1 In quel tempo, passando Gesù tra le messi in giorno di sabato, i suoi discepoli presi dalla fame, si misero a strappare delle spighe e a mangiarne.	1 At that time Jesus went through the cornfields one Sabbath day. His disciples were hungry and beganto pick ears of corn and eat them.
2 I farisei, vedendo ciò, dissero: "Ecco, i tuoi discepoli fanno quello che non è lecito fare in giorno di sabato".	2 The Pharisees noticed it and said to him, 'Look, your disciples are doing something that is forbiddenon the Sabbath.'
3 Egli rispose loro: "Non avete mai letto ciò che fece Davide, quando ebbe fame lui e i suoi compagni?	3 But he said to them, 'Have you not read what David did when he and his fol owers were hungry-
4 Come entrò nella casa di Dio e mangiò i pani dell'offerta, che non era lecito mangiare né a lui né ai suoi compagni, ma solo ai sacerdoti?	4 how he went into the house of God and they ate the loaves of the offering although neither he nor hisfol owers were permitted to eat them, but only the priests?
5 O non avete letto nella legge che in giorno di sabato i sacerdoti nel tempio violano il riposo sabatico e tuttavia sono senza colpa?	5 Or again, have you not read in the Law that on the Sabbath day the Temple priests break the Sabbathwithout committing any fault?
6 Io vi dico che qui c'è qualcosa di più grande del tempio!	6 Now here, I tel you, is something greater than the Temple.
7 Se aveste capito che cosa significa: Misericordia voglio e non sacrificio, non avreste condannato degli innocenti.	7 And if you had understood the meaning of the words: Mercy is what pleases me, not sacrifice, youwould not have condemned the blameless.
8 Sì, il Figlio dell'uomo è padrone del sabato".	8 For the Son of man is master of the Sabbath.'
9 Andato via di là, si recò nella loro sinagoga.	9 He moved on from there and went to their synagogue;
10 C'era là un uomo che aveva una mano rattrappita. Domandarono a Gesù: "E' lecito guarire in giorno di sabato?". Dicevano ciò per accusarlo.	10 now a man was there with a withered hand. They asked him, 'Is it permitted to cure somebody on theSabbath day?' hoping for something to charge him with.
11 Egli disse loro: "Qual è fra voi quell'uomo che, avendo una sola pecora, se questa cade in un burrone di sabato, non l'afferra e la tira su?	11 But he said to them, 'If any one of you here had only one sheep and it fell down a hole on theSabbath day, would he not get hold of it and lift it out?
12 Ora, quanto è più prezioso un uomo di una pecora! Perciò è lecito fare del bene in giorno di sabato".	12 Now a man is far more important than a sheep, so it fol ows that it is permitted on the Sabbath day todo good.'
13 Allora disse all'uomo: "Stendi la tua mano". Egli la stese, e tornò sana come l'altra.	13 Then he said to the man, 'Stretch out your hand.' He stretched it out and his hand was restored, assound as the other one.
14 Usciti, i farisei tennero consiglio contro di lui per toglierlo di mezzo.	14 At this the Pharisees went out and began to plot against him, discussing how to destroy him.
15 Gesù, quando venne a sapere la cosa, si allontanò di là. Molti gli andarono dietro ed egli li guarì tutti;	15 Jesus knew this and withdrew from the district. Many fol owed him and he cured them al
16 ma comandò loro di non diffondere la sua fama.	16 but warned them not to make him known.
17 Ciò affinché si adempisse quanto fu annunciato dal profeta Isaia che dice:	17 This was to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah:
18 Ecco il mio servo che io ho scelto, il mio diletto, nel quale si compiace l'anima mia. Porrò il mio spirito su di lui e il diritto annunzierà alle genti.	18 Look! My servant whom I have chosen, my beloved, in whom my soul delights, I wil send my Spiritupon him, and he wil present judgement to the nations;
19 Non altercherà, né griderà; né udrà alcuno la sua voce nelle piazze.	19 he wil not brawl or cry out, his voice is not heard in the streets,
20 Una canna spezzata non la frantumerà; e un lucignolo fumigante non lo spegnerà, finché non porti il diritto a vittoria;	20 he wil not break the crushed reed, or snuff the faltering wick,
21 e nel suo nome le genti spereranno.	21 until he has made judgement victorious; in him the nations will put their hope.
22 Allora gli fu presentato un indemoniato che era cieco e muto ed egli lo guarì, sicché il muto parlava e vedeva.	22 Then they brought to him a blind and dumb demoniac; and he cured him, so that the dumb man couldspeak and see.
23 Tutta la folla, presa d'ammirazione, diceva: "Che non sia questi il Figlio di Davide?".	23 Al the people were astounded and said, 'Can this be the son of David?'
24 Ma i farisei, saputolo, dissero: "Egli non scaccia i demòni se non in virtù di Beelzebùl, capo dei demòni".	24 But when the Pharisees heard this they said, 'The man drives out devils only through Beelzebul, thechief of the devils.'
25 Conoscendo i loro pensieri Gesù disse loro: "Ogni regno in sé diviso va in rovina. Ogni città o casa in sé divisa non potrà reggere.	25 Knowing what was in their minds he said to them, 'Every kingdom divided against itself is heading forruin; and no town, no household divided against itself can last.
26 E se Satana scaccia Satana, vuol dire che è diviso in se stesso; come dunque potrà stare in piedi il suo regno?	26 Now if Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself; so how can his kingdom last?
27 E se io scaccio i demòni in virtù di Beelzebùl, in virtù di chi li scacciano i vostri figli? Per questo essi saranno vostri giudici.	27 And if it is through Beelzebul that I drive devils out, through whom do your own experts drive themout? They shal be your judges, then.
