1 - Allora il regno de' cieli sarà simile a dieci vergini, le quali, prese le loro lampade, uscirono incontro allo sposo.	1 “Then the kingdom of heaven shall be like ten virgins, who, taking their lamps, went out to meet the groom and the bride.
2 Di esse cinque erano stolte e cinque prudenti.	2 But five of them were foolish, and five were prudent.
3 Or le stolte, nel prendere le lampade, non s'eran provvedute d'olio;	3 For the five foolish, having brought their lamps, did not take oil with them.
4 le prudenti invece portarono insieme con le lampade, anche l'olio nei vasetti.	4 Yet truly, the prudent ones brought the oil, in their containers, with the lamps.
5 Siccome lo sposo tardava, cominciarono a sonnecchiare e si addormentarono.	5 Since the bridegroom was delayed, they all fell asleep, and they were sleeping.
6 Sulla mezzanotte s'udì un grido: - Ecco lo sposo, che viene, andategli incontro! -	6 But in the middle of the night, a cry went out: ‘Behold, the groom is arriving. Go out to meet him.’
7 Si levarono allora tutte quelle vergini e prepararon le lampade.	7 Then all those virgins rose up and trimmed their lamps.
8 E le stolte dissero alle prudenti: - Dateci un po' del vostro olio perchè le nostre lampade si spengono. -	8 But the foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give to us from your oil, for our lamps are being extinguished.’
9 Ma le prudenti risposero: - No, che poi non basterebbe nè a noi nè a voi; andatevene piuttosto da quelli che lo vendono e compratene. -	9 The prudent responded by saying, ‘Lest perhaps there may not be enough for us and for you, it would be better for you to go to the vendors and buy some for yourselves.’
10 Ma, intanto che esse andavano a comprarne, arrivò lo sposo; e quelle che eran pronte, entraron con lui nella sala delle nozze e l'uscio fu chiuso.	10 But while they were going to buy it, the groom arrived. And those who were prepared entered with him to the wedding, and the door was closed.
11 Più tardi, vennero l'altre vergini, dicendo: - Signore, Signore, aprici! -	11 Yet truly, at the very end, the remaining virgins also arrived, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us.’
12 Ma egli rispose: - In verità vi dico: non vi conosco. -	12 But he responded by saying, ‘Amen I say to you, I do not know you.’
13 Vigilate, dunque, poichè non sapete nè il giorno nè l'ora.	13 And so you must be vigilant, because you do not know the day or the hour.
14 Poichè avverrà come di un uomo, il quale sul punto di mettersi in viaggio, chiamò i suoi servi e consegnò loro i suoi beni.	14 For it is like a man setting out on a long journey, who called his servants and delivered to them his goods.
15 A uno diede cinque talenti, a un altro due e a un altro uno, a ciascuno secondo la sua capacità, e subito partì.	15 And to one he gave five talents, and to another two, yet to another he gave one, to each according to his own ability. And promptly, he set out.
16 Colui che aveva ricevuto cinque talenti andò subito a trafficarli e ne guadagnò altri cinque.	16 Then he who had received five talents went out, and he made use of these, and he gained another five.
17 Allo stesso modo colui che n'aveva ricevuti due, ne guadagnò altri due.	17 And similarly, he who had received two gained another two.
18 Ma chi ne aveva ricevuto uno, se ne andò a fare una buca in terra e vi sotterrò il denaro del suo padrone.	18 But he who had received one, going out, dug into the earth, and he hid the money of his lord.
19 Dopo molto tempo ritornò il padrone di quei servi e li chiamò a rendere i conti.	19 Yet truly, after a long time, the lord of those servants returned and he settled accounts with them.
20 Venne chi aveva ricevuto cinque talenti e ne presentò altri cinque, dicendo: - Signore, mi hai affidato cinque talenti, ecco, ne ho guadagnati altri cinque. -	20 And when he who had received five talents approached, he brought another five talents, saying: ‘Lord, you delivered five talents to me. Behold, I have increased it by another five.’
21 Il suo padrone gli rispose: - Va bene, servo buono e fedele; sei stato fedele nel poco, ti darò autorità sul molto; entra nel gaudio del tuo padrone. -	21 His lord said to him: ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. Since you have been faithful over a few things, I will appoint you over many things. Enter into the gladness of your lord.’
22 Si presentò poi anche quello che aveva ricevuto due talenti e disse: - Signore, tu mi hai affidato due talenti; ecco, ne ho guadagnati altri due. -	22 Then he who had received two talents also approached, and he said: ‘Lord, you delivered two talents to me. Behold, I have gained another two.’
23 Il padrone gli disse: - Va bene, servo buono e fedele; sei stato fedele nel poco, ti darò autorità sul molto; entra nel gaudio del tuo padrone. -	23 His lord said to him: ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. Since you have been faithful over a few things, I will appoint you over many things. Enter into the gladness of your lord.’
24 Venne pure quello che aveva ricevuto un solo talento e disse: - Signore, io sapevo che tu sei uomo severo, che mieti dove non hai seminato e raccogli dove non hai sparso;	24 Then he who had received one talent, approaching, said: ‘Lord, I know that you are a hard man. You reap where you have not sown, and gather where you have not scattered.
