1 Israël partit donc avec tout ce qu’il possédait, et il arriva à Bersabée où il offrit des sacrifices au Dieu de son père Isaac.	1 Israel set out with all that was his. When he arrived at Beer-sheba, he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.
2 Durant la nuit, Dieu parla à Israël dans une vision: “Jacob! Jacob!” lui dit-il. Il répondit: “Me voici!”	2 There God, speaking to Israel in a vision by night, called, "Jacob! Jacob!" "Here I am," he answered.
3 Dieu lui dit: “Je suis le Dieu de ton père! Ne crains pas de descendre en Égypte, car je ferai de toi une grande nation.	3 Then he said: "I am God, the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for there I will make you a great nation.
4 Je descendrai avec toi en Égypte et je t’en ferai remonter. Et c’est Joseph qui te fermera les yeux.”	4 Not only will I go down to Egypt with you; I will also bring you back here, after Joseph has closed your eyes."
5 Jacob quitta donc Bersabée et les fils d’Israël transportèrent leur père Jacob avec leurs petits enfants et leurs femmes, sur les chariots que Pharaon avait envoyés pour les transporter.	5 So Jacob departed from Beer-sheba, and the sons of Israel put their father and their wives and children on the wagons that Pharaoh had sent for his transport.
6 Ils prirent leurs troupeaux et tout ce qu’ils avaient amassé au pays de Canaan, et c’est ainsi que Jacob et toute sa famille avec lui entrèrent en Égypte.	6 They took with them their livestock and the possessions they had acquired in the land of Canaan. Thus Jacob and all his descendants migrated to Egypt.
7 Il emmena toute sa descendance en Égypte: ses fils et ses filles avec tous leurs enfants.	7 His sons and his grandsons, his daughters and his granddaughters--all his descendants--he took with him to Egypt.
8 Voici les noms des fils d’Israël qui entrèrent en Égypte, c’est-à-dire Jacob et sa descendance: Premier-né de Jacob: Ruben.	8 These are the names of the Israelites, Jacob and his descendants, who migrated to Egypt. Reuben, Jacob's first-born,
9 Fils de Ruben: Hénok, Pallu, Hesron, Karmi.	9 and the sons of Reuben: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.
10 Fils de Siméon: Yémouel, Yamin, Ohad, Yakin, Sokar, et Chaoul, le fils de la Cananéenne.	10 The sons of Simeon: Nemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul, son of a Canaanite woman.
11 Fils de Lévi: Guerchon, Kahat, Mérari.	11 The sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
12 Fils de Juda: Er, Onan, Chéla, Pérès et Zérah. Er et Onan moururent au pays de Canaan. Quant aux fils de Pérès, ce sont: Hesron et Hamoul.	12 The sons of Judah: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah--but Er and Onan had died in the land of Canaan; and the sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.
13 Fils d’Issacar: Tola, Pouvva, Yachoub et Chimron.	13 The sons of Issachar: Tola, Puah, Jashub, and Shimron.
14 Fils de Zabulon: Séred, Élon, Yakhléel.	14 The sons of Zebulun: Sered, Elon, and Jahleel.
15 Voilà les fils que Léa donna à Jacob, à Paddân-Aram, ainsi que sa fille Dinah. Ses fils et ses filles étaient 33 personnes au total.	15 These were the sons whom Leah bore to Jacob in Paddan-aram, along with his daughter Dinah--thirty-three persons in all, male and female.
16 Fils de Gad: Sifion, Haggi, Chouni, Esbon, Éri, Arodi, Aréli.	16 The sons of Gad: Zephon, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arod, and Areli.
17 Fils d’Asher: Yimna, Yichva, Yichvi, Béria et Sérah, leur sœur. Fils de Béria: Héber et Malkiel.	17 The sons of Asher: Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi, and Beriah, with their sister Serah; and the sons of Beriah: Heber and Malchiel.
18 Ce sont là les fils que Zilpa avait donnés à Jacob. Au total: 16 personnes. Zilpa était l’esclave que Laban avait donnée à sa fille Léa.	18 These were the descendants of Zilpah, whom Laban had given to his daughter Leah; these she bore to Jacob--sixteen persons in all.