28 Ma se io scaccio i demòni in virtù dello Spirito di Dio, vuol dire che realmente è giunto a voi il regno di Dio.	28 But if it is through the Spirit of God that I drive out devils, then be sure that the kingdom of God hascaught you unawares.
29 E come può uno entrare nella casa di colui che è forte e portar via i suoi beni, se prima non l'avrà legato? Allora soltanto potrà saccheggiarne la casa.	29 'Or again, how can anyone make his way into a strong man's house and plunder his property unlesshe has first tied up the strong man? Only then can he plunder his house.
30 Chi non è con me è contro di me, e chi non raccoglie con me disperde".	30 'Anyone who is not with me is against me, and anyone who does not gather in with me throws away.
31 "Per questo vi dico: ogni peccato e bestemmia sarà rimessa agli uomini, ma la bestemmia contro lo Spirito non sarà rimessa.	31 And so I tel you, every human sin and blasphemy will be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spiritwil not be forgiven.
32 Se uno dice una parola contro il Figlio dell'uomo, gli sarà perdonata. Ma se la dice contro lo Spirito Santo, non vi sarà perdono per lui né in questo secolo né in quello futuro".	32 And anyone who says a word against the Son of man wil be forgiven; but no one who speaks againstthe Holy Spirit wil be forgiven either in this world or in the next.
33 "O ammettete che l'albero sia buono e allora il frutto sarà buono, oppure ammettete che l'albero sia cattivo e allora il frutto sarà cattivo. Dal frutto infatti si conosce l'albero.	33 'Make a tree sound and its fruit wil be sound; make a tree rotten and its fruit will be rotten. For thetree can be told by its fruit.
34 Razza di vipere! Come potete dire cose buone voi che siete cattivi? Dalla pienezza del cuore parla la bocca.	34 You brood of vipers, how can your speech be good when you are evil? For words flow out of what fil sthe heart.
35 L'uomo buono da uno scrigno buono trae fuori cose buone, e così l'uomo cattivo da uno scrigno cattivo trae fuori cose cattive.	35 Good people draw good things from their store of goodness; bad people draw bad things from theirstore of badness.
36 Io vi dico che di ogni parola detta fuori posto dovranno render conto gli uomini nel giorno del giudizio.	36 So I tel you this, that for every unfounded word people utter they wil answer on Judgement Day,
37 Poiché in base alle tue parole sarai giustificato e in base alle tue parole sarai condannato".	37 since it is by your words you wil be justified, and by your words condemned.'
38 Allora si rivolsero a lui alcuni scribi e farisei dicendo: "Maestro, vorremmo vedere da te un segno".	38 Then some of the scribes and Pharisees spoke up. 'Master,' they said, 'we should like to see a sign from you.'
39 Egli rispose loro: "Generazione cattiva e spergiura! Va in cerca di un segno! Ma non le sarà dato altro segno che quello di Giona profeta.	39 He replied, 'It is an evil and unfaithful generation that asks for a sign! The only sign it wil be given isthe sign of the prophet Jonah.
40 Infatti, come Giona rimase nel ventre del pesce per tre giorni e tre notti, così il Figlio dell'uomo rimarrà nel cuore della terra per tre giorni e tre notti.	40 For as Jonah remained in the belly of the sea-monster for three days and three nights, so wil the Sonof man be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights.
41 Gli uomini di Ninive insorgeranno nel giudizio con questa generazione e la condanneranno; poiché si convertirono alla predicazione di Giona; eppure c'è qui qualcosa di più di Giona.	41 On Judgement Day the men of Nineveh will appear against this generation and they wil be itscondemnation, because when Jonah preached they repented; and look, there is something greater than Jonahhere.
42 La regina del sud sorgerà nel giudizio con questa generazione e la condannerà; poiché venne dall'estremità della terra ad ascoltare la sapienza di Salomone; eppure c'è qui qualcosa di più di Salomone".	42 On Judgement Day the Queen of the South wil appear against this generation and be itscondemnation, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and look, there issomething greater than Solomon here.
43 "Quando uno spirito immondo esce dall'uomo, erra per luoghi deserti in cerca di riposo e non ne trova.	43 'When an unclean spirit goes out of someone it wanders through waterless country looking for aplace to rest, and cannot find one.
44 Allora dice: "Ritornerò nella mia dimora, da dove sono uscito". Va e la trova vuota, spazzata e ben pulita.	44 Then it says, "I wil return to the home I came from." But on arrival, finding it unoccupied, swept andtidied,
45 Allora corre a prendere sette spiriti peggiori di sé e vanno a stabilirsi lì. Così quest'ultima situazione di quell'uomo diventa peggiore della prima. Proprio così avverrà a questa generazione cattiva".	45 it then goes off and col ects seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and set uphouse there, and so that person ends up worse off than before. That is what will happen to this wickedgeneration.'
46 Mentre ancora parlava alle folle, sua madre e i suoi fratelli stavano fuori e chiedevano di parlargli.	46 He was still speaking to the crowds when suddenly his mother and his brothers were standingoutside and were anxious to have a word with him.
47 Qualcuno gli disse: "Tua madre e i tuoi fratelli stanno fuori e chiedono di parlarti".	47 still speaking to the crowds when suddenly his mother and his brothers were standing outside andwere anxious to have a word with him.
48 Ma egli rispose: "Chi è mia madre e chi sono i miei fratelli?".	48 But to the man who told him this Jesus replied, 'Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?'
49 Quindi stese la mano verso i suoi discepoli e disse: "Ecco mia madre e i miei fratelli;	49 And stretching out his hand towards his disciples he said, 'Here are my mother and my brothers.
50 chiunque fa la volontà del Padre mio che è nei cieli, questi mi è fratello, sorella e madre".	50 Anyone who does the wil of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.'
