Éxodo 4

EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Pero Moisés respondió: «Y si se niegan a creerme, y en lugar de hacerme caso, me dicen: «No es cierto que el Señor se te ha aparecido»?».	1 Moses replied as fol ows, 'But suppose they wil not believe me or listen to my words, and say to me,"Yahweh has not appeared to you"?'
2 Entonces el Señor le preguntó: «¿Qué tienes en la mano?». «Un bastón», respondió Moisés.	2 Yahweh then said, 'What is that in your hand?' 'A staff,' he said.
3 «Arrójalo al suelo», le ordenó el Señor. Y cuando lo arrojó el suelo, el bastón se convirtió en una serpiente. Moisés retrocedió atemorizado,	3 'Throw it on the ground,' said Yahweh. Moses threw it on the ground; the staff turned into a snake andMoses recoiled from it.
4 pero el Señor le volvió a decir: «Extiende tu mano y agárrala por la cola». Así lo hizo, y cuando la tuvo en su mano, se transformó nuevamente en un bastón.	4 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Reach out your hand and catch it by the tail.' He reached out his hand,caught it, and in his hand it turned back into a staff.
5 «Así deberás proceder, añadió el Señor, para que crean que el Señor, el Dios de tus padres, el Dios de Abraham, el Dios de Isaac y el Dios de Jacob, se te ha aparecido».	5 'Thus they may believe that Yahweh, the God of their ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaacand the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.'
6 Después el Señor siguió diciéndole: «Mete tu mano en el pecho». El puso su mano en el pecho; y al sacarla, estaba cubierta de lepra, blanca como la nieve.	6 Next, Yahweh said to him, 'Put your hand inside your tunic.' He put his hand inside his tunic, then drewit out again: and his hand was diseased, white as snow.
7 En seguida el Señor le ordenó: «Vuelve a poner tu mano en el pecho». Así lo hizo Moisés; y cuando la retiró, ya había recuperado nuevamente su color natural.	7 Yahweh then said, 'Put your hand back inside your tunic.' He put his hand back inside his tunic andwhen he drew it out, there it was restored, just like the rest of his flesh.
8 Entonces el Señor le dijo: «Si se niegan a creerte y no se convencen ante la evidencia del primer prodigio, el segundo los convencerá.	8 'Even so: should they not believe you nor be convinced by the first sign, the second sign wil convincethem;
9 Y si a pesar de estos dos prodigios permanecen incrédulos y no te escuchan, saca del Nilo un poco de agua y derrámala en la tierra; y al caer en la tierra, el agua que saques del Nilo se convertirá en sangre».	9 but should they not be convinced by either of these two signs and refuse to listen to what you say, youare to take some water from the River and pour it on the ground, and the water you have taken from the Riverwil turn to blood on the dry land.'
10 Moisés dijo al Señor: «Perdóname, Señor, pero yo nunca he sido una persona elocuente: ni antes, ni a partir del momento en que tú me hablaste. Yo soy torpe para hablar y me expreso con dificultad».	10 Moses said to Yahweh, 'Please, my Lord, I have never been eloquent, even since you have spoken toyour servant, for I am slow and hesitant of speech.'
11 El Señor le respondió: «¿Quién dio al hombre una boca? ¿Y	11 'Who gave a person a mouth?' Yahweh said to him. 'Who makes a person dumb or deaf, gives sight ormakes blind? Is it not I, Yahweh?
12 Ahora ve: yo te asistiré siempre que hables y te indicaré lo que debes decir».	12 Now go, I shall help you speak and instruct you what to say.'
13 Pero Moisés insistió: «Perdóname, Señor, encomienda a otro esta misión».	13 'Please, my Lord,' Moses replied, 'send anyone you decide to send!'
14 El Señor se enojó con Moisés y exclamó: «¿Acaso no tienes a tu hermano Aarón, el levita? Yo sé que él tiene facilidad de palabra. Ahora justamente viene a tu encuentro, y al verte se llenará de alegría.	14 At this, Yahweh's anger kindled against Moses, and he said to him, 'There is your brother Aaron theLevite, is there not? I know that he is a good speaker. Here he comes to meet you. When he sees you, his heartwil be full of joy.
