1 Ed era in verità Abraam vecchio e di molti dì; e lo Signore in ogni cosa l'avea benedetto.	1 And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things.
2 (E prima che morisse, sì pensò dar mogliere ad Isaac) e disse al servo suo più vecchio della casa sua ( ch' avea nome Eliezer), il qual era sopra tutti quelli ch' egli avea: poni la mano tua sotto lo fianco mio.	2 And Abraham said unto his eldest servant of his house, that ruled over all that he had, Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh:
3 Ed iscongiùroti per lo Signore Iddio del cielo e della terra, che tu non die moglie al fanciullo mio delle figliuole de'Cananei, tra i quali io abito.	3 And I will make thee swear by the LORD, the God of heaven, and the God of the earth, that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell:
4 Ma alla terra e al parentado mio va; e quindi darai moglie al mio figliuolo Isaac.	4 But thou shalt go unto my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son Isaac.
5 Rispose lo servo: se gli non vorrà la femina venire meco in questa terra, ove debbo io reducere lo figliuolo tuo? al luogo donde tu venisti?	5 And the servant said unto him, Peradventure the woman will not be willing to follow me unto this land: must I needs bring thy son again unto the land from whence thou camest?
6 Disse Abraam: guàrdati che tu non reduchi lo figliuolo mio colà.	6 And Abraham said unto him, Beware thou that thou bring not my son thither again.
7 Lo Signore Iddio del cielo, il quale menò me della casa del padre mio e della terra della natività mia, il quale mi favellò e giuroe, dicendo: al seme tuo io darò questa terra, egli manderà l'angelo suo innanzi a te, e torra'ne quindi la moglie allo figliuolo mio.	7 The LORD God of heaven, which took me from my father's house, and from the land of my kindred, and which spake unto me, and that sware unto me, saying, Unto thy seed will I give this land; he shall send his angel before thee, and thou shalt take a wife unto my son from thence.
8 E se la femina non ti vorrà seguitare, non sarai tenuto al giuramento; ma il figliuolo mio non riducerai colà.	8 And if the woman will not be willing to follow thee, then thou shalt be clear from this my oath: only bring not my son thither again.
9 E pose adunque lo servo la mano sopra lo fianco di Abraam suo signore, e giuroe a lui sopra questa parola.	9 And the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and sware to him concerning that matter.
10 E tolse X cammelli della greggia del signor suo, e andossene portando seco d'ogni suo bene; e partitosi, andò in Mesopotamia alla città di Nacor.	10 And the servant took ten camels of the camels of his master, and departed; for all the goods of his master were in his hand: and he arose, and went to Mesopotamia, unto the city of Nahor.
11 E conciosia cosa che facesse giacere nel vespro li cammelli fuori dell' oppido, appresso uno pozzo d'acqua, in quello tempo che sogliono andare le femine ad attingere dell' acqua, disse:	11 And he made his camels to kneel down without the city by a well of water at the time of the evening, even the time that women go out to draw water.
12 O Signore Iddio del signore mio Abraam, corri oggi, io ti priego, a me; e fà la misericordia col signore mio Abraam.	12 And he said, O LORD God of my master Abraham, I pray thee, send me good speed this day, and shew kindness unto my master Abraham.
13 Ecco ch' io sto presso alla fonte dell' acqua; e le figliuole degli abitatori di questa città verranno ad attingere dell' acqua.	13 Behold, I stand here by the well of water; and the daughters of the men of the city come out to draw water:
14 Adunque la fanciulla, a cui io dirò: inchina la secchia tua acciò ch' io bea, ed ella dirae: bei, darò anche a bere alli tuoi cammelli, quella è colei che tu apparecchiasti al servo tuo Isaac; e per questa cosa intenderò che tu averai fatta la misericordia col signore mio.	14 And let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that thou hast shewed kindness unto my master.
15 Nè ancora intra sè le parole avea compiute, ed ecco Rebecca figliuola di Batuel, figliuolo di Melca moglie di Nacor fratello di Abraam, venia; la qual portava una idria sopra la spalla sua.	15 And it came to pass, before he had done speaking, that, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham's brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder.
16 La fanciulla molto bella e vergine e non conosciuta da uomo in verità era discesa alla fonte, ed avea empiuta la secchia, e ritornava.	16 And the damsel was very fair to look upon, a virgin, neither had any man known her: and she went down to the well, and filled her pitcher, and came up.