25 ebbi paura e andai a nascondere il tuo talento sotterra; eccoti il tuo. -	25 And so, being afraid, I went out and hid your talent in the earth. Behold, you have what is yours.’
26 Ma il padrone gli rispose così: - Servo iniquo e infingardo, sapevi che io mieto dove non ho seminato e raccolgo dove non ho sparso;	26 But his lord said to him in response: ‘You evil and lazy servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered.
27 dovevi dunque portare il mio denaro ai banchieri, e al mio ritorno avrei ritirato il mio con l'interesse.	27 Therefore, you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and then, at my arrival, at least I would have received what is mine with interest.
28 Toglietegli perciò il talento e datelo a colui che ne ha dieci;	28 And so, take the talent away from him and give it the one who has ten talents.
29 perchè a chi ha, sarà dato di più ed egli sarà nell'abbondanza; ma a chi non ha, sarà tolto anche quel [poco] che ha.	29 For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he shall have in abundance. But from him who has not, even what he seems to have, shall be taken away.
30 E questo servo inutile gettatelo nelle tenebre esterne; ivi sarà pianto e stridor di denti. - Il giudizio finale	30 And cast that useless servant into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
31 Quando il Figliuol dell'uomo verrà nella sua gloria con tutti gli angeli, allora sederà sul trono della sua gloria.	31 But when the Son of man will have arrived in his majesty, and all the Angels with him, then he will sit upon the seat of his majesty.
32 Tutte le genti saranno adunate innanzi a lui ed egli separerà gli uni dagli altri, come il pastore separa le pecore dai capretti	32 And all the nations shall be gathered together before him. And he shall separate them from one another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
33 e metterà le pecore alla sua destra e i capretti alla sinistra.	33 And he shall station the sheep, indeed, on his right, but the goats on his left.
34 Allora il Re dirà a quanti saranno alla sua destra: - Venite, o benedetti dal Padre mio; possedete il regno che vi è stato preparato fin dalla fondazione del mondo.	34 Then the King shall say to those who will be on his right: ‘Come, you blessed of my Father. Possess the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
35 Perchè io ebbi fame e voi mi deste da mangiare; ebbi sete e mi deste da bere; fui pellegrino e m'avete accolto;	35 For I was hungry, and you gave me to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me to drink; I was a stranger, and you took me in;
36 fui ignudo e m'avete rivestito; fui infermo e mi visitaste; fui in prigione e mi veniste a trovare. -	36 naked, and you covered me; sick, and you visited me; I was in prison, and you came to me.’
37 Allora i giusti gli domanderanno: - Signore, quando mai ti abbiam visto aver fame e ti abbiam dato da mangiare? e aver sete e ti abbiam dato da bere?	37 Then the just will answer him, saying: ‘Lord, when have we see you hungry, and fed you; thirsty, and given you drink?
38 Quando t'abbiam veduto pellegrino e ti abbiamo accolto? o ignudo e ti abbiam rivestito?	38 And when have we seen you a stranger, and taken you in? Or naked, and covered you?
39 Quando mai ti abbiam veduto infermo o in prigione e siam venuti a trovarti? -	39 Or when did we see you sick, or in prison, and visit to you?’
40 E il Re risponderà loro: - In verità vi dico, che tutte le volte che avete fatto qualche cosa a uno di questi minimi tra i miei fratelli, l'avete fatta a me. -	40 And in response, the King shall say to them, ‘Amen I say to you, whenever you did this for one of these, the least of my brothers, you did it for me.’
41 Allora dirà a quelli di sinistra: - Andate via da me, maledetti, nel fuoco eterno, che è preparato per il diavolo e i suoi angeli.	41 Then he shall also say, to those who will be on his left: ‘Depart from me, you accursed ones, into the eternal fire, which was prepared for the devil and his angels.
42 Perchè io ebbi fame e voi non mi deste da mangiare; ebbi sete e non mi deste da bere;	42 For I was hungry, and you did not give me to eat; I was thirsty, and you did not give me to drink;
43 fui pellegrino e non mi avete accolto; ignudo, e non mi rivestiste; infermo e in prigione e non mi veniste a trovare. -	43 I was a stranger and you did not take me in; naked, and you did not cover me; sick and in prison, and you did not visit me.’
44 Allora anche costoro domanderanno: - Signore, quando ti abbiam veduto aver fame o sete, o esser pellegrino, o ignudo, o infermo, o in prigione e non ti abbiamo assistito? -	44 Then they will also answer him, saying: ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to you?’
45 Allora egli risponderà loro: - Io vi dico in verità che tutte le volte che voi non l'avete fatto a uno di questi minimi tra i miei fratelli, non l'avete fatto a me. -	45 Then he shall respond to them by saying: ‘Amen I say to you, whenever you did not do it to one of these least, neither did you do it to me.’
46 E questi se n'andranno nell'eterno supplizio, i giusti invece alla vita eterna».	46 And these shall go into eternal punishment, but the just shall go into eternal life.”
