Matthew 21

1 When they drew near Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples,	1 E avvicinandosi a Gerusalemme, arrivato a Betfage, presso il monte degli Olivi, Gesù mandò due discepoli,
2 saying to them, "Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find an ass tethered, and a colt with her. Untie them and bring them here to me.	2 dicendo loro: Andate nel villaggio a voi di rimpetto, e subito troverete legata un'asina col suo puledro: scioglietela e menatela a me;
3 And if anyone should say anything to you, reply, 'The master has need of them.' Then he will send them at once."	3 e se alcuno vi dirà qualche cosa, ditegli che il Signore ne ha bisogno, e subito ve la rilascerà.
4 This happened so that what had been spoken through the prophet might be fulfilled:	4 Or tutto questo avvenne perchè si adempisse il detto del profeta:
5 "Say to daughter Zion, 'Behold, your king comes to you, meek and riding on an ass, and on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.'"	5 Dite alla figlia di Sion: ecco il tuo re viene a te mansueto, seduto sopra un'asina e un asinello, puledro d'una giumenta.
6 The disciples went and did as Jesus had ordered them.	6 I discepoli andarono e fecero come loro aveva comandato Gesù.
7 They brought the ass and the colt and laid their cloaks over them, and he sat upon them.	7 E menarono l'asina e il puledro, e vi misero sopra i mantelli e Gesù sopra a sedere.
8 The very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and strewed them on the road.	8 E la gran turba stese i mantelli per la strada, mentre altri tagliavano rami dagli olivi e li stendevano sulla via
9 The crowds preceding him and those following kept crying out and saying: "Hosanna to the Son of David; blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord; hosanna in the highest."	9 e le turbe che precedevano e quelle che seguivano gridavano: Osanna al Figlio di David: benedetto colui che viene nel nome del Signore: osanna nel più alto dei cieli.
10 And when he entered Jerusalem the whole city was shaken and asked, "Who is this?"	10 E, al suo entrare in Gerusalemme, tutta la città si commosse, domandando: Chi è costui?
11 And the crowds replied, "This is Jesus the prophet, from Nazareth in Galilee."	11 E le turbe rispondevano: E' Gesù, il profeta di Nazaret di Galilea.
12 Jesus entered the temple area and drove out all those engaged in selling and buying there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who were selling doves.	12 E Gesù, entrato nel tempio di Dio, ne scacciò tutti quelli che vi compravano e vendevano e rovesciò i banchi dei cambiamonete e le sedie dei venditori di colombe, dicendo loro:
13 And he said to them, "It is written: 'My house shall be a house of prayer,' but you are making it a den of thieves."	13 Sta scritto: La casa mia sarà chiamata casa di orazione; ma voi l'avete fatta una spelonca di ladri.
14 The blind and the lame approached him in the temple area, and he cured them.	14 E si avvicinarono a lui nel tempio ciechi e zoppi, e li guarì.
15 When the chief priests and the scribes saw the wondrous things he was doing, and the children crying out in the temple area, "Hosanna to the Son of David," they were indignant	15 Ma i principi dei sacerdoti e gli Scribi, avendo vedute le maraviglie da lui operate, ed i fanciulli che gridavano nel tempio: Osanna al Figlio di David,
16 and said to him, "Do you hear what they are saying?" Jesus said to them, "Yes; and have you never read the text, 'Out of the mouths of infants and nurslings you have brought forth praise'?"	16 gli dissero indignati: Senti quel che essi dicono? Sì, replicò loro Gesù, e non avete mai letto: Per bocca dei fanciulli e dei lattanti hai resa perfetta la lode?
17 And leaving them, he went out of the city to Bethany, and there he spent the night.	17 E lasciati loro, uscì fuori della città, in Befania, e vi pernottò.
18 When he was going back to the city in the morning, he was hungry.	18 La mattina dopo, tornando in città, ebbe fame.
19 Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went over to it, but found nothing on it except leaves. And he said to it, "May no fruit ever come from you again." And immediately the fig tree withered.	19 E visto lungo la strada un fico, gli si accostò; ma non trovandoci altro che foglie, gli disse: Da te non nasca mai più frutto in eterno. E il fico seccò sull'atto.
20 When the disciples saw this, they were amazed and said, "How was it that the fig tree withered immediately?"	20 Avendo ciò veduto, i discepoli esclamarono maravigliati: Come s'è seccato subito?
21 Jesus said to them in reply, "Amen, I say to you, if you have faith and do not waver, not only will you do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, 'Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,' it will be done.	21 Rispondendo loro, Gesù disse: In verità vi dico: se avrete fede e non vacillerete, farete non solo come è stato fatto a questo fico; ma quand'anche diciate a questo monte: Levati e gettati in mare, sarà fatto.
22 Whatever you ask for in prayer with faith, you will receive."	22 E quanto domanderete nell'orazione, con fede, lo otterrete.
23 When he had come into the temple area, the chief priests and the elders of the people approached him as he was teaching and said, "By what authority are you doing these things? And who gave you this authority?"	23 Essendo poi andato al tempio, i principi dei sacerdoti e gli anziani del popolo gli si accostarono, mentre egli insegnava, e gli dissero: Con quale autorità fai queste cose? e chi ti ha dato tal potere?