17 E corsele il servo incontra, e dissele: dàmmi uno poco d'acqua, di quella che è nella secchia tua, per bere.	17 And the servant ran to meet her, and said, Let me, I pray thee, drink a little water of thy pitcher.
18 La quale rispuose a lui: [bevi] mio signore; e allegramente puose la secchia sopra la coscia sua, e dièdegli a bere.	18 And she said, Drink, my lord: and she hasted, and let down her pitcher upon her hand, and gave him drink.
19 E quando quegli ebbe bevuto, disse: in verità ed a' cammelli tuoi attingerò dell' acqua, insino a tanto che tutti beano.	19 And when she had done giving him drink, she said, I will draw water for thy camels also, until they have done drinking.
20 E spargente la secchia ne'canali, ricorse al pozzo acciò ch' ella attignesse dell' acqua; e a tutti i camelli ne diede.	20 And she hasted, and emptied her pitcher into the trough, and ran again unto the well to draw water, and drew for all his camels.
21 Ed egli in verità contemplava lei tacitamente, volendo sapere se prospero avesse fatto lo cammin suo lo Signore, o no.	21 And the man wondering at her held his peace, to wit whether the LORD had made his journey prosperous or not.
22 Poscia adunque che i cammelli aveano bevuto, proferse l'uomo nelle orecchie le cose d'oro, [di peso di ] due sicli, ed altrettante armille di peso di X sicli.	22 And it came to pass, as the camels had done drinking, that the man took a golden earring of half a shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold;
23 E disse a lei: di cui figliuola se' tu? dillomi; ed è nella casa del padre tuo luogo di starvi?	23 And said, Whose daughter art thou? tell me, I pray thee: is there room in thy father's house for us to lodge in?
24 La quale rispose: figliuola di Batuel sono, figliuolo di Melca, il quale partorì lui a Nacor.	24 And she said unto him, I am the daughter of Bethuel the son of Milcah, which she bare unto Nahor.
25 E aggiunse dicendo: di paglia e di fieno molto ne abbiamo, ed è luogo spazioso di starvi.	25 She said moreover unto him, We have both straw and provender enough, and room to lodge in.
26 Inchinossi l'uomo, e adorò lo Signore,	26 And the man bowed down his head, and worshipped the LORD.
27 dicendo: benedetto sia lo Signore Iddio del signore mio Abraam, il quale non tolse la misericordia e la verità sua del signore mio, il quale per la retta strada mi ha condotto a casa del fratello del mio signore.	27 And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of my master Abraham, who hath not left destitute my master of his mercy and his truth: I being in the way, the LORD led me to the house of my master's brethren.
28 E corse adunque la fanciulla, e nunciò nella casa della madre sua ogni cosa che avea veduto.	28 And the damsel ran, and told them of her mother's house these things.
29 Ed avea Rebecca uno fratello; lo nome suo Laban; il quale tosto è venuto a quell'uomo, ov'era la fonte.	29 And Rebekah had a brother, and his name was Laban: and Laban ran out unto the man, unto the well.
30 E conciosia cosa che vedesse nelli orecchii e l'armille nelle mani della sorella sua, ed avesse udite tutte le parole della rapportante: queste cose favelló a me l'uomo, e'venne all'uomo il quale stava appresso de' cammelli, e appresso della fonte dell' acqua,	30 And it came to pass, when he saw the earring and bracelets upon his sister's hands, and when he heard the words of Rebekah his sister, saying, Thus spake the man unto me; that he came unto the man; and, behold, he stood by the camels at the well.
31 e disse a lui: vieni dentro, benedetto mio signore; perchè stai fuori? ed io apparecchiai la casa ed il luogo ai cammelli.	31 And he said, Come in, thou blessed of the LORD; wherefore standest thou without? for I have prepared the house, and room for the camels.
32 E sì lo introdusse in casa, e sì discargò i cammelli, e diede loro paglia e fieno, ed acqua a lavare i piedi de'cammelli e degli uomini ch' erano venuti con lui.	32 And the man came into the house: and he ungirded his camels, and gave straw and provender for the camels, and water to wash his feet, and the men's feet that were with him.
33 E puose dinanzi al cospetto suo il pane; il quale disse: io non manicherò, insino a tanto ch' io averò favellato queste parole. Respuose a lui: favella.	33 And there was set meat before him to eat: but he said, I will not eat, until I have told mine errand. And he said, Speak on.
