1 Conoció el hombre a Eva, su mujer, la cual concibió y dio a luz a Caín, y dijo: «He adquirido un varón con el favor de Yahveh.»	1 The man had relations with his wife Eve, and she conceived and bore Cain, saying, "I have produced a man with the help of the LORD."
2 Volvió a dar a luz, y tuvo a Abel su hermano. Fue Abel pastor de ovejas y Caín labrador.	2 Next she bore his brother Abel. Abel became a keeper of flocks, and Cain a tiller of the soil.
3 Pasó algún tiempo, y Caín hizo a Yahveh una oblación de los frutos del suelo.	3 In the course of time Cain brought an offering to the LORD from the fruit of the soil,
4 También Abel hizo una oblación de los primogénitos de su rebaño, y de la grasa de los mismos. Yahveh miró propicio a Abel y su oblación,	4 while Abel, for his part, brought one of the best firstlings of his flock. The LORD looked with favor on Abel and his offering,
5 mas no miró propicio a Caín y su oblación, por lo cual se irritó Caín en gran manera y se abatió su rostro.	5 but on Cain and his offering he did not. Cain greatly resented this and was crestfallen.
6 Yahveh dijo a Caín: «¿Por qué andas irritado, y por qué se ha abatido tu rostro?	6 So the LORD said to Cain: "Why are you so resentful and crestfallen?
7 ¿No es cierto que si obras bien podrás alzarlo? Mas, si no obras bien, a la puerta está el pecado acechando como fiera que te codicia, y a quien tienes que dominar.»	7 If you do well, you can hold up your head; but if not, sin is a demon lurking at the door: his urge is toward you, yet you can be his master."
8 Caín, dijo a su hermano Abel: «Vamos afuera.» Y cuando estaban en el campo, se lanzó Caín contra su hermano Abel y lo mató.	8 Cain said to his brother Abel, "Let us go out in the field." When they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.
9 Yahveh dijo a Caín: «¿Dónde está tu hermano Abel? Contestó: «No sé. ¿Soy yo acaso el guarda de mi hermano?»	9 Then the LORD asked Cain, "Where is your brother Abel?" He answered, "I do not know. Am I my brother's keeper?"
10 Replicó Yahveh: «¿Qué has hecho? Se oye la sangre de tu hermano clamar a mí desde el suelo.	10 The LORD then said: "What have you done! Listen: your brother's blood cries out to me from the soil!
11 Pues bien: maldito seas, lejos de este suelo que abrió su boca para recibir de tu mano la sangre de tu hermano.	11 Therefore you shall be banned from the soil that opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand.
12 Aunque labres el suelo, no te dará más su fruto. Vagabundo y errante serás en la tierra.»	12 If you till the soil, it shall no longer give you its produce. You shall become a restless wanderer on the earth."
13 Entonces dijo Caín a Yahveh: «Mi culpa es demasiado grande para soportarla.	13 Cain said to the LORD: "My punishment is too great to bear.
14 Es decir que hoy me echas de este suelo y he de esconderme de tu presencia, convertido en vagabundo errante por la tierra, y cualquiera que me encuentre me matará.»	14 Since you have now banished me from the soil, and I must avoid your presence and become a restless wanderer on the earth, anyone may kill me at sight."
15 Respondióle Yahveh: «Al contrario, quienquiera que matare a Caín, lo pagará siete veces.» Y Yahveh puso una señal a Caín para que nadie que le encontrase le atacara.	15 Not so!" the LORD said to him. "If anyone kills Cain, Cain shall be avenged sevenfold." So the LORD put a mark on Cain, lest anyone should kill him at sight.
16 Caín salió de la presencia de Yahveh, y se estableció en el país de Nod, al oriente de Edén.	16 Cain then left the LORD'S presence and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.
17 Conoció Caín a su mujer, la cual concibió y dio a luz a Henoc. Estaba construyendo una ciudad, y la llamó Henoc, como el nombre de su hijo.	17 Cain had relations with his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. Cain also became the founder of a city, which he named after his son Enoch.
18 A Henoc le nació Irad, e Irad engendró a Mejuyael, Mejuyael engendró a Metusael, y Metusael engendró a Lámek.	18 To Enoch was born Irad, and Irad became the father of Mehujael; Mehujael became the father of Methusael, and Methusael became the father of Lamech.
19 Lámek tomó dos mujeres: la primera llamada Adá, y la segunda Sillá.	19 Lamech took two wives; the name of the first was Adah, and the name of the second Zillah.
20 Adá dio a luz a Yabal, el cual vino a ser padre de los que habitan en tiendas y crían ganado.	20 Adah gave birth to Jabal, the ancestor of all who dwell in tents and keep cattle.
21 El nombre de su hermano era Yubal, padre de cuantos tocan la cítara y la flauta.	21 His brother's name was Jubal; he was the ancestor of all who play the lyre and the pipe.
22 Sillá por su parte engendró a Túbal Caín, padre de todos los forjadores de cobre y hierro. Hermano de Túbal Caín fue Naamá.	22 Zillah, on her part, gave birth to Tubalcain, the ancestor of all who forge instruments of bronze and iron. The sister of Tubalcain was Naamah.
23 Y dijo Lámek a sus mujeres: «Adá y Sillá, oíd mi voz; mujeres de Lámek, escuchad mi palabra: Yo maté a un hombre por una herida que me hizo y a un muchacho por un cardenal que recibí.	23 Lamech said to his wives: "Adah and Zillah, hear my voice; wives of Lamech, listen to my utterance: I have killed a man for wounding me, a boy for bruising me.
24 Caín será vengado siete veces, mas Lámek lo será 77.»	24 If Cain is avenged sevenfold, then Lamech seventy-sevenfold."
25 Adán conoció otra vez a su mujer, y ella dio a luz un hijo, al que puso por nombre Set, diciendo: «Dios me ha otorgado otro descendiente en lugar de Abel, porque le mató Caín.»	25 Adam again had relations with his wife, and she gave birth to a son whom she called Seth. "God has granted me more offspring in place of Abel," she said, "because Cain slew him."
26 También a Set le nació un hijo, al que puso por nombre Enós. Este fue el primero en invocar el nombre de Yahveh.	26 To Seth, in turn, a son was born, and he named him Enosh. At that time men began to invoke the LORD by name.
