1 - Appena fatto giorno, tutti i principi dei Sacerdoti e gli anziani del popolo fecero un complotto contro Gesù per farlo morire;	1 And when morning was come, all the chief priests and ancients of the people took counsel against Jesus, that they might put him to death.
2 e, legatolo, lo menarono via e consegnarono al governatore Ponzio Pilato. Il suicidio di Giuda	2 And they brought him bound, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.
3 Allora Giuda, che l'aveva tradito, vedendo che Gesù era stato condannato, ne ebbe rimorso e riportò i trenta danari ai principi dei Sacerdoti e agli anziani,	3 Then Judas, who betrayed him, seeing that he was condemned, repenting himself, brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and ancients,
4 dicendo: «Ho peccato, poichè ho tradito il sangue innocente». Ma quelli risposero: «Che importa a noi? Pensaci tu».	4 Saying: I have sinned in betraying innocent blood. But they said: What is that to us? look thou to it.
5 Ed egli, gettate le monete d'argento nel tempio si allontanò e andò a impiccarsi.	5 And casting down the pieces of silver in the temple, he departed: and went and hanged himself with an halter.
6 Ma i principi dei Sacerdoti, raccolte le monete d'argento, dissero: «Non è lecito metterle nel tesoro del tempio, perchè sono prezzo di sangue».	6 But the chief priests having taken the pieces of silver, said: It is not lawful to put them into the corbona, because it is the price of blood.
7 E dopo essersi consultati tra loro, comperarono con esse il " Campo del Vasaio " per darvi sepoltura ai forestieri.	7 And after they had consulted together, they bought with them the potter's field, to be a burying place for strangers.
8 Perciò quel campo venne chiamato fino al giorno d'oggi Aceldama, cioè " Campo di Sangue ".	8 For this cause the field was called Haceldama, that is, The field of blood, even to this day.
9 Così si adempì quel ch'era stato detto dal profeta Geremia: «E presero i trenta danari d'argento, prezzo di chi fu venduto, che fu messo a prezzo dai figli di Israele;	9 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremias the prophet, saying: And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was prized, whom they prized of the children of Israel.
10 e li dettero per comperare il " Campo del Vasaio ", come mi aveva ordinato il Signore».	10 And they gave them unto the potter's field, as the Lord appointed to me.
11 Gesù comparve davanti al governatore; e il governatore lo interrogò dicendo: «Sei tu il re dei Giudei?». Gesù rispose: «Tu lo dici».	11 And Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, saying: Art thou the king of the Jews? Jesus saith to him: Thou sayest it.
12 E accusato dai principi dei Sacerdoti e dagli anziani, non rispose nulla.	12 And when he was accused by the chief priests and ancients, he answered nothing.
13 Pilato allora gli disse: «Non senti di quante cose ti accusano?».	13 Then Pilate saith to him: Dost not thou hear how great testimonies they allege against thee?
14 Ma egli non rispose a nessuna delle accuse, tanto che il governatore se ne meravigliava grandemente.	14 And he answered him to never a word; so that the governor wondered exceedingly.
15 Soleva il governatore ogni festa di Pasqua liberare il prigioniero che piacesse alla moltitudine.	15 Now upon the solemn day the governor was accustomed to release to the people one prisoner, whom they would.
16 Aveva allora un detenuto famoso, di nome Barabba.	16 And he had then a notorious prisoner, that was called Barabbas.
17 Pilato, adunatisi quelli, disse loro: «Chi volete che vi liberi, Barabba o Gesù chiamato Cristo?».	17 They therefore being gathered together, Pilate said: Whom will you that I release to you, Barabbas, or Jesus that is called Christ?
18 Perchè egli sapeva che glielo avevano consegnato per invidia.	18 For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.
19 Mentre egli sedeva in tribunale, sua moglie gli mandò a dire: «Non impicciarti con quel giusto; perchè oggi ho sofferto molto in sogno per via di lui».	19 And as he was sitting in the place of judgment, his wife sent to him, saying: Have thou nothing to do with that just man; for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.
20 Ma i principi dei Sacerdoti e gli anziani persuasero il popolo a chiedere Barabba e a far morire Gesù.	20 But the chief priests and ancients persuaded the people, that they should ask Barabbas, and make Jesus away.
21 Il governatore prendendo la parola domandò: «Qual dei due volete che vi liberi?». Risposero: «Barabba».	21 And the governor answering, said to them: Whether will you of the two to be released unto you? But they said, Barabbas.
22 E Pilato a loro: «Che farò dunque di Gesù, chiamato Cristo?».	22 Pilate saith to them: What shall I do then with Jesus that is called Christ? They say all: Let him be crucified.
