A psalm for David. Rejoice in the Lord, O ye just: praise becometh the upright.1 Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous! Praise befits the upright.
Give praise to the Lord on the harp; sing to him with the psaltery, the instrument of ten strings.2 Praise the LORD with the lyre, make melody to him with the harp of ten strings!
Sing to him a new canticle, sing well unto him with a loud noise.3 Sing to him a new song, play skilfully on the strings, with loud shouts.
For the word of the Lord is right, and all his works are done with faithfulness.4 For the word of the LORD is upright; and all his work is done in faithfulness.
He loveth mercy and judgment; the earth is full of the mercy of the Lord.5 He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the LORD.
By the word of the Lord the heavens were established; and all the power of them by the spirit of his mouth:6 By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and all their host by the breath of his mouth.
Gathering together the waters of the sea, as in a vessel; laying up the depths in storehouses.7 He gathered the waters of the sea as in a bottle; he put the deeps in storehouses.
Let all the earth fear the Lord, and let all the inhabitants of the world be in awe of him.8 Let all the earth fear the LORD, let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him!
For he spoke and they were made: he commanded and they were created.9 For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood forth.
The Lord bringeth to naught the counsels of nations; and he rejecteth the devices of people, and casteth away the counsels of princes.10 The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nought; he frustrates the plans of the peoples.
But the counsel of the Lord standeth for ever: the thoughts of his heart to all generations.11 The counsel of the LORD stands for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord: the people whom he hath chosen for his inheritance.12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!
The Lord hath looked from heaven: he hath beheld all the sons of men.13 The LORD looks down from heaven, he sees all the sons of men;
From his habitation which he hath prepared, he hath looked upon all that dwell on the earth.14 from where he sits enthroned he looks forth on all the inhabitants of the earth,
He who hath made the hearts of every one of them: who understandeth all their works.15 he who fashions the hearts of them all, and observes all their deeds.
The king is not saved by a great army: nor shall the giant be saved by his own great strength.16 A king is not saved by his great army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength.
Vain is the horse for safety: neither shall he be saved by the abundance of his strength.17 The war horse is a vain hope for victory, and by its great might it cannot save.
Behold the eyes of the Lord are on them that fear him: and on them that hope in his mercy.18 Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love,
To deliver their souls from death; and feed them in famine.19 that he may deliver their soul from death, and keep them alive in famine.
Our soul waiteth for the Lord: for he is our helper and protector.20 Our soul waits for the LORD; he is our help and shield.
For in him our heart shall rejoice: and in his holy name we have trusted.21 Yea, our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name.
Let thy mercy, O Lord, be upon us, as we have hoped in thee.22 Let thy steadfast love, O LORD, be upon us, even as we hope in thee.
