Sirach 14

KING JAMES BIBLE	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 Blessed is the man that hath not slipped with his mouth, and is not pricked with the multitude of sins.	1 Feliz o homem que não pecou pelas suas palavras, e que não é atormentado pelo remorso do pecado.
2 Blessed is he whose conscience hath not condemned him, and who is not fallen from his hope in the Lord.	2 Feliz aquele cuja alma não está triste e que não está privado de esperança!
3 Riches are not comely for a niggard: and what should an envious man do with money?	3 Para o homem avarento e cúpido a riqueza é inútil; para que serve o ouro ao homem invejoso?
4 He that gathereth by defrauding his own soul gathereth for others, that shall spend his goods riotously.	4 Quem acumula injustamente, com prejuízo da vida, acumula para outros, e outro há de vir que esbanjará esses bens na devassidão.
5 He that is evil to himself, to whom will he be good? he shall not take pleasure in his goods.	5 Para quem será bom aquele que é mau para si mesmo? Não terá nenhuma satisfação em seus bens.
6 There is none worse than he that envieth himself; and this is a recompence of his wickedness.	6 Nada é pior do que aquele que é avaro consigo mesmo: eis aí o verdadeiro salário de sua maldade.
7 And if he doeth good, he doeth it unwillingly; and at the last he will declare his wickedness.	7 Se ele fizer algum bem, é inconscientemente, a seu pesar, e acaba desvendando a sua maldade.
8 The envious man hath a wicked eye; he turneth away his face, and despiseth men.	8 O olhar do invejoso é mau; ele desvia o rosto e despreza sua alma.
9 A covetous man's eye is not satisfied with his portion; and the iniquity of the wicked drieth up his soul.	9 O olhar do avarento é insaciável a respeito da iniqüidade, só ficará satisfeito quando tiver ressecado e consumido a sua alma.
10 A wicked eye envieth [his] bread, and he is a niggard at his table.	10 O olhar maldoso só leva ao mal; não será saciado com pão, mas será pobre e triste em sua própria mesa.
11 My son, according to thy ability do good to thyself, and give the Lord his due offering.	11 Meu filho, se algo tiveres, faze com isso algum bem a ti mesmo, e apresenta a Deus oferendas dignas.
12 Remember that death will not be long in coming, and that the covenant of the grave is not shewed unto thee.	12 Lembra-te de que a morte não tarda, e de que o pacto da moradia dos mortos te foi revelado, pois é lei deste mundo que é preciso morrer,
13 Do good unto thy friend before thou die, and according to thy ability stretch out thy hand and give to him.	13 Antes de morrer, faze bem ao teu amigo, e dá esmola ao pobre conforme tuas posses.
14 Defraud not thyself of the good day, and let not the part of a good desire overpass thee.	14 Não te prives de um dia feliz, e não deixes escapar nenhuma parcela do precioso dom.
15 Shalt thou not leave thy travails unto another? and thy labours to be divided by lot?	15 Não será a outrem que deixarás o fruto de teus esforços e de teus trabalhos, para ser repartido por sorte?
16 Give, and take, and sanctify thy soul; for there is no seeking of dainties in the grave.	16 Dá e recebe, e justifica a tua alma.
17 All flesh waxeth old as a garment: for the covenant from the beginning is, Thou shalt die the death.	17 Pratica a justiça, antes de tua morte, pois na moradia dos mortos não há de se achar alimento.
18 As of the green leaves on a thick tree, some fall, and some grow; so is the generation of flesh and blood, one cometh to an end, and another is born.	18 Toda carne fenece como a erva, e como a folha que cresce numa árvore vigorosa.
19 Every work rotteth and consumeth away, and the worker thereof shall go withal.	19 Umas nascem, outras caem. Assim, nesta raça de carne e sangue, uma geração morre, outra nasce.
20 Blessed is the man that doth meditate good things in wisdom, and that reasoneth of holy things by his understanding. ing.	20 Tudo o que é corruptível acabará por ser destruído, e o artesão morrerá com o seu trabalho.
21 He that considereth her ways in his heart shall also have understanding in her secrets.	21 Toda obra excelente será aprovada e o seu autor nela achará orgulho.
22 Go after her as one that traceth, and lie in wait in her ways.	22 Feliz o homem que persevera na sabedoria, que se exercita na prática da justiça, e que, em seu coração, pensa no olhar de Deus que tudo vê;
23 He that prieth in at her windows shall also hearken at her doors.	23 que repassa no seu coração os seus caminhos, que penetra no conhecimento de seus segredos, que caminha atrás dela seguindo-lhe as pegadas, e que permanece em suas vias;
24 He that doth lodge near her house shall also fasten a pin in her walls.	24 que olha pelas suas janelas, que escuta à sua porta,
25 He shall pitch his tent nigh unto her, and shall lodge in a lodging where good things are.	25 que se detém junto à sua casa e que, enterrando uma estaca dentro de suas muralhas, edifica sua cabana junto a ela. Nessa cabana, seus haveres repousam tranqüilamente para sempre;
26 He shall set his children under her shelter, and shall lodge under her branches.	26 sob esse abrigo ele estabelece os seus filhos, e ele mesmo residirá debaixo dos seus ramos.
27 By her he shall be covered from heat, and in her glory shall he dwell.	27 Em sua sombra ele encontra abrigo contra o calor, e repousará na sua glória.
