Joel 1

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Palabra de Yahveh que fue dirigida a Joel, hijo de Petuel.	1 The word of Yahweh that was addressed to Joel son of Pethuel.
2 ¡Oíd esto, ancianos, prestad oído, habitantes todos de la tierra! ¿Sucedió algo semejante en vuestros días, o en los días de vuestros padres?	2 Listen to this, you elders; everybody in the country, attend! Has anything like this ever happened in yourday, or in your ancestors' days?
3 Contádselo a vuestros hijos, y vuestros hijos a sus hijos, y sus hijos a la otra generación.	3 Tell your children about it and let your children tel their children, and their children the next generation!
4 Lo que dejó la oruga lo devoró la langosta, lo que dejó la langosta lo devoró el pulgón, lo que dejó el pulgón lo devoró el saltón.	4 What the nibbler has left, the grown locust has eaten, what the grown locust has left, the hopper haseaten, and what the hopper has left, the shearer has eaten.
5 ¡Despertad, borrachos, y llorad, gemid todos los bebedores de vino, por el licor que se os ha quitado de la boca!	5 Wake up, you drunkards, and weep! All you wine-bibbers, lament for the new wine: it has beensnatched from your lips.
6 Porque una nación ha subido contra mi tierra, fuerte e innumerable: sus dientes son dientes de león, y tienen muelas de leona.	6 For a nation has invaded my country, mighty and innumerable, with teeth like a lion's teeth, with thefangs of a lioness.
7 En desolación ha dejado mi viña, destrozada mi higuera: la ha pelado del todo y derribado, y sus ramas han quedado blancas.	7 It has reduced my vines to a desolation and my fig trees to splinters, stripped them and broken themdown, leaving their branches white.
8 ¡Suspira tú como virgen ceñida de sayal por el esposo de su juventud!	8 Mourn, as a virgin-bride in sackcloth for the bridegroom of her youth!
9 Oblación y libación han sido arrancadas de la Casa de Yahveh. En duelo están los sacerdotes, los ministros de Yahveh.	9 Cereal offering and libation are lost to Yahweh's Temple. The priests, the ministers of Yahweh, are inmourning.
10 El campo ha sido arrasado, en duelo está el suelo, porque el grano ha sido arrasado, ha faltado el mosto, y el aceite virgen se ha agotado.	10 The fields are ruined, the land is in mourning, for the grain has been ruined, the new wine has failed, ofolive oil only a trickle.
11 ¡Consternaos, labradores, gemid, viñadores, por el trigo y la cebada, porque se ha perdido la cosecha del campo!	11 Stand dismayed, you farmers, wail, you vinedressers, for the wheat, for the barley! The harvest of thefields has been lost!
12 Se ha secado la viña, se ha amustiado la higuera, granado, palmera, manzano, todos los árboles del campo están secos. ¡Sí, se ha secado la alegría de entre los hijos de hombre!	12 The vine has withered, the fig tree wilts away; pomegranate, palm tree, apple tree, every tree in thecountryside is dry, and for human beings joy has run dry too.
13 ¡Ceñíos y plañid, sacerdotes, gemid, ministros del altar; venid, pasad la noche en sayal, ministros de mi Dios, porque a la Casa de vuestro Dios se le ha negado oblación y libación!	13 Priests, put on sackcloth and lament! You ministers of the altar, wail! Come here, lie in sackcloth alnight long, you ministers of my God! For the Temple of your God has been deprived of cereal offering andlibation.
14 Promulgad un ayuno, llamad a concejo, reuníos, ancianos, y vosotros todos, habitantes de la tierra, en la Casa de Yahveh, vuestro Dios, y clamad a Yahveh:	14 Order a fast, proclaim a solemn assembly; you elders, summon everybody in the country to theTemple of Yahweh your God. Cry out to Yahweh:
15 «¡Ay, el Día, que está cerca el Día de Yahveh, ya llega como devastación de Sadday!»	15 'Alas for the day! For the Day of Yahweh is near, coming as destruction from Shaddai.'
16 ¿No ha sido arrancada la comida de delante de nuestros ojos, y de la Casa de nuestro Dios la alegría y el júbilo?	16 Has not the food disappeared before our very eyes? Have not joy and gladness vanished from theTemple of our God?
17 Se han podrido los granos bajo los terrones; los graneros han sido devastados, derruidos los silos, porque falta el grano.	17 The seeds shrivel under their clods; the granaries are deserted, the barns are in ruins, because theharvest has dried out.
18 ¡Cómo muge el ganado, cómo vagan sin rumbo los rebaños de vacas, porque no hay pastor para ellos! ¡Hasta los rebaños de ovejas tienen que expiar!	18 Loudly the cattle groan! The herds of oxen are bewildered because they have no pasture. The flocks ofsheep bear the punishment too.
19 A ti clamo, Yahveh, porque el fuego ha devorado los pastizales del desierto, la llama ha abrasado todos los árboles del campo.	19 Yahweh, to you I cry: for fire has devoured the desert pastures, flame has burnt up all the trees in thecountryside.
20 Hasta las bestias del campo jadean tras de ti, porque están secas las corrientes de agua, y el fuego ha devorado los pastizales del desierto.	20 Even the wild animals pant loudly for you, for the watercourses have run dry, and fire has devoured thedesert pastures.
