1 Commencement de la Bonne Nouvelle de Jésus Christ, Fils de Dieu.	1 The beginning of the gospel about Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
2 Il est écrit à ce sujet dans le prophète Isaïe: Voici que j’envoie mon messager devant toi pour te préparer le chemin.	2 It is written in the prophet Isaiah: Look, I am going to send my messenger in front of you to prepare yourway before you.
3 Une voix crie dans le désert: Préparez le chemin du Seigneur, aplanissez le sol devant lui.	3 A voice of one that cries in the desert: Prepare a way for the Lord, make his paths straight.
4 C’est ainsi que Jean se mit à baptiser dans le désert; il prêchait un baptême lié à une conversion, en vue d’obtenir le pardon des péchés.	4 John the Baptist was in the desert, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.
5 Tout le pays de Judée et tout le peuple de Jérusalem venaient à lui et se faisaient baptiser par lui dans la rivière du Jourdain, en même temps qu’ils confessaient leurs péchés.	5 All Judaea and all the people of Jerusalem made their way to him, and as they were baptised by him inthe river Jordan they confessed their sins.
6 Jean avait un manteau en poils de chameau et portait un pagne de peau autour des reins. Il se nourrissait de sauterelles et de miel d’abeilles sauvages.	6 John wore a garment of camel-skin, and he lived on locusts and wild honey.
7 Il disait bien clairement: "Un plus fort que moi vient derrière moi et je ne suis pas digne de délier, en me baissant, les lacets de ses sandales.	7 In the course of his preaching he said, 'After me is coming someone who is more powerful than me, andI am not fit to kneel down and undo the strap of his sandals.
8 Je vous ai baptisés dans l’eau, mais lui vous baptisera dans l’Esprit Saint.”	8 I have baptised you with water, but he wil baptise you with the Holy Spirit.'
9 En ces jours-là Jésus arriva de Nazareth en Galilée, et il fut baptisé par Jean dans le Jourdain.	9 It was at this time that Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptised in the Jordan by John.
10 Aussitôt, comme il remontait de l’eau, il vit les Cieux entrouverts: l’Esprit descendait sur lui comme fait la colombe,	10 And at once, as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit, likea dove, descending on him.
11 et du ciel venaient ces paroles: "Tu es mon Fils, le Bien-Aimé, c’est en toi que je me complais.”	11 And a voice came from heaven, 'You are my Son, the Beloved; my favour rests on you.'
12 Aussitôt, l’Esprit le poussa au désert	12 And at once the Spirit drove him into the desert
13 et, pendant quarante jours, il y fut tenté par Satan. Il était avec les bêtes sauvages et les anges le servaient.	13 and he remained there for forty days, and was put to the test by Satan. He was with the wild animals,and the angels looked after him.
14 Après l’arrestation de Jean, Jésus s’en alla en Galilée. Il proclamait la bonne nouvelle de Dieu	14 After John had been arrested, Jesus went into Galilee. There he proclaimed the gospel from Godsaying,
15 en ces termes: "Les délais sont accomplis, le Règne de Dieu est là, convertissez-vous et croyez à la Bonne Nouvelle!”	15 'The time is fulfil ed, and the kingdom of God is close at hand. Repent, and believe the gospel.'
16 Comme Jésus passait le long de la mer de Galilée, il y avait là Simon et André, le frère de Simon. Il les vit qui jetaient leurs filets dans la mer, car ils étaient pêcheurs.	16 As he was walking along by the Lake of Galilee he saw Simon and Simon's brother Andrew casting anet in the lake -- for they were fishermen.
17 Jésus leur dit: "Venez, suivez-moi! Je ferai de vous des pêcheurs d’hommes.”	17 And Jesus said to them, 'Come after me and I will make you into fishers of people.'
18 Eux aussitôt laissèrent leurs filets et le suivirent.	18 And at once they left their nets and fol owed him.
19 Un peu plus loin Jésus voit Jacques, fils de Zébédée, et Jean son frère; ils sont eux aussi dans leur barque, et ils arrangent leurs filets.	19 Going on a little further, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John; they too were in theirboat, mending the nets.
20 Jésus les appelle; aussitôt ils laissent leur père Zébédée dans la barque avec les salariés, et ils commencent à le suivre.	20 At once he called them and, leaving their father Zebedee in the boat with the men he employed, theywent after him.
21 Voici qu’ils s’arrêtent à Capharnaüm. Dès ce moment Jésus commence à enseigner les jours de sabbat, lorsqu’il vient à la synagogue.	21 They went as far as Capernaum, and at once on the Sabbath he went into the synagogue and beganto teach.
22 Les gens étaient frappés de son enseignement, car il les enseignait avec autorité et non comme les maîtres de la Loi.	22 And his teaching made a deep impression on them because, unlike the scribes, he taught them withauthority.
