1 Allora essendo così campati, conoscemmo che quella isola si chiamava Melita; e quelli barbari (dell' isola) benignamente ci ricevettero.	1 And when they were escaped, then they knew that the island was called Melita.
2 E accesero il fuoco, per la grande freddura ch' era, e per che pioveva, e diedenci mangiare.	2 And the barbarous people shewed us no little kindness: for they kindled a fire, and received us every one, because of the present rain, and because of the cold.
3 E raunando Paulo alquanti sermenti per mettere nel fuoco, una vipera (cioè uno serpente ch' era fra essi) sentendo il caldo del fuoco, uscinne e gittossi alla mano di Paulo.	3 And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand.
4 La quale cosa vedendo quelli barbari, cioè quella biscia pendere della mano di Paulo, (credendo pure ch' elli ne morisse, incontanente) dissero insieme veramente questo era uomo reo e omicidiale, però ch' essendo liberato dal pericolo del mare, la sentenza di Dio non vuole che (campi e) viva.	4 And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live.
5 Allora Paulo, scorlando la mano, gittò (e scosse) quella vipera nel fuoco, e niuno male sentì.	5 And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm.
6 E quelli barbari, aspettando ch' elli subitamente enfiasse e morisse, poi che pur viddero che Paulo niuno male ne sentiva, maravigliandosi molto, (ebberlo in tanta reverenza, che) dicevano (e credevano) ch' elli fusse uno Dio.	6 Howbeit they looked when he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.
7 E in quello luogo erano (certi prati e grandi) possessioni del signore dell' isola, che avea nome Publio; il quale ricevendoci tre dì con seco, ci usò molta benignità.	7 In the same quarters were possessions of the chief man of the island, whose name was Publius; who received us, and lodged us three days courteously.
8 Or avvenne che (in quelli dì) il padre del detto Publio infermò gravemente di febbre e dissenteria (cioè flusso). Al quale entrando Paulo (e trovandolo in molti tormenti) posesi in orazione per lui; e poi (levandosi di orazione) li pose le mani in capo, e incontanente quelli fu sanato (perfettamente).	8 And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him.
9 La quale cosa essendo saputa (e sparta) per tutta quella isola, chiunque aveva niuno infermo, sì gliel menavano, e Paulo il sanava.	9 So when this was done, others also, which had diseases in the island, came, and were healed:
10 Per la quale cosa ci fecero molto onore; e (poi volendoci noi partire) ci fornirono la nave di ogni cosa necessaria.	10 Who also honoured us with many honours; and when we departed, they laded us with such things as were necessary.
11 E stati che furono tre mesi, entrammo in una nave Alessandrina, che v' era stata quello verno.	11 And after three months we departed in a ship of Alexandria, which had wintered in the isle, whose sign was Castor and Pollux.
12 E (quindi ci partimmo, e) venendo in Siracusa (di Sicilia), stemmovi III giorni.	12 And landing at Syracuse, we tarried there three days.
13 E partendoci quindi, venimmo poi alla città di Reggio (nella detta isola); e poi avendo vento per noi, dopo uno di venimmo a(l' isola di) Pozzuolo.	13 And from thence we fetched a compass, and came to Rhegium: and after one day the south wind blew, and we came the next day to Puteoli:
14 Nel quale luogo, trovandosi certi cristiani, stemmovi per loro preghi VII giorni; e (partendoci) quindi pervenimmo a Roma.	14 Where we found brethren, and were desired to tarry with them seven days: and so we went toward Rome.
15 E udendo li cristiani ( ch' erano in Roma) la nostra venuta, vennonci incontro insino... al luogo che si chiama TRE TAVERNE; li quali Paulo vedendo, ringraziò (molto) Dio, e prese fidanza.	15 And from thence, when the brethren heard of us, they came to meet us as far as Appiiforum, and The three taverns: whom when Paul saw, he thanked God, and took courage.