23 Tutti risposero: «Sia crocifisso». Replicò: «Che ha fatto dunque di male?». Ma quelli gridavan maggiormente: «Sia crocifisso!».	23 The governor said to them: Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying: Let him be crucified.
24 Pilato, visto che non approdava a nulla, e che anzi il tumulto si faceva maggiore, prese un catino e si lavò le mani innanzi al popolo, dicendo: «Io sono innocente del sangue di questo giusto; pensateci voi».	24 And Pilate seeing that he prevailed nothing, but that rather a tumult was made; taking water washed his hands before the people, saying: I am innocent of the blood of this just man; look you to it.
25 E tutto il popolo replicò: «Il sangue suo ricada su noi e sui nostri figli!».	25 And the whole people answering, said: His blood be upon us and our children.
26 Allora rilasciò loro Barabba, e dopo aver fatto flagellare Gesù, lo diede nelle lor mani per essere crocifisso.	26 Then he released to them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, delivered him unto them to be crucified.
27 Allora i soldati del governatore, condotto Gesù nel pretorio, gli radunarono attorno tutta la coorte.	27 Then the soldiers of the governor taking Jesus into the hall, gathered together unto him the whole band;
28 E, spogliatolo, gli misero addosso un manto scarlatto;	28 And stripping him, they put a scarlet cloak about him.
29 e, intrecciata una corona di spine, gliela misero in capo e gli posero una canna nella destra; poi, piegando il ginocchio davanti a lui, lo schernivano dicendo: «Salute, re dei Giudei!».	29 And platting a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand. And bowing the knee before him, they mocked him, saying: Hail, king of the Jews.
30 E sputandogli addosso, prendevano la canna e gli percotevano la testa.	30 And spitting upon him, they took the reed, and struck his head.
31 Dopo averlo schernito, lo spogliarono del manto e, rivestitolo delle sue vesti, lo menarono via per crocifiggerlo.	31 And after they had mocked him, they took off the cloak from him, and put on him his own garments, and led him away to crucify him.
32 Nell'uscire, s'imbatterono in un uomo di Cirene, chiamato Simone, e lo costrinsero a portare la croce di Gesù.	32 And going out, they found a man of Cyrene, named Simon: him they forced to take up his cross.
33 E giunti al luogo chiamato " Golgota " che vuol dire " Luogo del Cranio ",	33 And they came to the place that is called Golgotha, which is the place of Calvary.
34 gli diedero a bere del vino misto con fiele; ma, avendolo assaggiato, non ne volle bere.	34 And they gave him wine to drink mingled with gall. And when he had tasted, he would not drink.
35 Quando l'ebbero messo in croce se ne divisero le vesti, tirando a sorte, affinchè si adempisse la parola del profeta: «Si sono divisi tra loro i miei abiti e gettarono la sorte sopra la mia veste».	35 And after they had crucified him, they divided his garments, casting lots; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: They divided my garments among them; and upon my vesture they cast lots.
36 E, postisi a sedere, gli facevano la guardia.	36 And they sat and watched him.
37 E sopra alla testa di lui posero lo scritto della sua condanna: «QUESTI È GESÙ IL RE DEI GIUDEI».	37 And they put over his head his cause written: THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
38 Nel medesimo tempo furon crocifissi con lui due ladroni, uno a destra e l'altro a sinistra.	38 Then were crucified with him two thieves: one on the right hand, and one on the left.
39 Coloro che passavano lo bestemmiavano, scrollando il capo	39 And they that passed by, blasphemed him, wagging their heads,
40 e dicendo: «Tu che distruggi il tempio di Dio e in tre giorni lo riedifichi, salva te stesso! Se tu sei il Figliuol di Dio, scendi giù dalla croce!».	40 And saying: Vah, thou that destroyest the temple of God, and in three days dost rebuild it: save thy own self: if thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.
41 Nello stesso modo i principi dei Sacerdoti con gli Scribi e i Farisei si beffavan di lui dicendo:	41 In like manner also the chief priests, with the scribes and ancients, mocking, said:
42 «Ha salvato gli altri, e non può salvare se stesso! S'egli è il re di Israele, scenda ora dalla croce e noi crederemo in lui.	42 He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the king of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.
43 Ha confidato in Dio; se Dio lo ama, lo liberi adesso; poichè ha detto: - Io sono il Figlio di Dio-».	43 He trusted in God; let him now deliver him if he will have him; for he said: I am the Son of God.
44 E nello stesso modo lo insultavano i due ladroni crocifissi con lui.	44 And the selfsame thing the thieves also, that were crucified with him, reproached him with.
