1 βασιλευοντος κυρου περσων ετους πρωτου εις συντελειαν ρηματος κυριου εν στοματι ιερεμιου ηγειρεν κυριος το πνευμα κυρου βασιλεως περσων και εκηρυξεν εν ολη τη βασιλεια αυτου και αμα δια γραπτων λεγων	1 These are the inhabitants of the province who returned from the captivity of the exiles, whom Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, had carried away to Babylon, and who came back to Jerusalem and Judah, each man in his own city
2 ταδε λεγει ο βασιλευς περσων κυρος εμε ανεδειξεν βασιλεα της οικουμενης ο κυριος του ισραηλ κυριος ο υψιστος και εσημηνεν μοι οικοδομησαι αυτω οικον εν ιερουσαλημ τη εν τη ιουδαια	2 (those who returned with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Seraiah, Reelaiah, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Rehum, and Baanah): The census of the men of Israel:
3 ει τις εστιν ουν υμων εκ του εθνους αυτου εστω ο κυριος αυτου μετ' αυτου και αναβας εις την ιερουσαλημ την εν τη ιουδαια οικοδομειτω τον οικον του κυριου του ισραηλ ουτος ο κυριος ο κατασκηνωσας εν ιερουσαλημ	3 sons of Parosh, two thousand one hundred and seventy-two;
4 οσοι ουν κατα τοπους οικουσιν βοηθειτωσαν αυτω οι εν τω τοπω αυτου εν χρυσιω και εν αργυριω εν δοσεσιν μεθ' ιππων και κτηνων συν τοις αλλοις τοις κατ' ευχας προστεθειμενοις εις το ιερον του κυριου το εν ιερουσαλημ	4 sons of Shephatiah, three hundred and seventy-two;
5 και κατασταντες οι αρχιφυλοι των πατριων της ιουδα και βενιαμιν φυλης και οι ιερεις και οι λευιται και παντων ων ηγειρεν κυριος το πνευμα αναβηναι οικοδομησαι οικον τω κυριω τον εν ιερουσαλημ	5 sons of Arah, seven hundred and seventy-five;
6 και οι περικυκλω αυτων εβοηθησαν εν πασιν αργυριω και χρυσιω ιπποις και κτηνεσιν και ευχαις ως πλεισταις πολλων ων ο νους ηγερθη	6 sons of Pahath-moab, who were sons of Jeshua and Joab, two thousand eight hundred and twelve;
7 και ο βασιλευς κυρος εξηνεγκεν τα ιερα σκευη του κυριου α μετηγαγεν ναβουχοδονοσορ εξ ιερουσαλημ και απηρεισατο αυτα εν τω εαυτου ειδωλιω	7 sons of Elam, one thousand two hundred and fifty-four;
8 εξενεγκας δε αυτα κυρος ο βασιλευς περσων παρεδωκεν αυτα μιθριδατη τω εαυτου γαζοφυλακι δια δε τουτου παρεδοθησαν σαναβασσαρω προστατη της ιουδαιας	8 sons of Zattu, nine hundred and forty-five;
9 ο δε τουτων αριθμος ην σπονδεια χρυσα χιλια σπονδεια αργυρα χιλια θυισκαι αργυραι εικοσι εννεα	9 sons of Zaccai, seven hundred and sixty;
10 φιαλαι χρυσαι τριακοντα αργυραι δισχιλιαι τετρακοσιαι δεκα και αλλα σκευη χιλια	10 sons of Bani, six hundred and forty-two;
11 τα δε παντα σκευη διεκομισθη χρυσα και αργυρα πεντακισχιλια τετρακοσια εξηκοντα εννεα ανηνεχθη δε υπο σαναβασσαρου αμα τοις εκ της αιχμαλωσιας εκ βαβυλωνος εις ιεροσολυμα	11 sons of Bebai, six hundred and twenty-three;
12 εν δε τοις επι αρταξερξου του περσων βασιλεως χρονοις κατεγραψεν αυτω κατα των κατοικουντων εν τη ιουδαια και ιερουσαλημ βεσλεμος και μιθραδατης και ταβελλιος και ραουμος και βεελτεεμος και σαμσαιος ο γραμματευς και οι λοιποι οι τουτοις συντασσομενοι οικουντες δε εν σαμαρεια και τοις αλλοις τοποις την υπογεγραμμενην επιστολην	12 sons of Azgad, one thousand two hundred and twenty-two;
13 βασιλει αρταξερξη κυριω οι παιδες σου ραουμος ο τα προσπιπτοντα και σαμσαιος ο γραμματευς και οι επιλοιποι της βουλης αυτων κριται οι εν κοιλη συρια και φοινικη	13 sons of Adonikam, six hundred and sixty-six;
