1 And Jesus went unto mount Olivet.	1 Quant à Jésus, il alla au mont des Oliviers.
2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came to him, and sitting down he taught them.	2 Mais, dès l'aurore, de nouveau il fut là dans le Temple, et tout le peuple venait à lui, et s'étant assis illes enseignait.
3 And the scribes and the Pharisees bring unto him a woman taken in adultery: and they set her in the midst,	3 Or les scribes et les Pharisiens amènent une femme surprise en adultère et, la plaçant au milieu,
4 And said to him: Master, this woman was even now taken in adultery.	4 ils disent à Jésus: "Maître, cette femme a été surprise en flagrant délit d'adultère.
5 Now Moses in the law commanded us to stone such a one. But what sayest thou?	5 Or dans la Loi Moïse nous a prescrit de lapider ces femmes-là. Toi donc, que dis-tu?"
6 And this they said tempting him, that they might accuse him. But Jesus bowing himself down, wrote with his finger on the ground.	6 Ils disaient cela pour le mettre à l'épreuve, afin d'avoir matière à l'accuser. Mais Jésus, se baissant, semit à écrire avec son doigt sur le sol.
7 When therefore they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said to them: He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.	7 Comme ils persistaient à l'interroger, il se redressa et leur dit: "Que celui d'entre vous qui est sanspéché lui jette le premier une pierre!"
8 And again stooping down, he wrote on the ground.	8 Et se baissant de nouveau, il écrivait sur le sol.
9 But they hearing this, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest. And Jesus alone remained, and the woman standing in the midst.	9 Mais eux, entendant cela, s'en allèrent un à un, à commencer par les plus vieux; et il fut laissé seul,avec la femme toujours là au milieu.
10 Then Jesus lifting up himself, said to her: Woman, where are they that accused thee? Hath no man condemned thee?	10 Alors, se redressant, Jésus lui dit: "Femme, où sont-ils? Personne ne t'a condamnée?"
11 Who said: No man, Lord. And Jesus said: Neither will I condemn thee. Go, and now sin no more.	11 Elle dit: "Personne, Seigneur." Alors Jésus dit: "Moi non plus, je ne te condamne pas. Va, désormaisne pèche plus."
12 Again therefore, Jesus spoke to them, saying: I am the light of the world: he that followeth me, walketh not in darkness, but shall have the light of life.	12 De nouveau Jésus leur adressa la parole et dit: "Je suis la lumière du monde. Qui me suit ne marcherapas dans les ténèbres, mais aura la lumière de la vie."
13 The Pharisees therefore said to him: Thou givest testimony of thyself: thy testimony is not true.	13 Les Pharisiens lui dirent alors: "Tu te rends témoignage à toi-même; ton témoignage n'est pasvalable."
14 Jesus answered, and said to them: Although I give testimony of myself, my testimony is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go: but you know not whence I come, or whither I go.	14 Jésus leur répondit: "Bien que je me rende témoignage à moi-même, mon témoignage est valable,parce que je sais d'où je suis venu et où je vais; mais vous, vous ne savez pas d'où je viens ni où je vais.
15 You judge according to the flesh: I judge not any man.	15 Vous, vous jugez selon la chair; moi, je ne juge personne;
16 And if I do judge, my judgment is true: because I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.	16 et s'il m'arrive de juger, moi, mon jugement est selon la vérité, parce que je ne suis pas seul; mais il ya moi et celui qui m'a envoyé;
17 And in your law it is written, that the testimony of two men is true.	17 et il est écrit dans votre Loi que le témoignage de deux personnes est valable.
18 I am one that give testimony of myself: and the Father that sent me giveth testimony of me.	18 Je suis à moi-même mon propre témoin, et pour moi témoigne le Père qui m'a envoyé."
19 They said therefore to him: Where is thy Father? Jesus answered: Neither me do you know, nor my Father: if you did know me, perhaps you would know my Father also.	19 Ils lui disaient donc: "Où est ton Père?" Jésus répondit: "Vous ne connaissez ni moi ni mon Père; sivous me connaissiez, vous connaîtriez aussi mon Père."
20 These words Jesus spoke in the treasury, teaching in the temple: and no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.	20 Il prononça ces paroles au Trésor, alors qu'il enseignait dans le Temple. Personne ne se saisit de lui,parce que son heure n'était pas encore venue.