15 Tú le hablarás y harás que sea tu portavoz. Yo los asistiré siempre que ustedes hablen, y les indicaré lo que deben hacer.	15 You will speak to him and tel him what message to give. I shal help you speak, and him too, andinstruct you what to do.
16 El hablará al pueblo en tu nombre; será tu portavoz y tú serás un Dios para él.	16 He will speak to the people in your place; he wil be your mouthpiece, and you wil be as the godinspiring him.
17 Lleva también en tu mano este bastón, porque con él realizarás los prodigios».	17 And take this staff in your hand; with this you will perform the signs.'
18 Luego Moisés se alejó de allí y al regresar a la casa de Jetró, su suegro, le dijo: «Permíteme volver a Egipto, donde están mis hermanos. Quiero ver si viven todavía». Jetró le respondió: «Puedes ir en paz».	18 Moses went back to his father-in-law Jethro and said to him, 'Give me leave to return to my kinsmen inEgypt and see if they are stil alive.' And Jethro said to Moses, 'Go in peace.'
19 El Señor dijo a Moisés en Madián: «Regresa a Egipto, porque ya han muerto todos los que querían matarte».	19 Yahweh said to Moses in Midian, 'Go, return to Egypt, for all those who wanted to kil you are dead.'
20 Moisés tomó a su mujer y a sus hijos, los hizo montar en un asno, y emprendió el camino de regreso a Egipto. En su mano llevaba el bastón de Dios.	20 So Moses took his wife and his son and, putting them on a donkey, started back for Egypt; and Mosestook the staff of God in his hand.
21 El Señor le dijo: «Mientras regresas a Egipto, considera todos los prodigios que yo te di el poder de realizar: tú los harás delante del Faraón. Pero yo voy a endurecer el corazón del Faraón, y él no dejará salir al pueblo.	21 Yahweh said to Moses, 'Think of the wonders I have given you power to perform, once you are back inEgypt! You are to perform them before Pharaoh, but I myself shal make him obstinate, and he wil not let thepeople go.
22 Entonces tú le dirás: Así habla el Señor: «Israel es mi hijo primogénito.	22 You will then say to Pharaoh, "This is what Yahweh says: Israel is my first-born son.
23 Yo te he dicho que dejes partir a mi pueblo, para que me rinda culto. Pero ya que te niegas a hacerlo, castigaré con la muerte a tu hijo primogénito».	23 I told you: Let my son go and worship me; but since you refuse to let him go, well then! I shall put yourfirst-born son to death." '
24 Cuando hizo un alto en el camino para pasar la noche, el Señor lo atacó e intentó matarlo.	24 On the journey, when he had halted for the night, Yahweh encountered him and tried to kil him.
25 Pero Sipora tomó un cuchillo de piedra, cortó el prepucio de su hijo, y con él tocó los pies de Moisés diciendo: «Tú eres para mí un esposo de sangre».	25 Then Zipporah, taking up a flint, cut off her son's foreskin and with it touched his feet and said, 'Youare my blood-bridegroom!'
26 Y el Señor se apartó de él. Ella había dicho: «esposo de sangre», a causa de la circuncisión.	26 So he let him go. She said, 'Blood-bridegroom' then, with reference to the circumcision.
27 Mientras tanto, el Señor había dicho a Aarón: «Ve al desierto para encontrarte con Moisés». Aarón partió, y cuando lo encontró en la montaña de Dios, lo besó.	27 Yahweh said to Aaron, 'Go into the desert to meet Moses.' So he went, and met him at the mountainof God and kissed him.
28 Moisés lo informó acerca de la misión que el Señor le había confiado, y de todos los prodigios que le había mandado realizar.	28 Moses then told Aaron al that Yahweh had said when sending him and al the signs he had orderedhim to perform.
29 Después fueron los dos juntos y reunieron a todos los ancianos de los israelitas.	29 Moses and Aaron then went and gathered al the elders of the Israelites together,
30 Aarón les expuso las palabras que el Señor había dicho a Moisés, y este realizó los prodigios a la vista del pueblo.	30 and Aaron repeated everything that Yahweh had said to Moses, and in the sight of the peopleperformed the signs.
31 El pueblo creyó; y cuando oyeron que el Señor había visitado a los israelitas y había visto su opresión, se postraron en señal de adoración.	31 The people were convinced, and they rejoiced that Yahweh had visited the Israelites and seen theirmisery, and they bowed to the ground in worship.