23 Or il y avait là, dans leur synagogue, un homme habité par un esprit impur.	23 And at once in their synagogue there was a man with an unclean spirit, and he shouted,
24 Voici qu’il se met à crier: "Que nous veux-tu, Jésus de Nazareth? Es-tu venu pour nous perdre? Je sais qui tu es: le Saint de Dieu!”	24 'What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are:the Holy One of God.'
25 Jésus le menace et lui dit: "Tais-toi! Sors de cet homme!”	25 But Jesus rebuked it saying, 'Be quiet! Come out of him!'
26 L’esprit impur le secoue violemment, pousse un grand cri et sort de lui.	26 And the unclean spirit threw the man into convulsions and with a loud cry went out of him.
27 Tous sont stupéfaits et se disent l’un à l’autre: "Qu’est-ce que cela? C’est du nouveau, cette façon d’enseigner avec autorité. Il commande même aux esprits impurs et ils lui obéissent!”	27 The people were so astonished that they started asking one another what it al meant, saying, 'Here isa teaching that is new, and with authority behind it: he gives orders even to unclean spirits and they obey him.'
28 Très rapidement sa renommée se répandit tout autour, à travers toute la Galilée.	28 And his reputation at once spread everywhere, through all the surrounding Galilean countryside.
29 En sortant de la synagogue, il se rendit à la maison de Simon et André, avec Jacques et Jean.	29 And at once on leaving the synagogue, he went with James and John straight to the house of Simonand Andrew.
30 La belle-mère de Simon était au lit avec de la fièvre: tout de suite ils lui en parlent.	30 Now Simon's mother-in-law was in bed and feverish, and at once they told him about her.
31 Jésus s’approche et la soulève en la prenant par la main: la fièvre la quitte et elle commence à leur faire le service.	31 He went in to her, took her by the hand and helped her up. And the fever left her and she began toserve them.
32 Au soir, dès que le soleil fut couché, on commença de lui amener tous ceux qui souffraient de maladies ou de démons.	32 That evening, after sunset, they brought to him all who were sick and those who were possessed bydevils.
33 La ville entière se pressait devant sa porte.	33 The whole town came crowding round the door,
34 Jésus guérit de nombreux malades, atteints de diverses maladies, et chassa de nombreux démons. Mais il ne laissait pas parler les démons, car ils l’avaient reconnu.	34 and he cured many who were sick with diseases of one kind or another; he also drove out manydevils, but he would not allow them to speak, because they knew who he was.
35 Au petit matin, alors qu’il faisait encore nuit, Jésus se leva, sortit et s’en alla dans un lieu désert. Il y resta en prière.	35 In the morning, long before dawn, he got up and left the house and went off to a lonely place andprayed there.
36 Simon et ses compagnons se mettent à sa recherche et,	36 Simon and his companions set out in search of him,
37 quand ils le trouvent, ils lui disent: "Tout le monde te cherche.”	37 and when they found him they said, 'Everybody is looking for you.'
38 Il leur dit alors: "Sortons d’ici, allons aux villages voisins pour que j’y prêche aussi; c’est pour cela que je suis sorti.”	38 He answered, 'Let us go elsewhere, to the neighbouring country towns, so that I can proclaim themessage there too, because that is why I came.'
39 Il alla donc prêcher dans leurs synagogues par toute la Galilée; il chassait aussi les démons.	39 And he went all through Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out devils.
40 Un lépreux s’approche de lui avec des supplications et des génuflexions; il lui dit: "Si tu veux, tu peux me purifier.”	40 A man suffering from a virulent skin-disease came to him and pleaded on his knees saying, 'If you arewil ing, you can cleanse me.'
41 Jésus est pris de compassion; il étend la main et le touche en lui disant: "Je le veux, sois purifié!”	41 Feeling sorry for him, Jesus stretched out his hand, touched him and said to him, 'I am willing. Becleansed.'
42 Aussitôt la lèpre le quitte, il est pur.	42 And at once the skin-disease left him and he was cleansed.
43 Mais Jésus le sermonne et le met dehors	43 And at once Jesus sternly sent him away and said to him,
44 en lui disant: "Surtout, n’en parle à personne; va simplement te montrer au prêtre et présente l’offrande pour ta purification, comme Moïse l’a ordonné: tu feras ainsi ta déclaration.”	44 'Mind you tel no one anything, but go and show yourself to the priest, and make the offering for yourcleansing prescribed by Moses as evidence to them.'
45 L’homme n’était pas plus tôt sorti qu’il se mit à le crier partout et à répandre la nouvelle, si bien que Jésus ne pouvait plus se montrer dans une ville; il restait à l’écart dans des lieux déserts. Même ainsi on venait à lui de toutes parts.	45 The man went away, but then started freely proclaiming and tel ing the story everywhere, so thatJesus could no longer go openly into any town, but stayed outside in deserted places. Even so, people from alaround kept coming to him.
