1 En efecto, este Melquisedec, rey de Salem, sacerdote de Dios Altísimo, que salió al encuentro de Abraham cuando regresaba de la derrota de los reyes, y le bendijo,	1 For this Melchisedech was king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him:
2 al cual dio Abraham el diezmo de todo, y cuyo nombre significa, en primer lugar, «rey de justicia» y, además, rey de Salem, es decir, «rey de paz»,	2 To whom also Abraham divided the tithes of all: who first indeed by interpretation, is king of justice: and then also king of Salem, that is, king of peace:
3 sin padre, ni madre, ni genealogía, sin comienzo de días, ni fin de vida, asemejado al Hijo de Dios, permanece sacerdote para siempre.	3 Without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but likened unto the Son of God, continueth a priest for ever.
4 Mirad ahora cuán grande es éste, a quien el mismo Patriarca Abraham dio el diezmo de entre lo mejor del botín.	4 Now consider how great this man is, to whom also Abraham the patriarch gave tithes out of the principal things.
5 Es cierto que los hijos de Leví que reciben el sacerdocio tienen orden según la Ley de percibir el diezmo del pueblo, es decir, de sus hermanos, aunque también proceden éstos de la estirpe de Abraham;	5 And indeed they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is to say, of their brethren: though they themselves also came out of the loins of Abraham.
6 mas aquél, sin pertenecer a su genealogía, recibió el diezmo de Abraham, y bendijo al que tenía las promesas.	6 But he, whose pedigree is not numbered among them, received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises.
7 Pues bien, es incuestionable que el inferior recibe la bendición del superior.	7 And without all contradiction, that which is less, is blessed by the better.
8 Y aquí, ciertamente, reciben el diezmo hombres mortales; pero allí, uno de quien se asegura que vive.	8 And here indeed, men that die, receive thithes: but there he hath witness, that he liveth.
9 Y, en cierto modo, hasta el mismo Leví, que percibe los diezmos, los pagó por medio de Abraham,	9 And (as it may be said) even Levi who received tithes, paid tithes in Abraham:
10 pues ya estaba en las entrañas de su padre cuando Melquisedec le salió al encuentro.	10 For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedech met him.
11 Pues bien, si la perfección estuviera en poder del sacerdocio levítico - pues sobre él descansa la Ley dada al pueblo -, ¿qué necesidad había ya de que surgiera otro sacerdote a semejanza de Melquisedec, y no «a semejanza de Aaron»?	11 If then perfection was by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise according to the order of Melchisedech, and not be called according to the order of Aaron?
12 Porque, cambiado el sacerdocio, necesariamente se cambia la Ley.	12 For the priesthood being translated, it is necessary that a translation also be made of the law.
13 Pues aquel de quien se dicen estas cosas, pertenecía a otra tribu, de la cual nadie sirvió al altar.	13 For he, of whom these things are spoken, is of another tribe, of which no one attended on the altar.
14 Y es bien manifiesto que nuestro Señor procedía de Judá, y a esa tribu para nada se refirió Moisés al hablar del sacerdocio.	14 For it is evident that our Lord sprung out of Juda: in which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priests.
15 Todo esto es mucho más evidente aún si surge otro sacerdote a semejanza de Melquisedec,	15 And it is yet far more evident: if according to the similitude of Melchisedech there ariseth another priest,
16 que lo sea, no por ley de prescripción carnal, sino según la fuerza de una vida indestructible.	16 Who is made not according to the law of a carnal commandment, but according to the power of an indissoluble life:
17 De hecho, está atestiguado: Tú eres sacerdote para siempre, a semejanza de Melquisedec.	17 For he testifieth: Thou art a priest for ever, according to the order of Melchisedech.
18 De este modo queda abrogada la ordenación precedente, por razón de su ineficacia e inutilidad,	18 There is indeed a setting aside of the former commandment, because of the weakness and unprofitableness thereof:
19 ya que la Ley no llevó nada a la perfección, pues no era más que introducción a una esperanza mejor, por la cual nos acercamos a Dios.	19 (For the law brought nothing to perfection,) but a bringing in of a better hope, by which we draw nigh to God.
20 Y por cuanto no fue sin juramento - pues los otros fueron hechos sacerdotes sin juramento,	20 And inasmuch as it is not without an oath, (for the others indeed were made priests without an oath;
21 mientras éste lo fue bajo juramento por Aquel que le dijo: «Juró el Señor y no se arrepentirá: Tú eres sacerdote para siempre» -	21 But this with an oath, by him that said unto him: The Lord hath sworn, and he will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever.)
22 por eso, de una mejor Alianza resultó fiador Jesús.	22 By so much is Jesus made a surety of a better testament.
23 Además, aquellos sacerdotes fueron muchos, porque la muerte les impedía perdurar.	23 And the others indeed were made many priests, because by reason of death they were not suffered to continue:
24 Pero éste posee un sacerdocio perpetuo porque permanece para siempre.	24 But this, for that he continueth for ever, hath an everlasting priesthood,
25 De ahí que pueda también salvar perfectamente a los que por él se llegan a Dios, ya que está siempre vivo para interceder en su favor.	25 Whereby he is able also to save for ever them that come to God by him; always living to make intercession for us.
26 Así es el Sumo Sacerdote que nos convenía: santo, inocente, incontaminado, apartado de los pecadores, encumbrado por encima de los cielos,	26 For it was fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;
27 que no tiene necesidad de ofrecer sacrificios cada día, primero por sus pecados propios como aquellos Sumos Sacerdotes, luego por los del pueblo: y esto lo realizó de una vez para siempre, ofreciéndose a sí mismo.	27 Who needeth not daily (as the other priests) to offer sacrifices first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, in offering himself.
28 Es que la Ley instituye Sumos Sacerdotes a hombres frágiles: pero la palabra del juramento, posterior a la Ley, hace el Hijo perfecto para siempre.	28 For the law maketh men priests, who have infirmity: but the word of the oath, which was since the law, the Son who is perfected for evermore.
