NEW JERUSALEM	Biblia Tysiąclecia
1 There was a famine in the country -- different from the previous famine which took place in the time ofAbraham -- and Isaac went to Abimelech, the Philistine king at Gerar.	1 Gdy w kraju nastał głód, drugi z kolei po tym, który był za czasów Abrahama, Izaak powędrował do Abimeleka, króla filistyńskiego, do Geraru.
2 Yahweh had appeared to him and said, 'Do not go down to Egypt; stay in the country which I shalpoint out to you.	2 Ukazał mu się bowiem Pan i rzekł: Nie idź do Egiptu, lecz zatrzymaj się w tym kraju, który ci wskażę.
3 Remain for the present in that country; I shal be with you and bless you, for I shal give al thesecountries to you and your descendants in fulfilment of the oath I swore to your father Abraham.	3 Zamieszkaj w tym kraju, a ja będę z tobą, będę ci błogosławił. Bo tobie i twemu potomstwu oddaję wszystkie te ziemie i dotrzymam przysięgi, którą dałem twojemu ojcu, Abrahamowi,
4 I shal make your descendants as numerous as the stars of heaven, and I shal give them al thesecountries, and al nations on earth wil bless themselves by your descendants	4 że rozmnożę potomstwo twe jak gwiazdy na niebie oraz dam twojemu potomstwu wszystkie te ziemie. Wszystkie ludy ziemi będą sobie życzyć szczęścia [takiego, jakie jest udziałem] twego potomstwa,
5 in return for Abraham's obedience; for he kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes and mylaws.'	5 dlatego że Abraham był mi posłuszny - przestrzegał tego, co mu poleciłem: moich nakazów, praw i pouczeń.
6 So Isaac stayed at Gerar.	6 Tak więc Izaak zamieszkał w Gerarze.
7 When the people of the place asked him about his wife he replied, 'She is my sister,' for he was afraidto say, 'She is my wife,' thinking, 'The people of the place wil kil me because of Rebekah, since she is beautiful.'	7 A kiedy okoliczni mieszkańcy pytali go o jego żonę, odpowiedział: Jest ona moją siostrą. Bał się bowiem mówić: To moja żona, gdyż myślał sobie: Jeszcze gotowi mnie zabić z powodu Rebeki. - Była ona bowiem bardzo piękna.
8 When he had been there some time, Abimelech the Philistine king happened to look out of the windowand saw Isaac fondling his wife Rebekah.	8 Gdy tak mieszkał tam dłuższy czas, pewnego razu Abimelek, król filistyński, wyglądając przez okno, dostrzegł Izaaka uśmiechającego się czule do Rebeki jako do żony.
9 Abimelech summoned Isaac and said to him, 'Surely she must be your wife! How could you have said,"She is my sister"?' Isaac replied, 'Because I thought I might be kil ed on her account.'	9 Wezwał więc Abimelek Izaaka i rzekł: Przecież to jest twoja żona; dlaczego mówiłeś: Jest ona moją siostrą? Odpowiedział mu Izaak: Mówiłem tak, aby przez nią nie postradać życia.
10 Abimelech said, 'What a thing to do to us! One of the people might easily have slept with your wife.We should have incurred guilt, thanks to you.'	10 A na to Abimelek: Czemu z nami tak postąpiłeś? Niewiele brakowało, aby któryś z mych poddanych żył z twoją żoną, a wtedy sprowadziłbyś na nas winę!
11 Then Abimelech issued this order to al the people: 'Whoever touches this man or his wife wil be putto death.'	11 Abimelek dał więc wszystkim swym poddanym takie ostrzeżenie: Ktokolwiek tknie się żony tego człowieka, zostanie zgładzony.
12 Isaac sowed his crops in that country, and that year he reaped a hundredfold. Yahweh blessed him	12 Przebywając w tym kraju, zasiał Izaak ziarno i doczekał się w owym roku stokrotnego plonu, gdyż Pan mu pobłogosławił.
13 and the man became rich; he prospered more and more until he was very rich indeed.	13 I tak stawał się on coraz bardziej zasobny, aż dorobił się wielkiej majętności.
14 He acquired flocks and herds and a large retinue. The Philistines began to envy him.	14 Miał liczne stada owiec i wołów i wiele służby. Toteż Filistyni z zazdrości
15 The Philistines had blocked up al the wel s dug by his father's servants -- in the days of his fatherAbraham -- fil ing them in with earth.	15 zasypali ziemią wszystkie studnie, które słudzy jego ojca, Abrahama, niegdyś wykopali.
16 Then Abimelech said to Isaac, 'You must leave us, for you have become much more powerful thanwe are.'	16 Sam zaś Abimelek rzekł do Izaaka: Odejdź od nas, bo jesteś zamożniejszy od nas!
17 So Isaac left; he pitched camp in the Val ey of Gerar and there he stayed.	17 Izaak oddalił się więc stamtąd i rozbiwszy namioty w dolinie Geraru, tam osiadł.