45 Dall'ora sesta si fece buio per tutta la terra fino all'ora nona.	45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over the whole earth, until the ninth hour.
46 Verso l'ora nona Gesù gridò a voce alta: «Elì, Elì, lamma sabactani?» cioè: «Dio mio, Dio mio, perchè mi hai abbandonato?».	46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying: Eli, Eli, lamma sabacthani? that is, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
47 Alcuni degli astanti, udito ciò, dissero: «Costui chiama Elia».	47 And some that stood there and heard, said: This man calleth Elias.
48 E subito un di loro corse a prendere una spugna, che inzuppò nell'aceto e, postala in cima a una canna, gli diede da bere.	48 And immediately one of them running took a sponge, and filled it with vinegar; and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.
49 Gli altri dicevano: «Lascia, vediamo se viene Elia a salvarlo».	49 And the others said: Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to deliver him.
50 Gesù, dopo aver di nuovo gridato con gran voce, rese lo spirito.	50 And Jesus again crying with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
51 Ed ecco che il velo del tempio si squarciò in due parti da capo a fondo, e la terra tremò e le rocce si fendettero;	51 And behold the veil of the temple was rent in two from the top even to the bottom, and the earth quaked, and the rocks were rent.
52 e le tombe si spalancarono e molti corpi di santi che riposavano risuscitarono;	52 And the graves were opened: and many bodies of the saints that had slept arose,
53 e usciti dalle tombe entrarono, dopo la resurrezione di lui, nella città santa e apparvero a molti.	53 And coming out of the tombs after his resurrection, came into the holy city, and appeared to many.
54 Il centurione e quelli ch'eran con lui a far la guardia a Gesù, vedendo il terremoto e le cose che succedevano, temettero grandemente e dissero: «Costui era davvero Figliuolo di Dio».	54 Now the centurion and they that were with him watching Jesus, having seen the earthquake, and the things that were done, were sore afraid, saying: Indeed this was the Son of God.
55 V'erano pure parecchie donne che osservavan da lontano; esse avevano seguìto Gesù dalla Galilea per assisterlo;	55 And there were there many women afar off, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him:
56 tra di loro c'era Maria Maddalena, Maria madre di Giacomo e di Giuseppe e la madre dei figli di Zebedeo.	56 Among whom was Mary Magdalen, and Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.
57 Calata la sera, venne un uomo ricco d'Arimatea, chiamato Giuseppe, discepolo egli pure di Gesù;	57 And when it was evening, there came a certain rich man of Arimathea, named Joseph, who also himself was a disciple of Jesus.
58 egli andò a presentarsi a Pilato per domandare il corpo di Gesù. E Pilato comandò che il corpo gli fosse rilasciato.	58 He went to Pilate, and asked the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded that the body should be delivered.
59 Giuseppe, preso il corpo, lo avvolse in un lenzuolo bianco	59 And Joseph taking the body, wrapped it up in a clean linen cloth.
60 e postolo nel sepolcro nuovo che s'era fatto scavare per sè nella roccia, dopo aver rotolata una gran pietra all'ingresso del sepolcro, se n'andò.	60 And laid it in his own new monument, which he had hewed out in a rock. And he rolled a great stone to the door of the monument, and went his way.
61 Ora Maria Maddalena e l'altra Maria se ne stavan sedute dirimpetto al sepolcro.	61 And there was there Mary Magdalen, and the other Mary sitting over against the sepulchre.
62 Il giorno appresso, ch'era quello dopo la Parasceve, i principi dei Sacerdoti e i Farisei si riunirono presso Pilato	62 And the next day, which followed the day of preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees came together to Pilate,
63 e gli dissero: «Signore, ci siamo ricordati che quell'impostore da vivo ha detto: - Dopo tre giorni risusciterò. -	63 Saying: Sir, we have remembered, that that seducer said, while he was yet alive: After three days I will rise again.
64 Dà ordini dunque che il suo sepolcro sia custodito fino al terzo giorno, affinchè i suoi discepoli non vengano a rubare il corpo, e poi dicano al popolo: - È risorto dai morti. - Quest'ultimo inganno sarebbe peggiore del primo».	64 Command therefore the sepulchre to be guarded until the third day: lest perhaps his disciples come and steal him away, and say to the people: He is risen from the dead; and the last error shall be worse than the first.
65 Pilato rispose loro: «Avete la guardia; andate, custodite come vi pare».	65 Pilate saith to them: You have a guard; go, guard it as you know.
66 Ed essi andarono ad assicurare il sepolcro, sigillando la pietra e mettendovi la guardia.	66 And they departing, made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting guards.
