1 Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews:	1 - Poi passando per Anfipoli e per Apollonia, giunsero in Tessalonica, dove i Giudei avevano una sinagoga;
2 And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,	2 e Paolo, secondo che era sua usanza, entrò da loro, e per tre sabati ragionò con loro delle Scritture,
3 Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.	3 spiegando e persuadendo ch'era necessario che il Cristo patisse e risuscitasse dai morti: «È Gesù il Cristo ch'io vi annunzio».
4 And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.	4 E alcuni di loro credettero, e s'unirono a Paolo e Sila; come pur fecero un gran numero di proseliti e di Gentili e non poche donne nobili.
5 But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.	5 Ma gl'invidiosi Giudei, presi dalla piazza certi cattivi soggetti e fatta gente, levarono a tumulto la città; e assalita la casa di Giasone, volevano tirarli davanti al popolo.
6 And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;	6 Ma, non avendoli trovati, trascinarono Giasone e alcuni de' fratelli dinanzi a' capi della città, gridando: «Costoro mettono sottosopra il mondo, e sono venuti anche qua;
7 Whom Jason hath received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus.	7 e Giasone li ha accolti in casa! Son tutti de' ribelli a' decreti di Cesare, proclamando esserci un altro re, Gesù».
8 And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things.	8 Ed eccitarono il popolo e i magistrati della città, che udirono tali cose;
9 And when they had taken security of Jason, and of the other, they let them go.	9 e soltanto dopo ricevuta cauzione da Giasone e dagli altri, li lasciarono andare.
10 And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.	10 E i fratelli, subito nella notte, fecero partire Paolo e Sila per Berea; dove, appena giunti, andarono alla sinagoga de' Giudei.
11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.	11 Ma questi erano più arrendevoli di quelli di Tessalonica, e ricevettero premurosamente la parola, esaminando tutti i giorni le Scritture, per vedere se le cose stessero così.
12 Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few.	12 E molti di loro, come non piccol numero di donne Gentili ragguardevoli e d'uomini, credettero.
13 But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was preached of Paul at Berea, they came thither also, and stirred up the people.	13 Ma quando i Giudei di Tessalonica ebbero inteso che Paolo annunziava la parola di Dio anche in Berea, corsero anche là ad agitare ed eccitare le turbe.
14 And then immediately the brethren sent away Paul to go as it were to the sea: but Silas and Timotheus abode there still.	14 Allora i fratelli indussero Paolo a partir subito, andando verso il mare; ma Sila e Timoteo rimasero colà.
15 And they that conducted Paul brought him unto Athens: and receiving a commandment unto Silas and Timotheus for to come to him with all speed, they departed.	15 E quelli che accompagnavano Paolo, lo condussero fino ad Atene; e, ricevuto da lui l'incarico di dire a Sila e a Timoteo di raggiungerlo al più presto, se ne ritornarono.
16 Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.	16 Or mentre Paolo li aspettava in Atene, sentivasi dentro nell'anima indignato a veder la città dedita all'idolatria.
17 Therefore disputed he in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met with him.	17 Egli discuteva nella sinagoga co' Giudei e co' proseliti, e ogni giorno in piazza con chi vi trovava.
18 Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection.	18 E anche certi filosofi epicurei e stoici disputavano con lui, e alcuni dicevano: «Che vuol dire questo chiacchierone?». E altri: «Par che annunzi divinità straniere!». Egli, di fatto, annunziava Gesù e la risurrezione.
19 And they took him, and brought him unto Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new doctrine, whereof thou speakest, is?	19 Allora lo presero e lo condussero all'Areopago, dicendo: «Possiamo noi sapere che cos'è questa nuova dottrina che tu insegni?
20 For thou bringest certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean.	20 Per certo, tu ci rechi agli orecchi delle cose strane; vorremmo dunque sapere di che si tratta».
21 (For all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing.)	21 Ora, gli Ateniesi tutti e gli ospiti forestieri non badavano ad altro che a dire o ascoltare qualche cosa di nuovo.
22 Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars' hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious.	22 E Paolo, ritto in piedi in mezzo all'Areopago, disse: «Ateniesi, io veggo voi in tutto e per tutto singolarmente religiosi.
23 For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.	23 Tanto è vero, che passando e vedendo i vostri simulacri, ho trovato perfino un altare con questa iscrizione: "Al Dio ignoto". Or quello che voi onorate senza conoscerlo, quello io annunzio a voi.
24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;	24 Il Dio che ha fatto il mondo e tutto ciò che vi si trova, Signore com'è del cielo e della terra, non abita in templi fatti dalla mano dell'uomo;
25 Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;	25 e non può esser servito da mani d'uomini, quasi avesse bisogno di qualche cosa, dando egli a tutti la vita e il respiro e ogni cosa.
26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;	26 Egli fece che l'umana progenie, nata da un solo, si spandesse su tutta la faccia della terra; e ha determinato il tempo e i confini della loro dimora,
27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:	27 affinchè cerchino Dio e si sforzino di trovarlo pur andando a tastoni. E non è già ch'egli sia lontano da ciascun di noi,
28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.	28 poichè in lui abbiam la vita, il movimento e l'essere, come anche alcuni de' vostri poeti hanno detto: - Noi siamo progenie di lui. -
29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.	29 Essendo dunque noi progenie di Dio, non dobbiamo credere che all'oro, o all'argento, o alla pietra scolpita ad arte e con ingegno umano sia simile la Divinità;
30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:	30 E Dio, non tollerando più i tempi di siffatta ignoranza, fa oggi annunziare agli uomini tutti e da per tutto che facciano penitenza,
31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.	31 avendo egli stabilito il giorno, in cui giudicherà il mondo nella equità per mezzo di un uomo da lui prescelto, facendone a tutti fede con risuscitarlo da' morti».
32 And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter.	32 Sentita però la risurrezione de' morti, alcuni se ne fecero beffe; altri dissero: «Di questo t'udiremo un'altra volta».
33 So Paul departed from among them.	33 Così Paolo uscì di mezzo a loro.
34 Howbeit certain men clave unto him, and believed: among the which was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.	34 Alcuni però s'unirono a lui, e credettero; tra questi, Dionigi l'Areopagita, una donna, per nome Damaride, e altri con loro.