18 Isaac reopened the wel s dug by the servants of his father Abraham and blocked up by thePhilistines after Abraham's death, and he gave them the same names as his father had given them.	18 I zaczął oczyszczać studnie, które były niegdyś wykopane za życia Abrahama, jego ojca, a które Filistyni po śmierci Abrahama zasypali, i przywrócił im takie nazwy, jakie niegdyś ponadawał jego ojciec.
19 But when Isaac's servants, digging in the val ey, found a wel of spring-water there,	19 A gdy słudzy Izaaka, kopiąc w owej dolinie studnię, natrafili na bijące źródło,
20 the herdsmen of Gerar disputed it with Isaac's herdsmen, saying, 'That water is ours!' So Isaacnamed the wel Esek, because they had disputed with him.	20 pasterze z Geraru wszczęli sprzeczkę z pasterzami Izaaka i mówili: To dla nas ta woda! - Studnię tę nazwał on Esek, bo swarzyli się z nim o nią.
21 They dug another wel , and there was a dispute over that one too; so he named it Sitnah.	21 Potem wykopali inną studnię, i znów powstał o nią spór; toteż dał jej nazwę Sitna.
22 Then he left there, and dug another wel , and since there was no dispute over this one, he named itRehoboth, saying, 'Now Yahweh has made room for us to thrive in the country.'	22 Izaak przeniósł się więc na inne miejsce i wykopał jeszcze inną studnię. O tę studnię już nie było sporów. Izaak dał jej nazwę Rechobot, mówiąc: Teraz dał nam Pan swobodną przestrzeń, abyśmy się rozmnażali w tym kraju.
23 From there he went up to Beersheba.	23 Potem wyruszył Izaak do Beer-Szeby.
24 Yahweh appeared to him the same night and said: I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not beafraid, for I am with you. I shall bless you and multiply your offspring for my servant Abraham's sake.	24 I zaraz pierwszej nocy ukazał mu się Pan i rzekł: Ja jestem Bogiem twego ojca, Abrahama. Nie lękaj się, bo Ja będę z tobą. I będę ci błogosławił, rozmnażając twoje potomstwo przez wzgląd na Abrahama, który Mi służył.
25 There he built an altar and invoked the name of Yahweh. There he pitched his tent, and there Isaac'sservants sank a wel .	25 Izaak zbudował więc tam ołtarz i wzywał imienia Pana. Rozbił też tam swój namiot, a słudzy Izaaka wykopali tam studnię.
26 Abimelech came from Gerar to see him, with Ahuzzath his adviser and Phicol the commander of hisarmy.	26 Potem przybyli z Geraru Abimelek i Achuzat, jeden z przyjaciół Abimeleka, oraz dowódca wojska, Pikol.
27 Isaac said to them, 'Why do you come to me since you hate me, and have made me leave you?'	27 Izaak rzekł do nich: Czemu przybywacie do mnie, przecież znienawidziliście mnie i kazaliście mi się od was oddalić?
28 'It became clear to us that Yahweh was with you,' they replied, 'and so we thought, "It is time to havea treaty sworn between us, between us and you." So let us make a covenant with you:	28 Oni zaś odpowiedzieli: Widząc, jak Pan jest z tobą, postanowiliśmy, aby istniała między nami, czyli między tobą a nami umowa. Chcemy z tobą zawrzeć przymierze,
29 that you will not do us any harm, since we never molested you but were unfailingly kind to you andlet you go away in peace. Henceforth, Yahweh's blessing on you!'	29 że nie uczynisz nam nic złego, jak i my nie skrzywdziliśmy ciebie, wyświadczając ci tylko dobro, i pozwoliliśmy ci spokojnie odejść. Niechaj ci więc teraz Pan błogosławi!
30 He then made them a feast and they ate and drank.	30 Izaak wyprawił im ucztę, oni zaś jedli i pili.
31 Early next morning, they exchanged oaths. Then Isaac bade them farewell and they left him asfriends.	31 Nazajutrz rano złożyli sobie nawzajem przysięgę, po czym Izaak ich pożegnał i rozstali się w zgodzie.
32 It happened, the same day, that Isaac's servants brought him news about the well they had beendigging. 'We have found water!' they said to him.	32 A gdy tego dnia słudzy Izaaka przynieśli mu wiadomość o studni, którą wykopali, mówiąc: Znaleźliśmy wodę,
33 So he cal ed the wel Sheba, and hence the town is named Beersheba to this day.	33 nazwał on tę studnię Szibea. - Stąd miasto to nosi po dzień dzisiejszy nazwę Beer-Szeba.
34 When Esau was forty years old he married Judith daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemathdaughter of Elon the Hittite.	34 Gdy Ezaw miał czterdzieści lat, wziął za żonę Jehudit, córkę Chetyty Beeriego, oraz Bosmat, córkę Chetyty Elona.
35 These were a bitter disappointment to Isaac and Rebekah.	35 Były one powodem zgryzoty Izaaka i Rebeki.