34 E quello disse: servo d'Abraam sono.	34 And he said, I am Abraham's servant.
35 E lo Signore benedisse lo signore mio molto, e magnificò, e diede a lui pecore, buoi, ariento ed oro, servi ed ancille, cammelli ed asini.	35 And the LORD hath blessed my master greatly; and he is become great: and he hath given him flocks, and herds, and silver, and gold, and menservants, and maidservants, and camels, and asses.
36 E parturie Sara, moglie del signore mio, figliuolo al signore mio nella vecchiezza sua; e diede a lui ogni cosa ch' avea.	36 And Sarah my master's wife bare a son to my master when she was old: and unto him hath he given all that he hath.
37 E lo signore mio scongiurommi, dicendo: non darai moglie allo figliuolo mio delle figliuole de'Cananei, nella terra in la quale io abito.	37 And my master made me swear, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife to my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I dwell:
38 Ma alla casa del padre mio anderai; e del parentado mio darai moglie al figliuolo mio.	38 But thou shalt go unto my father's house, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son.
39 Io però respuosi al signore mio: or se non vorrà la femina venire meco?	39 And I said unto my master, Peradventure the woman will not follow me.
40 Ed il Signore, disse, nel cospetto del quale io vo, manderà l'angelo suo teco a dirizzare la via tua; e darai moglie allo figliuolo mio del parentado mio e della casa del padre mio.	40 And he said unto me, The LORD, before whom I walk, will send his angel with thee, and prosper thy way; and thou shalt take a wife for my son of my kindred, and of my father's house:
41 Innocente sarai dalla maledizione mia, quando sarai venuto ai parenti miei, e non te la daranno.	41 Then shalt thou be clear from this my oath, when thou comest to my kindred; and if they give not thee one, thou shalt be clear from my oath.
42 Io venni adunque oggi alla fonte dell' acqua, e dissi: Signore Iddio del signore mio Abraam, se tu dirizzasti aguale la via nella quale io vo,	42 And I came this day unto the well, and said, O LORD God of my master Abraham, if now thou do prosper my way which I go;
43 ecco io sto appresso alla fonte dell' acqua; e la vergine che verrà attingere dell' acqua udirà da me: dammi uno poco d'acqua da bere della secchia tua;	43 Behold, I stand by the well of water; and it shall come to pass, that when the virgin cometh forth to draw water, and I say to her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water of thy pitcher to drink;
44 e dirà a me: tu bei, e a'cammelli tuoi attignerò; ella è quella femina, la quale apparecchiò lo Signore allo figliuolo del signore mio.	44 And she say to me, Both drink thou, and I will also draw for thy camels: let the same be the woman whom the LORD hath appointed out for my master's son.
45 E intanto ch' io queste cose meco tacita mente ragionassi, appare Rebecca, vegnente colla secchia ch' ella portava in su l'omero suo; e venne alla fonte, e attinse dell' acqua; ed io dissi a lei: dammi uno poco a bere.	45 And before I had done speaking in mine heart, behold, Rebekah came forth with her pitcher on her shoulder; and she went down unto the well, and drew water: and I said unto her, Let me drink, I pray thee.
46 Affrettantesi, dispuose la secchia dell' omero, e disse a me: e tu bei, e a' cammelli tuoi darò bere. Io bevvi, e acquai li cammelli.	46 And she made haste, and let down her pitcher from her shoulder, and said, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: so I drank, and she made the camels drink also.
47 E domandai lei, e dissi: di cui figliuola se tu? La quale respuose: figliuola di Batuel sono, figliuolo di Naccor, il quale gli partorì Melca. Adunque io puosi nelle orecchie ad ornare la faccia sua, e le armille puosi nelle mani sue.	47 And I asked her, and said, Whose daughter art thou? And she said, The daughter of Bethuel, Nahor's son, whom Milcah bare unto him: and I put the earring upon her face, and the bracelets upon her hands.
48 Ed inchinevole adorai lo Signore, benedicente lo Signore Iddio del signore mio Abraam, il quale meno me con diritto andamento, acciò ch' io dèssi la figliuola del fratello del signore mio al figliuolo suo.	48 And I bowed down my head, and worshipped the LORD, and blessed the LORD God of my master Abraham, which had led me in the right way to take my master's brother's daughter unto his son.
49 [Per] la quale cosa, se voi farete la misericordia e la verità col signore mio, ditelo a me. E se altro vi piace, e questo mi dite, acciò ch' io vada dalla mano diritta, ovvero dalla manca.	49 And now if ye will deal kindly and truly with my master, tell me: and if not, tell me; that I may turn to the right hand, or to the left.
