1 Yahvé dit à Moïse: “Va trouver le Pharaon et dis-lui de la part de Yahvé, le Dieu des Hébreux: Laisse partir mon peuple pour qu’il me serve!	1 Then the Lord said to Moses: “Enter to Pharaoh, and say to him: ‘Thus says the Lord God of the Hebrews: Release my people, to sacrifice to me.
2 Si tu refuses de le renvoyer, si tu le retiens encore,	2 But if you still refuse, and you retain them,
3 Yahvé frappera tes troupeaux qui sont dans la campagne, les chevaux, les ânes, les chameaux, le gros et le petit bétail. Ce sera une peste terrible.	3 behold, my hand will be over your fields. And a very grievous pestilence will be upon the horses, and the donkeys, and the camels, and the oxen, and the sheep.
4 Mais Yahvé fera la différence entre le troupeau d’Israël et le troupeau d’Égypte. Pas une bête des Israélites ne crèvera.”	4 And the Lord will cause a miracle between the possessions of Israel and the possessions of the Egyptians, so that nothing at all will perish from those things which belong to the sons of Israel.”
5 Yahvé fixa la date, il dit: “Demain, Yahvé fera cela dans tout le pays.”	5 And the Lord appointed a time, saying: “Tomorrow, the Lord will accomplish this word in the land.”
6 Et dès le lendemain Yahvé fit ce qu’il avait dit: tous les troupeaux d’Égypte crevèrent, mais pas une bête ne creva dans les troupeaux des Israélites.	6 Therefore, the Lord accomplished this word the next day. And all the animals of the Egyptians died. Yet truly, of the animals of the sons of Israel, nothing at all perished.
7 Le Pharaon s’informa: pas une bête n’avait crevé dans les troupeaux des Israélites. Mais le Pharaon resta dans son entêtement et il ne laissa pas partir le peuple.	7 And Pharaoh sent to see; neither was there anything dead of those things that Israel possessed. And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he did not release the people.
8 Alors, Dieu dit à Moïse et à Aaron: “Remplissez vos deux mains de cendre fine. Moïse la lancera vers le ciel sous les yeux du Pharaon,	8 And the Lord said to Moses and to Aaron: “Take handfuls of ashes from the oven, and let Moses sprinkle it into the air, in the sight of Pharaoh.
9 et dans toute l’Égypte ce sera de la poudre qui se déposera sur les hommes et sur les bêtes: dans toute l’Égypte elle leur donnera des ulcères et des boutons.”	9 And let there be dust upon all the land of Egypt. For there will be sores and swelling pustules on men and on beasts, throughout the entire land of Egypt.”
10 Ils prirent donc de la cendre fine et se présentèrent devant le Pharaon. Moïse la lança vers le ciel et elle se changea en ulcères et en boutons sur les hommes et sur les bêtes.	10 And they took ashes from the oven, and they stood in the sight of Pharaoh, and Moses sprinkled it in the air. And there came sores with swelling pustules on men and on beasts.
11 Cette fois les magiciens ne purent rester aux côtés de Moïse à cause de ce fléau, car ils avaient leurs ulcères comme tous les Égyptiens.	11 Neither could the sorcerers stand in the sight of Moses, because of the sores that were on them and on all the land of Egypt.
12 Mais Dieu endurcit le cœur du Pharaon, il ne voulut pas écouter: Yahvé l’avait bien dit à Moïse.	12 And the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he did not listen to them, just as the Lord said to Moses.
13 Yahvé dit encore à Moïse: “Lève-toi de bon matin et présente-toi devant le Pharaon. Tu lui diras de la part de Yahvé, le Dieu des Hébreux: Laisse aller mon peuple pour qu’il me serve!	13 And the Lord said to Moses: “Rise up in the morning, and stand in the sight of Pharaoh, and you will say to him: ‘Thus says the Lord God of the Hebrews: Release my people to sacrifice to me.
14 Cette fois j’envoie tous mes fléaux contre toi, tes serviteurs et ton peuple, et tu sauras ainsi qu’il n’y a personne comme moi sur toute la terre.	14 For at this turn, I will send all my plagues upon your heart, and upon your servants, and upon your people. So may you know that there is no one like me in all the earth.
15 “J’aurais pu dès le début montrer toute ma puissance et te frapper toi et ton peuple par la peste, et tu aurais disparu de la terre.	15 For now, extending my hand, I shall strike you and your people with pestilence, and you will perish from the earth.
16 Mais voici pourquoi je t’ai laissé en vie: je veux te faire voir ma puissance et que mon Nom soit connu sur toute la terre.	16 But it was for this reason that I appointed you, so that I may reveal my strength by you, and so that my name may be described throughout all the earth.
17 Tu résistes encore et tu ne laisses pas partir mon peuple?	17 Do you still retain my people, and are you still unwilling to release them?
18 Eh bien, demain à cette heure, je ferai tomber une très forte grêle comme il n’y en a pas eu de pareille depuis la fondation de l’Égypte jusqu’à ce jour.	18 So then, tomorrow, at this same hour, I will rain down exceedingly great hail, such as has not been in Egypt from the day that it was founded, even until this present time.