14 και νυν γνωστον εστω τω κυριω βασιλει διοτι οι ιουδαιοι αναβαντες παρ' υμων προς ημας ελθοντες εις ιερουσαλημ την πολιν την αποστατιν και πονηραν οικοδομουσιν τας τε αγορας αυτης και τα τειχη θεραπευουσιν και ναον υποβαλλονται	14 sons of Bigvai, two thousand and fifty-six;
15 εαν ουν η πολις αυτη οικοδομηθη και τα τειχη συντελεσθη φορολογιαν ου μη υπομεινωσιν δουναι αλλα και βασιλευσιν αντιστησονται	15 sons of Adin, four hundred and fifty-four;
16 και επει ενεργειται τα κατα τον ναον καλως εχειν υπολαμβανομεν μη υπεριδειν το τοιουτο αλλα προσφωνησαι τω κυριω βασιλει οπως αν φαινηται σοι επισκεφθη εν τοις απο των πατερων σου βιβλιοις	16 sons of Ater, who were sons of Hezekiah, ninety-eight;
17 και ευρησεις εν τοις υπομνηματισμοις τα γεγραμμενα περι τουτων και γνωση οτι η πολις ην εκεινη αποστατις και βασιλεις και πολεις ενοχλουσα και οι ιουδαιοι αποσταται και πολιορκιας συνισταμενοι εν αυτη ετι εξ αιωνος δι' ην αιτιαν και η πολις αυτη ηρημωθη	17 sons of Bezai, three hundred and twenty-three;
18 νυν ουν υποδεικνυμεν σοι κυριε βασιλευ διοτι εαν η πολις αυτη οικοδομηθη και τα ταυτης τειχη ανασταθη καθοδος σοι ουκετι εσται εις κοιλην συριαν και φοινικην	18 sons of Jorah, one hundred and twelve;
19 τοτε αντεγραψεν ο βασιλευς ραουμω τω γραφοντι τα προσπιπτοντα και βεελτεεμω και σαμσαιω γραμματει και τοις λοιποις τοις συντασσομενοις και οικουσιν εν τη σαμαρεια και συρια και φοινικη τα υπογεγραμμενα	19 sons of Hashum, two hundred and twenty-three;
20 ανεγνων την επιστολην ην πεπομφατε προς με	20 sons of Gibeon, ninety-five;
21 επεταξα ουν επισκεψασθαι και ευρεθη οτι εστιν η πολις εκεινη εξ αιωνος βασιλευσιν αντιπαρατασσουσα και οι ανθρωποι αποστασεις και πολεμους εν αυτη συντελουντες	21 sons of Bethlehem, one hundred and twenty-three;
22 και βασιλεις ισχυροι και σκληροι ησαν εν ιερουσαλημ κυριευοντες και φορολογουντες κοιλην συριαν και φοινικην	22 men of Netophah, fifty-six;
23 νυν ουν επεταξα αποκωλυσαι τους ανθρωπους εκεινους του οικοδομησαι την πολιν	23 men of Anathoth, one hundred and twenty-eight;
24 και προνοηθηναι οπως μηθεν παρα ταυτα γενηται και μη προβη επι πλειον τα της κακιας εις το βασιλεις ενοχλησαι	24 men of Beth-azmaveth, forty-two;
25 τοτε αναγνωσθεντων των παρα του βασιλεως αρταξερξου γραφεντων ο ραουμος και σαμσαιος ο γραμματευς και οι τουτοις συντασσομενοι αναζευξαντες κατα σπουδην εις ιερουσαλημ μεθ' ιππου και οχλου παραταξεως ηρξαντο κωλυειν τους οικοδομουντας	25 men of Kiriath-jearim, Chephirah, and Beeroth, seven hundred and forty-three;
26 και ηργει η οικοδομη του ιερου του εν ιερουσαλημ μεχρι του δευτερου ετους της βασιλειας δαρειου του περσων βασιλεως	26 men of Ramah and Geba, six hundred and twenty-one;
	27 men of Michmas, one hundred and twenty-two;
	28 men of Bethel and Ai, two hundred and twenty-three;
	29 sons of Nebo, fifty-two;
	30 sons of Magbish, one hundred and fifty-six;
	31 sons of the other Elam, one thousand two hundred and fifty-four;
	32 sons of Harim, three hundred and twenty;
	33 sons of Lod, Hadid, and Ono, seven hundred and twenty-five;
	34 sons of Jericho, three hundred and forty-five;
	35 sons of Senaah, three thousand six hundred and thirty.