50 Rispuose Laban e Batuel: dal Signore è venuta questa parola, e non possiamo, fuori del piacere suo, alcuna cosa altra favellare teco.	50 Then Laban and Bethuel answered and said, The thing proceedeth from the LORD: we cannot speak unto thee bad or good.
51 In verità Rebecca innanzi a te è; e tolli lei, e va, e mènalane, e sia moglie del figliuolo del Signore tuo, siccome hae detto lo Signore (tuo).	51 Behold, Rebekah is before thee, take her, and go, and let her be thy master's son's wife, as the LORD hath spoken.
52 La quale cosa quando l'udie lo servo di Abraam, adorò nella terra lo Signore.	52 And it came to pass, that, when Abraham's servant heard their words, he worshipped the LORD, bowing himself to the earth.
53 E tolti i vasi dell' ariento ed oro e vestimenta, dièdele a Rebecca in dono; e a' fratelli suoi e alla madre donò doni.	53 And the servant brought forth jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment, and gave them to Rebekah: he gave also to her brother and to her mother precious things.
54 E incominciato lo convito, mangiando e bevendo istettero qui. E levantesi la mattina, favel loe lo servo: lasciatemi, acciò ch' io vada allo Signore mio.	54 And they did eat and drink, he and the men that were with him, and tarried all night; and they rose up in the morning, and he said, Send me away unto my master.
55 Rispuose li fratelli suoi e la madre: fa che stieci la fanciulla almeno X die appresso di noi, e poscia se ne venga.	55 And her brother and her mother said, Let the damsel abide with us a few days, at the least ten; after that she shall go.
56 Ed egli disse: non mi vogliate ritenere impercio che il Signore Iddio dirizzò la via mia; lasciatemi, acciò ch' io vada al signore mio Abraam.	56 And he said unto them, Hinder me not, seeing the LORD hath prospered my way; send me away that I may go to my master.
57 Ed egli dissero: chiamiamo la fanciulla, sappiamo la volontà sua.	57 And they said, We will call the damsel, and inquire at her mouth.
58 E conciosiacosa ch' ella chiamata venisse, la domandarono: vòi tu andare con questo uomo? La quale disse: io anderò.	58 And they called Rebekah, and said unto her, Wilt thou go with this man? And she said, I will go.
59 Lasciarono adunque lei e la balia sua e lo servo d'Abraam e le compagne della sorella loro,	59 And they sent away Rebekah their sister, and her nurse, and Abraham's servant, and his men.
60 dicendo: nostra sirocchia se ', cresci in mille migliaia, e possegga lo seme tuo le porte de nemici suoi.	60 And they blessed Rebekah, and said unto her, Thou art our sister, be thou the mother of thousands of millions, and let thy seed possess the gate of those which hate them.
61 Adunque Rebecca e le fanciulle sue, ascesi i cammelli, seguitarono il servo; il quale, affrettan dosi, ritornava al signore suo.	61 And Rebekah arose, and her damsels, and they rode upon the camels, and followed the man: and the servant took Rebekah, and went his way.
62 In quello medesimo tempo Isaac andava per la via, la qual indrizza al pozzo, del quale il nome è DEL VIVENTE E DEL VEDENTE; e abitava nella terra australe.	62 And Isaac came from the way of the well Lahai-roi; for he dwelt in the south country.
63 Ed era venuto a meditare nel campo, inchi nato già lo dì; e conciosia cosa che levasse gli occhi, vidde gli cammelli vegnenti dalla lunga.	63 And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the eventide: and he lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, the camels were coming.
64 In verità Rebecca, riguardato Isaac, discese del cammello.	64 And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she lighted off the camel.
65 E disse al servo: chi è quello uomo che viene per lo campo incontro a noi? Ed egli disse: egli è lo signore mio. Ed ella, togliendo tosto uno panno, si coperse.	65 For she had said unto the servant, What man is this that walketh in the field to meet us? And the servant had said, It is my master: therefore she took a vail, and covered herself.
66 E lo servo ogni cosa, ch' ella avea fatto, si disse ad Isaac.	66 And the servant told Isaac all things that he had done.
67 Il quale menò lei nel tabernacolo di Sara sua madre, e tòlsela per moglie; e tanto amoe lei, che il dolore della madre, che gli era venuto, temperò.	67 And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.