19 Ordonne donc de mettre à l’abri dès maintenant ton bétail et tout ce qui t’appartient dans les champs, car tous les hommes et toutes les bêtes qui seront dans les champs au lieu d’être à l’abri à la maison, seront frappés par la grêle et mourront.”	19 Therefore, send immediately and gather together your cattle, and all that you have in the field. For men and beasts, and all things that will be found outside, not gathered in from the fields, and on which the hail will fall, shall die.’ ”
20 Ceux des serviteurs du Pharaon qui craignaient Yahvé se réfugièrent dans les maisons avec leurs serviteurs et leurs troupeaux.	20 He who feared the word of the Lord among the servants of Pharaoh caused his servants and cattle to flee together into the houses.
21 Mais ceux qui se moquaient de la parole de Yahvé laissèrent leurs serviteurs et leurs troupeaux dans les champs.	21 But he who neglected the word of the Lord released his servants and cattle into the fields.
22 Yahvé dit alors à Moïse: “Étends ta main vers le ciel! Que la grêle tombe sur toute l’Égypte, sur les hommes, sur les bêtes et sur tout ce qui pousse dans les champs en terre d’Égypte.”	22 And the Lord said to Moses: “Extend your hand into the sky, so that there may be hail in the entire land of Egypt, on men, and on beasts, and on every plant of the field in the land of Egypt.”
23 Moïse étendit son bâton vers le ciel, et Yahvé fit éclater les tonnerres et pleuvoir la grêle en même temps que la foudre tombait sur la terre. Yahvé fit tomber la grêle sur tout le pays d’Égypte.	23 And Moses extended his staff into the sky, and the Lord sent thunder and hail, and also lightning dashing across the earth. And the Lord rained down hail upon the land of Egypt.
24 Il y eut de la grêle avec des éclairs de feu qui jaillissaient du milieu de la grêle. On n’avait rien vu de semblable dans tout le pays depuis la fondation de l’Égypte.	24 And the hail and intermingled fire drove on together. And it was of such magnitude as had never before been seen in the entire land of Egypt, from the time when that nation was formed.
25 Dans tout le pays d’Égypte, la grêle frappa tous ceux qui étaient dans les champs, les gens comme les bêtes. La grêle frappa aussi tout ce qui poussait dans les champs et brisa même les arbres des champs.	25 And the hail struck, throughout all the land of Egypt, everything that was in the fields, from man even to beast. And the hail struck down every plant of the field, and it broke every tree of the region.
26 Cependant il n’y eut pas de grêle dans le pays de Gossen, là où se trouvaient les Israélites.	26 Only in the land of Goshen, where the sons of Israel were, did the hail not fall.
27 Le Pharaon fit alors appeler Moïse et Aaron, il leur dit: “Cette fois, j’ai péché! C’est Yahvé qui est juste, moi et mon peuple nous sommes coupables!	27 And Pharaoh sent and called Moses and Aaron, saying to them: “I have sinned even until now. The Lord is just. I and my people are impious.
28 Priez Yahvé pour que s’arrêtent ces tonnerres incroyables et cette grêle, et je ne vous retiendrai plus ici, je vous laisserai partir.”	28 Pray to the Lord, so that the thundering of God and the hail may cease, so that I may release you, and so that you may by no means remain here any longer.”
29 Moïse répondit: “Aussitôt sorti de la ville, je tendrai les mains vers Yahvé: les tonnerres s’arrêteront, et il n’y aura plus de grêle. Ainsi tu sauras que la terre est à Yahvé.	29 Moses said: “When I have departed from the city, I will extend my hands to the Lord, and the thunders will cease, and the hail will not be, so that you may know that the earth belongs to the Lord.
30 Mais je sais bien que toi et tes serviteurs, vous ne craindrez encore pas Yahvé Dieu.”	30 But I know that both you and your servants do not yet fear the Lord God.”
31 Le lin et l’orge avaient été frappés, car l’orge était en épi, et le lin en fleur.	31 And so, the flax and the barley were damaged, because the barley was growing, and the flax was already developing grains.
32 Mais le blé et le seigle n’avaient pas été frappés, car ils sont tardifs.	32 But the wheat and the spelt were not damaged, because they were late.
33 Aussitôt sorti de chez le Pharaon et hors de la ville, Moïse tendit les mains vers Yahvé: les tonnerres et la grêle s’arrêtèrent, et la pluie cessa de tomber sur la terre.	33 And Moses, departing from Pharaoh out of the city, reached out his hands toward the Lord. And the thunders and hail ceased, neither did there drop any more rain upon the land.
34 Le Pharaon vit que la pluie, la grêle et les tonnerres s’étaient arrêtés. Alors il recommença à pécher et à s’entêter, lui et ses serviteurs.	34 Then Pharaoh, seeing that the rain, and the hail, and the thunders had ceased, added to his sin.
35 Le Pharaon s’entêta et refusa de laisser partir les Israélites: Yahvé l’avait bien dit par la bouche de Moïse.	35 And his heart was weighed down, along with that of his servants, and it was hardened exceedingly. Neither did he release the sons of Israel, just as the Lord had instructed by the hand of Moses.
