Hosea 8

1 Let there be a trumpet in thy throat like an eagle upon the house of the Lord: because they have transgressed my covenant, and have violated my law.	1 Приклади сурму до твого рота, — мов сторож Господнього дому, за те, що вони порушили союз мій і від закону мого відступили.
2 They shall call upon me: O my God, we, Israel, know thee.	2 Вони взиватимуть до мене; «Боже мій, ми ж тебе знаємо, ми — Ізраїль!»
3 Israel hath cast off the thing that is good, the enemy shall pursue him.	3 Ізраїль добро геть відкинув, ворог буде за ним гонитися.
4 They have reigned, but not by me: they have been princes, and I knew not: of their silver, and their gold they have made idols to themselves, that they might perish.	4 Вони царів настановили, та не від мене; князів собі робили, а я про те не відав.
5 Thy calf, O Samaria, is cast off, my wrath is kindled against them. How long will they be incapable of being cleansed ?	5 Твого бичка, о Самаріє, я відкинув; гнів мій на них палає; докіль вони очиститись не зможуть?
6 For itself also is the invention of Israel: a workman made it, and it is no god: for the calf of Samaria shall be turned to spiders' webs.	6 Бо він від Ізраїля походить: то ремісник зробив його і він — не Бог. На тріски розлетиться бичок самарійський.
7 For they shall sow wind, and reap a whirlwind, there is no standing stalk in it, the bud shall yield no meal; end if it should yield, strangers shall eat it.	7 Вони бо сіють вітер і пожнуть бурю: на їхньому стеблі нема колосся, муки воно не вродить; а як і вродить, то чужі його поглинуть.
8 Israel is swallowed up: now is he become among the nations like an unclean vessel.	8 Поглинутий Ізраїль! Тепер він став поміж народами, немов посудина безвартна.
9 For they are gone up to Assyria, a wild ass alone by himself: Ephraim hath given gifts to his lovers.	9 Вони бо пішли до Ашшура, — немов дикий осел, самітний, одинокий — Ефраїм найняв собі коханців.
10 But even though they shall have hired the nations, now will I gather them together: and they shall rest a while from the burden of the king, and the princes.	10 Та хоч вони поміж народами їх наймуть, я їх тепер зберу докупи і вони почнуть зменшуватись від тягару царя та князів.
11 Because Ephraim hath made many altars to sin: altars are become to him unto sin.	11 Ефраїм намножив собі жертовників, щоб грішити; жертовники й були для нього, щоб грішити.
12 I shall write to him my manifold laws, which have been accounted as foreign.	12 Хоч би я написав йому і тьму моїх законів, — вони б їх за щось чуже вважали!
13 They shall offer victims, they shall sacrifice flesh, and shall eat it, and the Lord will not receive them: now will he remember their iniquity, and will visit their sins: they shall return to Egypt.	13 Їм жертви довподоби. Нехай жертвують м’ясо й споживають! А Господові вони не вгодні. Тепер він пригадає їхню несправедливість і за гріхи їх покарає: вони повернуться у Єгипет.
14 And Israel hath forgotten his Maker, and hath built temples: and Juda hath built many fenced cities: and I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the houses thereof.	14 Ізраїль бо Творця свого забув, палаців собі набудував. Та й Юда намножив укріплених міст; та я пошлю вогонь на його міста, й він пожере його твердині.
