BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 E poi che ebbero cenato, menarono dentro il giovane a lei.	1 When they had finished eating and drinking and it seemed time to go to bed, the young man was takenfrom the dining room to the bedroom.
2 Allora si ricordò Tobia del sermone dell' angiolo, e trasse dalla scarsella sua una parte del fegato del pesce, e puosela sopra de' carboni accesi.	2 Tobias remembered Raphael's advice; he went to his bag, took the fish's heart and liver out of it and putsome on the burning incense.
3 Allora Rafael angelo prese il demonio, e legollo nel deserto dello Egitto di sopra.	3 The reek of the fish distressed the demon, who fled through the air to Egypt. Raphael pursued himthere, shackled him and strangled him forthwith.
4 Allora Tobia confortò la polzella, e disse a lei: leva su, Sara, e preghiamo Iddio oggi e domani e posdomani; imperciò che in queste tre notti ci aggiugneremo [a Diò]; e passata la terza notte, saremo nel nostro matrimonio.	4 The parents meanwhile had gone out and shut the door behind them. 7 E disse Tobia: o Signore Iddio de' padri nostri, te benedicano i cieli, le terre e il mare e le fonti e i fiumi, e tutte le creature che in loro sono.	7 And so I take my sister not for any lustful motive, but I do it in singleness of heart. Be kind enough tohave pity on her and on me and bring us to old age together.
8 Tu facesti Adamo del limo della terra, e destigli per aiuto Eva.	8 And together they said, 'Amen, Amen,'

13 E quando ebbero apparecchiata la sepoltura, Raguel tornò alla moglie, e disse:	13 They sent the maid, lit the lamp, opened the door and the maid went in. She found the two fast asleeptogether;
14 manda una delle tue serve, e pongagli mente s' egli è morto, acciò il sotterri innanzi che si faccia dì.	14 she came out again and whispered, 'He is not dead; al is wel .'
15 Onde ella vi mandoe una delle sue ancille; la quale, poi che fue entrata nella camera, gli trovoe amendue sani e salvi, che insieme si dormivano.	15 Then Raguel blessed the God of heaven with these words: You are blessed, my God, with everyblessing that is pure; may you be blessed for evermore!
16 La quale tornando ridisse buone novelle; onde Raguel benedisse Iddio, e la sua moglie similmente,	16 You are blessed for having made me glad. What I feared has not happened, instead you have shownus your boundless mercy.
17 dicendo; noi benediciamo te, o Signore Iddio d'Israel, però che non ci è avvenuto come noi pensavamo.	17 You are blessed for taking pity on this only son, this only daughter. Grant them, Master, your mercyand your protection; let them live out their lives in happiness and in mercy.
18 Imperciò che tu hai fatto con noi misericordia, e hai iscacciato da noi il nimico che ci perseguitava;	18 And he made his servants fil the grave in before dawn broke.
19 e hai avuto pietà di due unigeniti. Or fa, Signore, che loro più largamente ti benedicano, e offerano sacrificio di laude per la loro sanitade, acciò che conosca la moltitudine delle genti, che tu sei solo Iddio in tutta la terra.	19 He told his wife to make an ovenful of bread; he went to his flock, brought back two oxen and foursheep and gave orders for them to be cooked; and preparations began.
20 E incontanente comandò Raguel a' suoi servi, che riempiessono la fossa, che aveano fatta, innanzi che si schiarasse il dì.	20 He called Tobias and said, 'I wil not hear of your leaving here for a fortnight. You are to stay whereyou are, eating and drinking, with me. You wil make my daughter happy again after al her troubles.
21 E alla sua donna disse, ch' ella facesse il grande convito, e apparecchiasse i cibi di ciò che bisogna a camminare.	21 After that, take away a half of al I have, and take her safe and sound back to your father. When mywife and I are dead you shall have the other half. Courage, my boy! I am your father, and Edna is your mother.We are your parents in future, as we are your sister's. Courage, my son!'
22 Onde ella fece uccidere due vacche grasse e quattro castroni, e apparecchiò le nozze a tutti i suoi vicini e amici.
23 E Raguel scongiurò Tobia, che istesse còn lui due settimane.
24 E di tutto ciò che possedea, Raguel diede la metade a Tobia; e fecegli donazione, che l'altra metade dopo la sua fine pervenisse alla signoria di Tobia.