16 E pervenuti che fummo a Roma, l'imperatore concedette a Paulo di rimanere (e stare con noi e con gli altri cristiani) con una sola guardia.	16 And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: but Paul was suffered to dwell by himself with a soldier that kept him.
17 E dopo il terzo giorno Paulo fece congregare li principi de' iudei, e disse loro: fratelli miei, (voglio sappiate che senza mia colpa) non facendo. io contra al popolo (de' iudei) nè contra a' costumi (nè statuti) de' nostri padri, fui (da' iudei) preso e messo in mano de' (signori) romani.	17 And it came to pass, that after three days Paul called the chief of the Jews together: and when they were come together, he said unto them, Men and brethren, though I have committed nothing against the people, or customs of our fathers, yet was I delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.
18 Li quali esaminandomi (assai), e niuna colpa trovando, volevanmi lasciare liberamente.	18 Who, when they had examined me, would have let me go, because there was no cause of death in me.
19 Ma contraddicendo a ciò li iudei, fui costretto ad appellare a Cesare, (e questo feci) non per accusare li iudei, (li quali sono e reputo miei frategli, ma per campare dal pericolo della morte).	19 But when the Jews spake against it, I was constrained to appeal unto Caesar; not that I had ought to accuse my nation of.
20 Onde, per che non m' abbiate a sospetto, [vi] ho voluto vedere e parlare; e sappiate che non per altra (colpa o) cagione, se non per che prèdico la resurrezione, sono così (preso e) incatenato.	20 For this cause therefore have I called for you, to see you, and to speak with you: because that for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.
21 Allora li iudei (risposero e) dissero: di questa materia nulla ne sappiamo, nè per lettera che ci sia scritta, nè per altro messo che di là sia venuto, sì che contra a te nulla abbiamo.	21 And they said unto him, We neither received letters out of Judaea concerning thee, neither any of the brethren that came shewed or spake any harm of thee.
22 Ma preghiamoti che tu stesso ci dichi la tua opinione; chè quanto è di questa setta (de' Nazareni), noi (pure udiamo e) sappiamo che da ogni lato (e da ogni gente) è impugnata e perseguitata.	22 But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, we know that every where it is spoken against.
23 E assegnandoli uno certo dì (a rispondere, partironsi, e poi) tornando a lui il dì determinato, Paulo (arditamente) predicava loro la fede di Cristo e il regno di Dio, (ma provando e) mostrando loro la verità della fede per gli detti di Moisè e degli altri profeti, della mattina insino a vespero.	23 And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.
24 Alcuni credevano quello diceva Paulo; alcuni non credevano.	24 And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.
25 Onde così discordandosi insieme, Paulo (ac-. ceso di grande zelo, propose ed) espose (per sè e contra) a loro quella profezia, per la quale dice Dio per Isaia:	25 And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers,
26 Va a questo popolo, e di' loro: con li vostri occhi vederete, e non conoscerete; e con le vostre orecchie udirete, e non intenderete.	26 Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive:
27 Perciò che il cuore di questo popolo è ingrassato (e indurato); e studiosamente chiudono gli occhi per non vedere, e le orecchie per non udire, e il cuore per non intendere, a ciò che non si convertano, e io non gli sani (della sua infirmità).	27 For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
28 E però sappiate, che (poi che voi giudei non ricevete) questo salutare (e questa salute) ci manda [Iddio] ad annuuziarlo (e a proferirlo) alle genti pagane, ed elle il riceveranno.	28 Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.
29 La quale parola li giudei non intendendo, (turbati e scandalizzati) si partirono, molto fra sè stessi (cercando e) disputando di questo fatto.	29 And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves.
30 E Paulo per spazio di due anni fu lasciato stare in certo albergo (senza molestia); e riceveva (graziosamente) chiunque a lui veniva.	30 And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him,
31 E predicava loro del regno di Dio, e ammaestravagli della fede di Cristo arditamente, e niuno a ciò li contrastava.	31 Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.
