BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 ¡Llama, pues! ¿Habrá quien te responda? ¿a cuál de los santos vas a dirigirte?	1 Make your appeal then. Wil you find an answer? To which of the holy ones wil you turn?
2 En verdad el enojo mata al insensato, la pasión hace morir al necio.	2 Resentment kil s the senseless, and anger brings death to the fool.
3 Yo mismo he visto al insensato echar raíces, y sin tardar he maldecido su morada:	3 I have seen the senseless taking root, when a curse fel suddenly on his house.
4 ¡Estén sus hijos lejos de toda salvación, sin defensor hollados en la Puerta!	4 His children are deprived of prop and stay, ruined at the gate, and no one to defend them;
5 Su cosecha la devora un hambriento, pues Dios se la quita de los dientes, y los sedientos absorben su fortuna.	5 their harvest goes to feed the hungry, God snatches it from their mouths, and covetous people thirst fortheir possessions.
6 No, no brota la iniquidad el polvo, ni germina del suelo la aflicción.	6 No, misery does not grow out of the soil, nor sorrow spring from the ground.
7 Es el hombre quien la aflicción engendra, como levantan el vuelo los hijos del relámpago.	7 It is people who breed trouble for themselves as surely as eagles fly to the height.
8 Yo por mí a Dios recurriría, expondría a Dios mi causa.	8 If I were you, I should appeal to God and lay my case before him.
9 El es autor de obras grandiosas e insondables, de maravillas sin número.	9 His works are great, past al reckoning, marvels beyond al counting.
10 El derrama la lluvia sobre la haz de la tierra, y envía las aguas a los campos.	10 He sends down rain to the earth, pours down water on the fields.
11 Para poner en alto a los postrados, y que los míseros a la salud se eleven,	11 If his wil is to raise up the downcast, or exalt the afflicted to the heights of prosperity,
12 las tramas de los astutos desbarata, y sus manos no logran sus intrigas.	12 he frustrates the plans of the artful so that they cannot succeed in their intrigues.
13 Prende a los sabios en su astucia, el consejo de los sagaces se hace ciego.	13 He traps the crafty in the snare of their own trickery, throws the plans of the cunning into disarray.
14 En pleno día tropiezan con tinieblas, a mediodía van a tientas cual si fuese de noche.	14 In daylight they come up against darkness, and grope their way as if noon were night.
15 El salva al arruinado de sus fauces y al indigente de las manos del violento.	15 He rescues the bankrupt from their jaws, and the needy from the grasp of the mighty.
16 Así el débil renace a la esperanza, y cierra su boca la injusticia.	16 Hope springs afresh for the weak, and wickedness must shut its mouth.
17 ¡Oh sí, feliz el hombre a quien corrige Dios! ¡No desprecies, pues, la lección de Sadday!	17 Blessed are those whom God corrects! Do not then scorn the lesson of Shaddai!
18 Pues él es el que hiere y el que venda la herida, el que llaga y luego cura con su mano;	18 For he who wounds is he who soothes the sore, and the hand that hurts is the hand that heals.
19 seis veces ha de librarte de la angustia, y a la séptima el mal no te alcanzará.	19 Six times he wil deliver you from sorrow, and the seventh time, evil wil not touch you.
20 Durante el hambre te salvará de la muerte, y en la guerra, del alcance de la espada.	20 In time of famine, he wil save you from death, and in wartime from the stroke of the sword.
21 Estarás a cubierto del punzón de la lengua, sin miedo a la devastación, cuando se acerque.	21 You will be safe from the lash of the tongue, unafraid at the approach of the despoiler.
22 Te reirás de la sequía y de la helada, y no temerás a las bestias de la tierra.	22 You will laugh at drought and frost, and have no fear of the beasts of the earth.
23 Pues con las piedras del campo harás alianza, la bestia salvaje vivirá en paz contigo.	23 You will have a pact with the stones of the field, and live in amity with wild beasts.
24 Sabrás que tu tienda está a cubierto, nada echarás en falta cuando revises tu morada.	24 You will know that your tent is secure, and your sheepfold unharmed when you inspect it.
25 Sabrás que tu descendencia es numerosa, tus vástagos, como la hierba de la tierra.	25 You will see your descendants multiply, your offspring grow like the grass in the fields.
26 Llegarás a la tumba vigoroso, como se hacinan las gavillas a su tiempo.	26 At a ripe age you wil go to the grave, like a wheatsheaf stacked in due season.
27 Todo esto es lo que hemos observado: y así es. A ti te toca escuchar y aprovecharte.	27 Al this we have observed and it is so! Heed it, you wil be the wiser for it!