21 Again therefore Jesus said to them: I go, and you shall seek me, and you shall die in your sin. Whither I go, you cannot come.	21 Jésus leur dit encore: "Je m'en vais et vous me chercherez et vous mourrez dans votre péché. Où jevais, vous ne pouvez venir."
22 The Jews therefore said: Will he kill himself, because he said: Whither I go, you cannot come?	22 Les Juifs disaient donc: "Va-t-il se donner la mort, qu'il dise: Où je vais, vous ne pouvez venir?"
23 And he said to them: You are from beneath, I am from above. You are of this world, I am not of this world.	23 Et il leur disait: "Vous, vous êtes d'en bas; moi, je suis d'en haut. Vous, vous êtes de ce monde; moi, jene suis pas de ce monde.
24 Therefore I said to you, that you shall die in your sins. For if you believe not that I am he, you shall die in your sin.	24 Je vous ai donc dit que vous mourrez dans vos péchés. Car si vous ne croyez pas que Je Suis, vousmourrez dans vos péchés."
25 They said therefore to him: Who art thou? Jesus said to them: The beginning, who also speak unto you.	25 Ils lui disaient donc: "Qui es-tu?" Jésus leur dit: "Dès le commencement ce que je vous dis.
26 Many things I have to speak and to judge of you. But he that sent me, is true: and the things I have heard of him, these same I speak in the world.	26 J'ai sur vous beaucoup à dire et à juger; mais celui qui m'a envoyé est véridique et je dis au monde ceque j'ai entendu de lui."
27 And they understood not, that he called God his Father.	27 Ils ne comprirent pas qu'il leur parlait du Père.
28 Jesus therefore said to them: When you shall have lifted up the Son of man, then shall you know, that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself, but as the Father hath taught me, these things I speak:	28 Jésus leur dit donc: "Quand vous aurez élevé le Fils de l'homme, alors vous saurez que Je Suis et queje ne fais rien de moi-même, mais je dis ce que le Père m'a enseigné,
29 And he that sent me, is with me, and he hath not left me alone: for I do always the things that please him.	29 et celui qui m'a envoyé est avec moi; il ne m'a pas laissé seul, parce que je fais toujours ce qui luiplaît."
30 When he spoke these things, many believed in him.	30 Comme il disait cela, beaucoup crurent en lui.
31 Then Jesus said to those Jews, who believed him: If you continue in my word, you shall be my disciples indeed.	31 Jésus dit alors aux Juifs qui l'avaient cru: "Si vous demeurez dans ma parole, vous êtes vraiment mesdisciples
32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.	32 et vous connaîtrez la vérité et la vérité vous libérera.
33 They answered him: We are the seed of Abraham, and we have never been slaves to any man: how sayest thou: you shall be free?	33 Ils lui répondirent: "Nous sommes la descendance d'Abraham et jamais nous n'avons été esclaves depersonne. Comment peux-tu dire: Vous deviendrez libres?"
34 Jesus answered them: Amen, amen I say unto you: that whosoever committeth sin, is the servant of sin.	34 Jésus leur répondit: "En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, quiconque commet le péché est esclave.
35 Now the servant abideth not in the house for ever; but the son abideth for ever.	35 Or l'esclave ne demeure pas à jamais dans la maison, le fils y demeure à jamais.
36 If therefore the son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.	36 Si donc le Fils vous libère, vous serez réellement libres.
37 I know that you are the children of Abraham: but you seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.	37 Je sais, vous êtes la descendance d'Abraham; mais vous cherchez à me tuer, parce que ma parole nepénètre pas en vous.
38 I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and you do the things that you have seen with your father.	38 Je dis ce que j'ai vu chez mon Père; et vous, vous faites ce que vous avez entendu auprès de votrepère."
39 They answered, and said to him: Abraham is our father. Jesus saith to them: If you be the children of Abraham, do the works of Abraham.	39 Ils lui répondirent: "Notre père, c'est Abraham." Jésus leur dit: "Si vous êtes enfants d'Abraham, faitesles oeuvres d'Abraham.
40 But now you seek to kill me, a man who have spoken the truth to you, which I have heard of God. This Abraham did not.	40 Or maintenant vous cherchez à me tuer, moi, un homme qui vous ai dit la vérité, que j'ai entendue deDieu. Cela, Abraham ne l'a pas fait!
