EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Así fueron terminados el cielo y la tierra,, y todos los seres que hay en ellos.	1 Thus heaven and earth were completed with al their array.
2 El séptimo día, Dios concluyó la obra que había hecho, y cesó de hacer la obra que había emprendido.	2 On the seventh day God had completed the work he had been doing. He rested on the seventh dayafter al the work he had been doing.
3 Dios bendijo el séptimo día y lo consagró, porque en él cesó de hacer la obra que había creado.	3 God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on that day he rested after al his work ofcreating.
4 Este fue el origen del cielo y de la tierra cuando fueron creados.	4 Such was the story of heaven and earth as they were created. At the time when Yahweh God madeearth and heaven
5 aún no había ningún arbusto del campo sobre la tierra ni había brotado ninguna hierba, porque el Señor Dios no había hecho llover sobre la tierra. Tampoco había ningún hombre para cultivar el suelo,	5 there was as yet no wild bush on the earth nor had any wild plant yet sprung up, for Yahweh God hadnot sent rain on the earth, nor was there any man to til the soil.
6 pero un manantial surgía de la tierra y regaba toda la superficie del suelo.	6 Instead, water flowed out of the ground and watered al the surface of the soil.
7 Entonces el Señor Dios modeló al hombre con arcilla del suelo y sopló en su nariz un aliento de vida. Así el hombre se convirtió en un ser viviente.	7 Yahweh God shaped man from the soil of the ground and blew the breath of life into his nostrils, andman became a living being.
8 El Señor Dios plantó un jardín en Edén, al oriente, y puso allí al hombre que había formado.	8 Yahweh God planted a garden in Eden, which is in the east, and there he put the man he hadfashioned.
9 Y el Señor Dios hizo brotar del suelo toda clase de árboles, que eran atrayentes para la vista y apetitosos para comer; hizo brotar el árbol del conocimiento del bien y del mal.	9 From the soil, Yahweh God caused to grow every kind of tree, enticing to look at and good to eat, withthe tree of life in the middle of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
10 De Edén nace un río que riega el jardín, y desde allí se divide en cuatro brazos.	10 A river flowed from Eden to water the garden, and from there it divided to make four streams.
11 El primero se llama Pisón: es el que recorre toda la región de Javilá, donde hay oro.	11 The first is named the Pishon, and this winds al through the land of Havilah where there is gold.
12 El oro de esa región es excelente, y en ella hay también bedelio y lapislázuli.	12 The gold of this country is pure; bdel ium and cornelian stone are found there.
13 El segundo río se llama Guijón: es el que recorre toda la tierra de Cus.	13 The second river is named the Gihon, and this winds all through the land of Cush.
14 El tercero se llama Tigris: es el que pasa al este de Asur. El cuarto es el Eufrates.	14 The third river is named the Tigris, and this flows to the east of Ashur. The fourth river is theEuphrates.
15 El Señor Dios tomó al hombre y lo puso en el jardín de Edén, para que lo cultivara y lo cuidara.	15 Yahweh God took the man and settled him in the garden of Eden to cultivate and take care of it.
16 Y le dio esta orden: «Puedes comer de todos los árboles que hay en el jardín,	16 Then Yahweh God gave the man this command, 'You are free to eat of al the trees in the garden.
17 exceptuando únicamente el árbol del conocimiento del bien y del mal. De él no deberás comer, porque el día que lo hagas quedarás sujeto a la muerte».	17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you are not to eat; for, the day you eat of that, youare doomed to die.'
18 Después dijo el Señor Dios: «No conviene que el hombre esté solo. Voy a hacerle una ayuda adecuada».	18 Yahweh God said, 'It is not right that the man should be alone. I shal make him a helper.'
19 Entonces el Señor Dios modeló con arcilla del suelo a todos los animales de campo y a todos los pájaros del cielo, y los presentó al hombre para ver qué nombre les pondría. Porque cada ser viviente debía tener el nombre que le pusiera el hombre.	19 So from the soil Yahweh God fashioned al the wild animals and al the birds of heaven. These hebrought to the man to see what he would call them; each one was to bear the name the man would give it.
20 El hombre puso un nombre a todos los animales domésticos, a todas las aves del cielo y a todos los animales del campo; pero entre ellos no encontró la ayuda adecuada.	20 The man gave names to al the cattle, al the birds of heaven and all the wild animals. But no helpersuitable for the man was found for him.
21 Entonces el Señor Dios hizo caer sobre el hombre un profundo sueño, y cuando este se durmió, tomó una de sus costillas y cerró con carne el lugar vacío.	21 Then, Yahweh God made the man fal into a deep sleep. And, while he was asleep, he took one of hisribs and closed the flesh up again forthwith.
22 Luego, con la costilla que había sacado del hombre, el Señor Dios formó una mujer y se la presentó al hombre.	22 Yahweh God fashioned the rib he had taken from the man into a woman, and brought her to the man.
23 El hombre exclamó: «¡Esta sí que es hueso de mis huesos y carne de mi carne! Se llamará Mujer, porque ha sido sacada del hombre».	23 And the man said: This one at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh! She is to be cal edWoman, because she was taken from Man.
24 Por eso el hombre deja a su padre y a su madre y se une a su mujer, y los dos llegan a ser una sola carne.	24 This is why a man leaves his father and mother and becomes attached to his wife, and they becomeone flesh.
25 Los dos, el hombre y la mujer, estaban desnudos, pero no sentían vergüenza.	25 Now, both of them were naked, the man and his wife, but they felt no shame before each other.
