| 1 חָכְמֹות בָּנְתָה בֵיתָהּ חָצְבָה עַמּוּדֶיהָ שִׁבְעָה | 1 Wisdom has built herself a house, she has hewn her seven pil ars, |
| 2 טָבְחָה טִבְחָהּ מָסְכָה יֵינָהּ אַף עָרְכָה שֻׁלְחָנָהּ | 2 she has slaughtered her beasts, drawn her wine, she has laid her table. |
| 3 שָׁלְחָה נַעֲרֹתֶיהָ תִקְרָא עַל־גַּפֵּי מְרֹמֵי קָרֶת | 3 She has despatched her maidservants and proclaimed from the heights above the city, |
| 4 מִי־פֶתִי יָסֻר הֵנָּה חֲסַר־לֵב אָמְרָה לֹּו | 4 'Who is simple? Let him come this way.' To the fool she says, |
| 5 לְכוּ לַחֲמוּ בְלַחֲמִי וּשְׁתוּ בְּיַיִן מָסָכְתִּי | 5 'Come and eat my bread, drink the wine which I have drawn! |
| 6 עִזְבוּ פְתָאיִם וִחְיוּ וְאִשְׁרוּ בְּדֶרֶךְ בִּינָה | 6 Leave foolishness behind and you wil live, go forwards in the ways of perception.' |
| 7 יֹסֵר ׀ לֵץ לֹקֵחַ לֹו קָלֹון וּמֹוכִיחַ לְרָשָׁע מוּמֹו | 7 Reprove a mocker and you attract contempt, rebuke the wicked and you attract dishonour. |
| 8 אַל־תֹּוכַח לֵץ פֶּן־יִשְׂנָאֶךָּ הֹוכַח לְחָכָם וְיֶאֱהָבֶךָּ | 8 Do not rebuke the mocker, he wil hate you. Rebuke the wise and he wil love you for it. |
| 9 תֵּן לְחָכָם וְיֶחְכַּם־עֹוד הֹודַע לְצַדִּיק וְיֹוסֶף לֶקַח׃ פ | 9 Be open with the wise, he grows wiser stil , teach the upright, he wil gain yet more. |
| 10 תְּחִלַּת חָכְמָה יִרְאַת יְהוָה וְדַעַת קְדֹשִׁים בִּינָה | 10 The first principle of wisdom is the fear of Yahweh, What God's holy ones know -- this isunderstanding. |
| 11 כִּי־בִי יִרְבּוּ יָמֶיךָ וְיֹוסִיפוּ לְּךָ שְׁנֹות חַיִּים | 11 For by me your days wil be multiplied, and your years of life increased. |
| 12 אִם־חָכַמְתָּ חָכַמְתָּ לָּךְ וְלַצְתָּ לְבַדְּךָ תִשָּׂא | 12 Are you wise? You are wise to your own good. A mocker? The burden is yours alone. |
| 13 אֵשֶׁת כְּסִילוּת הֹמִיָּה פְּתַיּוּת וּבַל־יָדְעָה מָּה | 13 A silly woman acts on impulse, is foolish and knows nothing. |
| 14 וְיָשְׁבָה לְפֶתַח בֵּיתָהּ עַל־כִּסֵּא מְרֹמֵי קָרֶת | 14 She sits at the door of her house, on a throne high up in the city, |
| 15 לִקְרֹא לְעֹבְרֵי־דָרֶךְ הַמְיַשְּׁרִים אֹרְחֹותָם | 15 cal ing to the passers-by, who are walking straight past on their way, |
| 16 מִי־פֶתִי יָסֻר הֵנָּה וַחֲסַר־לֵב וְאָמְרָה לֹּו | 16 'Who is simple? Turn aside, come over here.' To the fool she says, |
| 17 מַיִם־גְּנוּבִים יִמְתָּקוּ וְלֶחֶם סְתָרִים יִנְעָם | 17 'Stolen waters are sweet, and bread tastes better when eaten in secret.' |
| 18 וְלֹא־יָדַע כִּי־רְפָאִים שָׁם בְּעִמְקֵי שְׁאֹול קְרֻאֶיהָ׃ פ | 18 But the fool does not know that this is where the Shades are and that her guests are already in thevales of Sheol. |
| 19 כִּי־שְׁמַעְנָה נָשִׁים דְּבַר־יְהוָה וְתִקַּח אָזְנְכֶם דְּבַר־פִּיו וְלַמֵּדְנָה בְנֹותֵיכֶם נֶהִי וְאִשָּׁה רְעוּתָהּ קִינָה | |
| 20 כִּי־עָלָה מָוֶת בְּחַלֹּונֵינוּ בָּא בְּאַרְמְנֹותֵינוּ לְהַכְרִית עֹולָל מִחוּץ בַּחוּרִים מֵרְחֹבֹות | |
| 21 דַּבֵּר כֹּה נְאֻם־יְהוָה וְנָפְלָה נִבְלַת הָאָדָם כְּדֹמֶן עַל־פְּנֵי הַשָּׂדֶה וּכְעָמִיר מֵאַחֲרֵי הַקֹּצֵר וְאֵין מְאַסֵּף׃ ס | |
| 22 כֹּה ׀ אָמַר יְהוָה אַל־יִתְהַלֵּל חָכָם בְּחָכְמָתֹו וְאַל־יִתְהַלֵּל הַגִּבֹּור בִּגְבוּרָתֹו אַל־יִתְהַלֵּל עָשִׁיר בְּעָשְׁרֹו | |
| 23 כִּי אִם־בְּזֹאת יִתְהַלֵּל הַמִּתְהַלֵּל הַשְׂכֵּל וְיָדֹעַ אֹותִי כִּי אֲנִי יְהוָה עֹשֶׂה חֶסֶד מִשְׁפָּט וּצְדָקָה בָּאָרֶץ כִּי־בְאֵלֶּה חָפַצְתִּי נְאֻם־יְהוָה׃ ס | |
| 24 הִנֵּה יָמִים בָּאִים נְאֻם־יְהוָה וּפָקַדְתִּי עַל־כָּל־מוּל בְּעָרְלָה | |
| 25 עַל־מִצְרַיִם וְעַל־יְהוּדָה וְעַל־אֱדֹום וְעַל־בְּנֵי עַמֹּון וְעַל־מֹואָב וְעַל כָּל־קְצוּצֵי פֵאָה הַיֹּשְׁבִים בַּמִּדְבָּר כִּי כָל־הַגֹּויִם עֲרֵלִים וְכָל־בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל עַרְלֵי־לֵב׃ ס | |
