A Psalm according to Solomon. | 1 In you, Yahweh, I take refuge, I shal never be put to shame. |
Give your judgment, O God, to the king, and your justice to the king’s son, to judge your people with justice and your poor with judgment. | 2 In your saving justice rescue me, deliver me, listen to me and save me. |
Let the mountains take up peace for the people, and the hills, justice. | 3 Be a sheltering rock for me, always accessible; you have determined to save me, for you are my rock,my fortress. |
He will judge the poor of the people, and he will bring salvation to the sons of the poor. And he will humble the false accuser. | 4 My God, rescue me from the clutches of the wicked, from the grasp of the rogue and the ruthless. |
And he will remain, with the sun and before the moon, from generation to generation. | 5 For you are my hope, Lord, my trust, Yahweh, since boyhood. |
He will descend like rain upon fleece, and like showers showering upon the earth. | 6 On you I have relied since my birth, since my mother's womb you have been my portion, the constanttheme of my praise. |
In his days, justice will rise like the sun, with abundance of peace, until the moon is taken away. | 7 Many were bewildered at me, but you are my sure refuge. |
And he will rule from sea to sea and from the river to the limits of the whole world. | 8 My mouth is full of your praises, fil ed with your splendour all day long. |
In his sight, the Ethiopians will fall prostrate, and his enemies will lick the ground. | 9 Do not reject me in my old age, nor desert me when my strength is failing, |
The kings of Tarshish and the islands will offer gifts. The kings of Arabia and of Seba will bring gifts. | 10 for my enemies are discussing me, those with designs on my life are plotting together. |
And all the kings of the earth shall adore him. All nations will serve him. | 11 'Hound him down, for God has deserted him! Seize him, there is no one to rescue him.' |
For he will free the poor from the powerful, and the poor one who has no helper. | 12 God, do not stand aloof, my God, come quickly to help me. |
He will spare the poor and the indigent, and he will bring salvation to the souls of the poor. | 13 Shame and ruin on those who slander me, may those intent on harming me be covered with insultand infamy. |
He will redeem their souls from usuries and from iniquity, and their names shall be honorable in his sight. | 14 As for me, my hope wil never fade, I wil praise you more and more. |
And he will live, and to him will be given from the gold of Arabia, and by him they will always adore. They will bless him all day long. | 15 My lips shal proclaim your saving justice, your saving power all day long. |
And there will be a firmament on earth, at the summits of mountains: its fruits will be extolled above Lebanon, and those of the city will flourish like the grass of the earth. | 16 I wil come in the power of Yahweh to tel of your justice, yours alone. |
May his name be blessed forever; may his name remain before the sun. And all the tribes of the earth will be blessed in him. All nations will magnify him. | 17 God, you have taught me from boyhood, and I am still proclaiming your marvels. |
Blessed is the Lord, God of Israel, who alone does wondrous things. | 18 Now that I am old and grey-haired, God, do not desert me, til I have proclaimed your strength togenerations still to come, your power |
And blessed is the name of his majesty in eternity. And all the earth will be filled with his majesty. Amen. Amen. | 19 and justice to the skies. You have done great things, God, who is like you? |
The praises of David, the son of Jesse, have reached an end. | 20 You have shown me much misery and hardship, but you will give me life again, You will raise me upagain from the depths of the earth, |
prolong my old age, and comfort me again.
For my part, I will thank you on the lyre for your constancy, my God. I wil play the harp in yourhonour, Holy One of Israel.
My lips sing for joy as I play to you, because you have redeemed me,
and al day long my tongue muses on your saving justice. Shame and disgrace on those intent toharm me! |
