1 Ed era Ioas di sette anni quando cominciò a regnare; e XL anni regnò in Ierusalem; il nome della madre fu Sebia di Bersabee.	1 Joash was seven years old when he came to the throne and he reigned for forty years in Jerusalem.His mother's name was Zibiah of Beersheba.
2 E fece bene nel cospetto di Dio, tutto il tempo di Ioiada sacerdote.	2 Joash did what Yahweh regards as right throughout the lifetime of Jehoiada the priest.
3 E tolse Ioas due moglie, delle quali generò figliuoli e figliuole.	3 Jehoiada found him two wives and he fathered several sons and daughters.
4 Dopo le quali cose piacque a Ioas di rifare la casa di Dio.	4 Later, Joash made up his mind to repair the Temple of Yahweh.
5 E congregò sacerdoti e Leviti, e disse loro: andate a tutte le città di Giuda, e ricogliete là da tutto Israel, per riconciare il tempio, moneta; e ciò fate ogni anno, e fatel tosto. E i Leviti fecero questo negligentemente.	5 Calling the priests and the Levites together, he said, 'Go out to the towns of Judah and collect moneyfrom al Israel for annual repairs to the Temple of Yahweh. Do this quickly.' But the Levites were in no hurry,
6 E il re di Giuda chiamò Ioiada principe, e dissegli perchè non hai tu avuto cura di costringere i Leviti a raccogliere di Giuda [e di Ierusalem] la moneta (a restaurazione del tempio), la quale ordinoe Moisè servo di Dio, che tutta la moltitudine d' Israel la recasse nel tabernacolo del testimonio?	6 so the king summoned Jehoiada the chief priest and said, 'Why have you not insisted on the Levites'bringing in the tax from Judah and Jerusalem for the Tent of Witness, as imposed by Moses servant of Yahwehand the community of Israel?' --
7 Però che Atalia empiissima, e' suoi figliuoli, disfeceno la casa (del tempio) di Dio; e di tutte quelle cose, le quali erano consecrate al tempio del Signore, avea ornato il tempio di Baalim.	7 Athaliah and her sons, whom she corrupted, despoiled the Temple of God and even assigned al thesacred revenues of the Temple of Yahweh to Baal.
8 E comandò il re, e feciono una arca; e puoserla presso alla porta del Signore di fuori.	8 So, at the king's order, a chest was made and put outside the gate of the Temple of Yahweh,
9 E fu predicato in Giuda e in Ierusalem, che ciascuno portasse al Signore quello prezzo, il quale ordinò Moisè servo di Dio sopra tutto Israel nel deserto.	9 and a proclamation was issued throughout Judah and Jerusalem that the tax, which Moses servant ofGod had imposed on Israel in the desert, was to be brought to Yahweh.
10 E tutti i prìncipi e tutto il popolo si rallegrarono; ed entrando diedono e misono nell' arca del Signore, sì che fu piena.	10 Then al the officials and all the people gladly brought in their contributions, depositing them in thechest until the payment was complete.
11 Ed essendo il tempo da portare l'arca per mano de' Leviti dinanzi al re; però che vedeano (che ivi entrava) molta pecunia; entrava il notaio del re, e quello ch' era ordinato [dal] primo sacerdote; vuotavano la moneta la quale era nell' arca, e l'arca riportavano al luogo suo; e così facevano ogni dì, e fu raunata infinita pecunia.	11 Whenever the chest was brought by the Levites for royal inspection and found to contain a large sumof money, the king's secretary and the chief priest's representative would come and empty the chest and thenhave it returned to its place. This was done day after day and a great deal of money was col ected.
12 La quale il re e Ioiada diedono a quelli ch' erano soprastanti all' opera della casa del Signore; e coloro di quella conduceano i maestri tagliatori di pietre, e artefici d'ogni lavorio, a restaurare il tempio di Dio, e fabri di ferro e di metallo, acciò che quello ch' era cominciato a cadere fosse racconcio.	12 The king and Jehoiada handed it over to the foreman attached to the Temple of Yahweh, and thehired masons and carpenters set about repairing the Temple of Yahweh; and iron-workers and bronze-workerslaboured to repair the Temple of Yahweh.
13 E quelli che operavano feciono con prudenza; e le rompiture delle mura veniano [chiuse] per le loro mani; e suscitarono la casa del Signore nel primo stato, e fecerla stare ferma.	13 The workmen got on with the task -- the repair work made good progress at their hands -- until theyhad restored the Temple of God to its former state and reconditioned it.