24 Jesus said to them in reply, "I shall ask you one question, and if you answer it for me, then I shall tell you by what authority I do these things.	24 E Gesù rispose loro: Anch'io vi farò una domanda, e, se mi risponderete, vi dirò anch'io con quale autorità faccia queste cose:
25 Where was John's baptism from? Was it of heavenly or of human origin?" They discussed this among themselves and said, "If we say 'Of heavenly origin,' he will say to us, 'Then why did you not believe him?'	25 Il battesimo di Giovanni donde era? dal cielo o dagli uomini? Ma essi ragionavano tra di sè dicendo:
26 But if we say, 'Of human origin,' we fear the crowd, for they all regard John as a prophet."	26 Se rispondiamo dal cielo, egli ci dirà: perchè dunque non gli avete creduto? Se diremo: dagli uomini, c'è da temer della folla; tutti infatti tenevano Giovanni per profeta.
27 So they said to Jesus in reply, "We do not know." He himself said to them, "Neither shall I tell you by what authority I do these things.	27 RiSposero quindi a Gesù con dire: Non lo sappiamo. Ed anch'egli a loro: Nemmeno io dico a voi con qual autorità faccia tali cose.
28 "What is your opinion? A man had two sons. He came to the first and said, 'Son, go out and work in the vineyard today.'	28 Ma che ve ne pare? Un uomo aveva due figli, e accostatosi al primo disse: Figlio, va' a lavorare oggi nella mia vigna.
29 He said in reply, 'I will not,' but afterwards he changed his mind and went.	29 Ed egli rispose: Non ne ho voglia; ma poi, pentitosi, ci andò.
30 The man came to the other son and gave the same order. He said in reply, 'Yes, sir,' but did not go.	30 E accostatosi al secondo, gli disse lo stesso. E questi rispose: Vado, signore; e non andò.
31 Which of the two did his father's will?" They answered, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Amen, I say to you, tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you.	31 Quale dei due ha fatto la volontà del padre? Il primo, risposero. Disse loro Gesù: In verità vi dico: i pubblicani e le meretrici vi andranno avanti nel regno di Dio.
32 When John came to you in the way of righteousness, you did not believe him; but tax collectors and prostitutes did. Yet even when you saw that, you did not later change your minds and believe him.	32 Perchè è venuto a voi Giovanni nelle vie della giustizia; e non gli avete creduto: ma i pubblicani e le meretrici gli han creduto: e voi nemmeno dopo aver veduto queste cose, vi siete pentiti per credere a lui.
33 "Hear another parable. There was a landowner who planted a vineyard, put a hedge around it, dug a wine press in it, and built a tower. Then he leased it to tenants and went on a journey.	33 Udite un'altra parabola: c'era un padrone, il quale piantò una vigna, la cinse di siepe, vi scavò un frantoio, vi edificò una torre, la diè a lavorare ai coloni e sene andò via lontano.
34 When vintage time drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants to obtain his produce.	34 Or quando si avvicinò il tempo dei frutti, mandò i suoi servi dai coloni per ricevere i frutti di essa.
35 But the tenants seized the servants and one they beat, another they killed, and a third they stoned.	35 Ma i coloni, presi quei servitori, chi bastonarono, chi ammazzarono, e chi lapidarono.
36 Again he sent other servants, more numerous than the first ones, but they treated them in the same way.	36 Mandò ancora altri servi in maggior numero dei primi, e coloro li trattarono allo stesso modo.
37 Finally, he sent his son to them, thinking, 'They will respect my son.'	37 Finalmente mandò loro il suo figliolo, dicendo: Avran riguardo a mio figlio.
38 But when the tenants saw the son, they said to one another, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and acquire his inheritance.'	38 Ma i coloni, visto il figliolo, dissero tra di loro: Questo è l'erede, venite, ammazziamolo, e avremo la sua eredità.
39 They seized him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him.	39 E presolo lo cacciaron fuori dalla vigna e l'uccisero.
40 What will the owner of the vineyard do to those tenants when he comes?"	40 Or quando verrà il padrone della vigna, che farà a quei coloni?
41 They answered him, "He will put those wretched men to a wretched death and lease his vineyard to other tenants who will give him the produce at the proper times."	41 Rispondono: Farà malamente perire gli scellerati ed allogherà la vigna ad altri coloni che gliene rendano il frutto a suo tempo.
42 Jesus said to them, "Did you never read in the scriptures: 'The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; by the Lord has this been done, and it is wonderful in our eyes'?	42 Dice loro Gesù: Non avete mai letto nelle Scritture: la pietra che gli edificatori hanno riprovata, essa è divenuta pietra angolare? Ciò è stato fatto dal Signore, ed è maraviglioso agli occhi nostri.
43 Therefore, I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people that will produce its fruit.	43 Per questo vi dico: vi sarà tolto il regno di Dio e sarà dato a gente che ne produca i frutti.
44 ( The one who falls on this stone will be dashed to pieces; and it will crush anyone on whom it falls.)"	44 E chi cadrà sopra questa pietra, si sfracellerà; e quello sul quale essa cadrà, sarà stritolato.
45 When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they knew that he was speaking about them.	45 E i principi dei sacerdoti e i Farisei, udite le sue parabole, compresero che parlava di loro;
46 And although they were attempting to arrest him, they feared the crowds, for they regarded him as a prophet.	46 e cercavan di catturarlo; ma ebbero paura delle turbe che lo tenevano qual profeta.
