Deuteronomy 18

1 The priests and Levites, and all that are of the same tribe, shall have no part nor inheritance with the rest of Israel, because they shall eat the sacrifices of the Lord, and his oblations,	1 - I sacerdoti e i leviti, e tutti quelli della loro tribù, non avranno parte o possessione come il rimanente popolo d'Israele, perchè vivono dei sacrifizi e delle offerte del Signore;
2 And they shall receive nothing else. of the possession of their brethren: for the Lord himself is their inheritance, as he hath said to them.	2 perciò, non riceveranno altro di sulle terre de' loro fratelli; il Signore stesso è la loro eredità, come ha detto loro.
3 This shall be the priest's due from the people, and from them that offer victims: whether they sacrifice an ox, or a sheep, they shall give to the priest the shoulder and the breast:	3 Questo è il diritto de' sacerdoti sul popolo, e su quelli che offrono sacrifizi: sia che immolino un bove o una pecora, daranno al sacerdote la spalla ed il ventricolo,
4 The firstfruits also of corn, of wine, and of oil, and a part of the wool from the shearing of their sheep.	4 le primizie del grano, del vino e dell'olio, e la parte sulla lana alla tosatura delle pecore.
5 For the Lord thy God hath chosen him of all thy tribes, to stand and to minister to the name of the Lord, him and his sons for ever.	5 Lui infatti elesse il Signore Dio tuo di fra tutte le sue tribù, perchè stia a servire il nome del Signore, egli ed i figli suoi in perpetuo.
6 If a Levite go out of any one of the cities throughout all Israel, in which he dwelleth, and have a longing mind to come to the place which the Lord shall choose,	6 Se un levita uscirà da una delle città che sono destinate in tutto Israele a sua abitazione, e per amore al luogo che il Signore avrà eletto vorrà venirvi,
7 He shall minister in the name of the Lord his God, as all his brethren the Levites do, that shall stand at that time before the Lord.	7 presterà servizio nel nome del Signore Dio suo, come tutti gli altri suoi fratelli leviti che staranno allora dinanzi al Signore.
8 He shall receive the same portion of food that the rest do: besides that which is due to him in his own city, by succession from his fathers.	8 Riceverà sui sacrifizi la stessa parte che gli altri, non contando quello che nella sua città gli spetta dell'eredità di suo padre.
9 When thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God shall give thee, beware lest thou have a mind to imitate the abominations of those nations.	9 Quando sarai entrato nella terra che il Signore Dio tuo ti darà, guardati dall'imitare le abominazioni di que' popoli.
10 Neither let there be found among you any one that shall expiate his son or daughter, making them to pass through the fire: or that consulteth soothsayers, or observeth dreams and omens, neither let there be any wizard,	10 Non si trovi in te chi pretenda purificar il figlio suo o la figlia facendoli passar per il fuoco, o chi interroghi gli stregoni, o guardi ai sogni ed ai presagi; non vi sia chi faccia sortilegi
11 Nor charmer, nor any one that consulteth pythonic spirits, or fortune tellers, or that seeketh the truth from the dead.	11 o incantesimi, nè chi consulti i maghi o gl'indovini, o cerchi sapere dai morti la verità.
12 For the Lord abhorreth all these things, and for these abominations he will destroy them at thy coming.	12 Tutte queste cose, il Signore le ha in abominazione, e per queste tali scelleratezze distruggerà quei popoli al tuo arrivo.
13 Thou shalt be perfect, and without spot before the Lord thy God.	13 Sarai senza colpa e senza macchia rispetto al Signore Dio tuo.
14 These nations, whose land thou shalt possess, hearken to soothsayers and diviners: but thou art otherwise instructed by the Lord thy God.	14 Queste nazioni, la cui terra tu possederai, dan retta agli aùguri ed agl'indovini; ma tu fosti educato ben altrimenti dal Signore Dio tuo.
15 The Lord thy God will raise up to thee a PROPHET of thy nation and of thy brethren like unto me: him thou shalt hear:	15 Il Signore Dio tuo susciterà per te un profeta della tua nazione e de' tuoi fratelli, come me. Lui ascolta,
16 As thou desiredst of the Lord thy God in Horeb, when the assembly was gathered together, and saidst: Let me not hear any more the voice of the Lord my God, neither let me see any more this exceeding great fire, lest I die.	16 come chiedesti al Signore Dio tuo sull'Horeb, quand'era convocata l'assemblea, e dicesti: - Non ascolterò più la voce del Signore Dio mio, nè vedrò più questo sì gran fuoco, per non morirne. -
17 And the Lord said to me: They have spoken all things well.	17 Ed il Signore mi disse: - Hanno parlato bene in tutto.
18 m I will raise them up a prophet out of the midst of their brethren like to thee: and I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I shall command him.	18 Farò sorgere per loro, di mezzo ai loro fratelli, un profeta simile a te; porrò nella sua bocca le mie parole, e dirà ad essi tutto quello che io comanderò.
19 And he that will not hear his words, which he shall speak in my name, I will be the revenger.	19 Se qualcuno non vorrà dar ascolto alle parole ch'egli dirà in nome mio, ne farò io la vendetta.
20 But the prophet, who being corrupted with pride, shall speak in my name things that I did not command him to say, or in the name of strange gods, shall be slain.	20 Il profeta poi che pieno di prava arroganza vorrà dire nel nome mio quel ch'io non gli ho comandato di dire, o [lo dirà] nel nome di dèi stranieri, sarà messo a morte. -
21 And if in silent thought thou answer: How shall I know the word that the Lord hath not spoken?	21 Che se dentro di te tu dirai: - Come posso io riconoscere esser quello un discorso che il Signore non ha pronunziato? -
22 Thou shalt have this sign: Whatsoever that same prophet foretelleth in the name of the Lord, and it cometh not to pass: that thing the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath forged it by the pride of his mind: and therefore thou shalt not fear him.	22 avrai questo segno: quello che tal profeta abbia predetto nel nome del Signore, e non si sia poi avverato, non l'aveva già detto il Signore, ma se l'era inventato nella sua superbia quel profeta; perciò non ne avrai timore.