14 E compiute tutte l' opere, riportoro dinanzi al re e a Ioiada tutta l'altra parte della moneta; della quale fecero fare vasa per lo tempio al ministerio dello olocausto, e ampolle, e tutte l'altre vasa d'oro e d'ariento; e offereansi nella casa di Dio gli olocausti continuamente tutto il tempo di Ioiada.	14 When they had finished, they brought the balance of the money to the king and Jehoiada, and withthis vessels were made for the Temple of Yahweh, vessels for the liturgy and for the burnt offerings, bowls andother gold and silver vessels. And the perpetual burnt offering was offered in the Temple of Yahweh throughoutJehoiada's lifetime.
15 E Ioiada pieno di die invecchiò; ed essendo di CXXX anni (invecchiò e) morì.	15 But Jehoiada, growing old, had his fil of days and died. He died at the age of a hundred and thirtyyears,
16 E seppellironlo nella città di David con esso i re, però che avea ben fatto con Israel e con la casa sua.	16 and was buried with the kings in the City of David because he had served Israel and God and hisTemple well.
17 E da poi che morì Ioiada, i prìncipi di Giuda entrarono al re, e adoraronlo; il qual (era) consolato alle parole loro, consentì a loro.	17 After Jehoiada's death the officials of Judah came to pay court to the king, and the king listened totheir advice,
18 E lasciaronlo, cioè il tempio dello Signore Iddio de' padri loro, e servirono a' boschi e agl' idoli; per la quale cagione fu fatta l'ira (di Dio) sopra Giuda e sopra Ierusalem.	18 and they abandoned the Temple of Yahweh, God of their ancestors, for the worship of sacred polesand idols. Judah and Jerusalem incurred wrath because of this guilt of theirs.
19 E mandava loro i profeti, acciò che ritornassero al Signore; ma egli non gli vollero intendere.	19 He sent their prophets to lead them back to Yahweh; these put the case against them, but theywould not listen.
20 Onde lo spirito di Dio uscìo a Zacaria, figliuolo di Ioiada sacerdote, il quale istette nel cospetto del popolo, e disse loro: questo dice il Signore: perchè passate voi il comandamento del Signore, la quale cosa non vi farà pro', e avete lasciato il Signore acciò che egli lasci voi?	20 The spirit of God then invested Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest. He stood up before the peopleand said, 'God says this, "Why transgress Yahweh's commands to your certain ruin? For if you abandonYahweh, he will abandon you."
21 Li quali raunati [contra lui] gittarono le pietre, secondo il comandamento del re, nelle case della casa di Dio.	21 They then plotted against him and, at the king's order, stoned him in the court of the Temple ofYahweh.
22 E non si ricordò il re Ioas della misericordia, la quale avea fatta con esso lui Ioiada suo padre; ma uccise il suo figliuolo. Il quale morendo disse: il Signore il veggia e ricerchi.	22 Thus King Joash, forgetful of the devotion which Jehoiada father of Zechariah had displayed on hisbehalf, murdered his son, who cried out as he died, 'Yahweh wil see this and avenge it!'
23 E rivoluto l'anno, ascendette lo esercito di Siria contra a lui; e venne in Giuda e in Ierusalem, e uccise tutti i prìncipi del popolo, e tutta la preda mandò al re in Damasco.	23 At the turn of the year, the Aramaean army made war on Joash. When they reached Judah andJerusalem, they massacred al the nation's government officials and sent al their booty to the king of Damascus.
24 E certo, essendo venuto piccolo numero di Sirii, il Signore diede nelle loro mani infinita moltidine, però che aveano lasciato il Signore Iddio dei padri loro; e contro a Ioas fecero vituperosi giudicii.	24 Although the invading Aramaean army was only a smal body of men, Yahweh al owed them todefeat a very large army because they had abandoned Yahweh, God of their ancestors; thus they executedjudgement on Joash. After they had retired -- for they left him seriously wounded-
25 E partendosi, lasciaronlo in grande malattia; e levaronsi contra lui i servi suoi in vendetta del sangue del figliuolo di Ioiada sacerdote, e ucciserlo in su il letto suo; e seppellironlo nella città di David, ma non nelle sepolture dei re.	25 his own retainers plotted against him to avenge the blood of the son of Jehoiada the priest andmurdered him in his bed. When he died he was buried in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.
26 E puosergli agguati Zabad figliuolo di Semmaat Ammanitide, e Iozabad figliuolo di Semarit di Moab.	26 These were the conspirators: Zabad son of Shimeath the Ammonite and Jehozabad son of Shimriththe Moabite.
27 E i suoi figliuoli, e la somma della pecunia la qual era congregata al suo tempo, e la restaurazione della casa di Dio, sono scritte più diligentemente nel libro de' re; e (dopo lui) regnò per lui Amasia suo figliuolo.	27 As regards his sons, the heavy tribute imposed on him, and the restoration of the Temple of God,this is recorded in the Commentary on the Book of the Kings. His son Amaziah succeeded him.