41 You do the works of your father. They said therefore to him: We are not born of fornication: we have one Father, even God.	41 Vous faites les oeuvres de votre père." Ils lui dirent: "Nous ne sommes pas nés de la prostitution; nousn'avons qu'un seul Père: Dieu."
42 Jesus therefore said to them: If God were your Father, you would indeed love me. For from God I proceeded, and came; for I came not of myself, but he sent me:	42 Jésus leur dit: "Si Dieu était votre Père, vous m'aimeriez, car c'est de Dieu que je suis sorti et que jeviens; je ne viens pas de moi-même; mais lui m'a envoyé.
43 Why do you not know my speech? Because you cannot hear my word.	43 Pourquoi ne reconnaissez-vous pas mon langage? C'est que vous ne pouvez pas entendre ma parole.
44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and he stood not in the truth; because truth is not in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father thereof.	44 Vous êtes du diable, votre père, et ce sont les désirs de votre père que vous voulez accomplir. Il étaithomicide dès le commencement et n'était pas établi dans la vérité, parce qu'il n'y a pas de vérité en lui: quand ilprofère le mensonge, il parle de son propre fonds, parce qu'il est menteur et père du mensonge.
45 But if I say the truth, you believe me not.	45 Mais parce que je dis la vérité, vous ne me croyez pas.
46 Which of you shall convince me of sin? If I say the truth to you, why do you not believe me?	46 Qui d'entre vous me convaincra de péché? Si je dis la vérité, pourquoi ne me croyez-vous pas?
47 He that is of God, heareth the words of God. Therefore you hear them not, because you are not of God.	47 Qui est de Dieu entend les paroles de Dieu; si vous n'entendez pas, c'est que vous n'êtes pas de Dieu."
48 The Jews therefore answered, and said to him: Do not we say well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?	48 Les Juifs lui répondirent: "N'avons-nous pas raison de dire que tu es un Samaritain et que tu as undémon?"
49 Jesus answered: I have not a devil: but I honour my Father, and you have dishonoured me.	49 Jésus répondit: "Je n'ai pas un démon mais j'honore mon Père, et vous cherchez à me déshonorer.
50 But I seek not my own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.	50 Je ne cherche pas ma gloire; il est quelqu'un qui la cherche et qui juge.
51 Amen, amen I say to you: If any man keep my word, he shall not see death for ever.	51 En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, si quelqu'un garde ma parole, il ne verra jamais la mort."
52 The Jews therefore said: Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest: If any man keep my word, he shall not taste death for ever.	52 Les Juifs lui dirent: "Maintenant nous savons que tu as un démon. Abraham est mort, les prophètesaussi, et tu dis: Si quelqu'un garde ma parole, il ne goûtera jamais de la mort.
53 Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? and the prophets are dead. Whom dost thou make thyself?	53 Es-tu donc plus grand qu'Abraham, notre père, qui est mort? Les prophètes aussi sont morts. Quiprétends-tu être?"
54 Jesus answered: If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father that glorifieth me, of whom you say that he is your God.	54 Jésus répondit: "Si je me glorifie moi-même, ma gloire n'est rien; c'est mon Père qui me glorifie, luidont vous dites: Il est notre Dieu,
55 And you have not known him, but I know him. And if I shall say that I know him not, I shall be like to you, a liar. But I do know him, and do keep his word.	55 et vous ne le connaissez pas; mais moi, je le connais; et si je disais: Je ne le connais pas, je seraissemblable à vous, un menteur. Mais je le connais et je garde sa parole.
56 Abraham your father rejoiced that he might see my day: he saw it, and was glad.	56 Abraham, votre père, exulta à la pensée qu'il verrait mon Jour. Il l'a vu et fut dans la joie."
57 The Jews therefore said to him: Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?	57 Les Juifs lui dirent alors: "Tu n'as pas 50 ans, et tu as vu Abraham!"
58 Jesus said to them: Amen, amen I say to you, before Abraham was made, I am.	58 Jésus leur dit: "En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, avant qu'Abraham existât, Je Suis."
59 They took up stones therefore to cast at him. But Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple.	59 Ils ramassèrent alors des pierres pour les lui jeter; mais Jésus se déroba et sortit du Temple.