19 Fils de Rachel, femme de Jacob: Joseph et Benjamin.	19 The sons of Jacob's wife Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.
20 En Égypte, Asnat, fille de Poti-Phéra, prêtre d’On, donna à Joseph deux fils: Manassé et Éphraïm.	20 In the land of Egypt Joseph became the father of Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath, daughter of Potiphera, priest of Heliopolis, bore to him.
21 Fils de Benjamin: Béla, Béker, Achbel, Guéra, Naaman, Ékhi, Roch, Moupim, Houpim et Ard.	21 The sons of Benjamin: Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ahiram, Shupham, Hupham, and Ard.
22 Voilà les fils que Rachel donna à Jacob. Au total: 14 personnes.	22 These were the sons whom Rachel bore to Jacob--fourteen persons in all.
23 Fils de Dan: Houchim.	23 The sons of Dan: Hushim.
24 Fils de Nephtali: Yakhséel, Gouni, Yéser et Chillem.	24 The sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem.
25 Ce sont là les fils que Bila avait donnés à Jacob. Au total: 7 personnes. Bila était la servante que Laban avait donnée à sa fille Rachel.	25 These were the sons of Bilhah, whom Laban had given to his daughter Rachel; these she bore to Jacob--seven persons in all.
26 Le total des personnes qui entrèrent en Égypte avec Jacob, tous de sa descendance, sans compter les femmes des fils de Jacob, était de 66. C’est le total des personnes.	26 Jacob's people who migrated to Egypt--his direct descendants, not counting the wives of Jacob's sons--numbered sixty-six persons in all.
27 Quant aux fils que Joseph eut en Égypte, ils étaient deux; le total des personnes de la maison de Jacob qui s’installèrent en Égypte était donc de 70.	27 Together with Joseph's sons who were born to him in Egypt--two persons--all the people comprising Jacob's family who had come to Egypt amounted to seventy persons in all.
28 Avant d’entrer dans le pays de Gossen, Jacob envoya devant lui Juda à la rencontre de Joseph pour le prévenir de son arrivée au pays de Gossen.	28 Israel had sent Judah ahead to Joseph, so that he might meet him in Goshen. On his arrival in the region of Goshen,
29 Joseph attela son char et partit à la rencontre d’Israël, son père, en Gossen. Il se présenta devant lui, se jeta à son cou et pleura longuement dans ses bras.	29 Joseph hitched the horses to his chariot and rode to meet his father Israel in Goshen. As soon as he saw him, he flung himself on his neck and wept a long time in his arms.
30 Israël dit à Joseph: Maintenant je peux mourir, car j’ai revu ton visage et je sais que tu es en vie.”	30 And Israel said to Joseph, "At last I can die, now that I have seen for myself that Joseph is still alive."
31 Joseph dit à ses frères et à la famille de son père: “Je m’en vais avertir le Pharaon. Je lui dirai: Mes frères et la famille de mon père qui étaient en Canaan sont venus me rejoindre.	31 Joseph then said to his brothers and his father's household: "I will go and inform Pharaoh, telling him: 'My brothers and my father's household, whose home is in the land of Canaan, have come to me.
32 Ces hommes sont des bergers de petit bétail, ils sont éleveurs de troupeaux. Ils ont amené leur petit bétail et leur gros bétail, ainsi que tout ce qu’ils possédaient.	32 The men are shepherds, having long been keepers of livestock; and they have brought with them their flocks and herds, as well as everything else they own.'
33 Lorsque le Pharaon vous appellera et vous dira: Que faisiez-vous?	33 So when Pharaoh summons you and asks what your occupation is,
34 vous répondrez: Tes serviteurs ont été éleveurs de bêtes depuis leur jeunesse jusqu’à ce jour. C’est ce que nous faisons, comme le faisaient nos pères.	34 you must answer, 'We your servants, like our ancestors, have been keepers of livestock from the beginning until now,' in order that you may stay in the region of Goshen, since all shepherds are abhorrent to the Egyptians."
35 Ainsi vous pourrez rester dans le pays de Gossen, car les bergers sont méprisés dans toute l’Égypte.”