	36 The priests: sons of Jedaiah, who were of the house of Jeshua, nine hundred and seventy-three;
	37 sons of Immer, one thousand and fifty-two;
	38 sons of Pashhur, one thousand two hundred and forty-seven;
	39 sons of Harim, one thousand and seventeen.
	40 The Levites: sons of Jeshua, Kadmiel, Binnui, and Hodaviah, seventy-four.
	41 The singers: sons of Asaph, one hundred and twenty-eight.
	42 The gatekeepers: sons of Shallum, sons of Ater, sons of Talmon, sons of Akkub, sons of Hatita, sons of Shobai, one hundred and thirty-nine in all.
	43 The temple slaves: sons of Ziha, sons of Hasupha, sons of Tabbaoth,
	44 sons of Keros, sons of Siaha, sons of Padon,
	45 sons of Lebanah, sons of Hagabah, sons of Akkub,
	46 sons of Hagab, sons of Shamlai, sons of Hanan,
	47 sons of Giddel, sons of Gahar, sons of Reaiah,
	48 sons of Rezin, sons of Nekoda, sons of Gazzam,
	49 sons of Uzza, sons of Paseah, sons of Besai,
	50 sons of Asnah, sons of the Meunites, sons of the Nephusites,
	51 sons of Bakbuk, sons of Hakupha, sons of Harhur,
	52 sons of Bazluth, sons of Mehida, sons of Harsha,
	53 sons of Barkos, sons of Sisera, sons of Temah,
	54 sons of Neziah, sons of Hatipha.
	55 Descendants of the slaves of Solomon: sons of Sotai, sons of Hassophereth, sons of Peruda,
	56 sons of Jaalah, sons of Darkon, sons of Giddel,
	57 sons of Shephatiah, sons of Hattil, sons of Pochereth-hazzebaim, sons of Ami.
	58 The total of the temple slaves and the descendants of the slaves of Solomon was three hundred and ninety-two.
	59 The following who returned from Tel-melah, Tel-harsha, Cherub, Addan, and Immer were unable to prove that their ancestral houses and their descent were Israelite:
	60 sons of Delaiah, sons of Tobiah, sons of Nekoda, six hundred and fifty-two.
	61 Also, of the priests: sons of Habaiah, sons of Hakkoz, sons of Barzillai (he had married one of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite and became known by his name).
	62 These men searched their family records, but their names could not be found written there; hence they were degraded from the priesthood,
	63 and His Excellency ordered them not to partake of the most holy foods until there should be a priest bearing the Urim and Thummim.
	64 The entire assembly taken together came to forty-two thousand three hundred and sixty,
	65 not counting their male and female slaves, who were seven thousand three hundred and thirty-seven. They also had two hundred male and female singers.
	66 Their horses were seven hundred and thirty-six, their mules two hundred and forty-five,
	67 their camels four hundred and thirty-five, their asses six thousand seven hundred and twenty.
	68 When they arrived at the house of the LORD in Jerusalem, some of the family heads made free-will offerings for the house of God, to rebuild it in its place.
	69 According to their means they contributed to the treasury for the temple service: sixty-one thousand drachmas of gold, five thousand minas of silver, and one hundred garments for the priests.
	70 The priests, the Levites, and some of the common people took up residence in Jerusalem; but the singers, the gatekeepers, and the temple slaves dwelt in their cities. Thus all the Israelites dwelt in their cities.
