1 וְאֶת־בֵּיתֹו בָּנָה שְׁלֹמֹה שְׁלֹשׁ עֶשְׂרֵה שָׁנָה וַיְכַל אֶת־כָּל־בֵּיתֹו | 1 As regards his palace, Solomon spent thirteen years on it before the building was completed. |
2 וַיִּבֶן אֶת־בֵּית ׀ יַעַר הַלְּבָנֹון מֵאָה אַמָּה אָרְכֹּו וַחֲמִשִּׁים אַמָּה רָחְבֹּו וּשְׁלֹשִׁים אַמָּה קֹומָתֹו עַל אַרְבָּעָה טוּרֵי עַמּוּדֵי אֲרָזִים וּכְרֻתֹות אֲרָזִים עַל־הָעַמּוּדִים | 2 He built the House of the Forest of Lebanon, a hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide, and thirty cubitshigh, on four rows of cedar-wood pil ars, |
3 וְסָפֻן בָּאֶרֶז מִמַּעַל עַל־הַצְּלָעֹת אֲשֶׁר עַל־הָעַמּוּדִים אַרְבָּעִים וַחֲמִשָּׁה חֲמִשָּׁה עָשָׂר הַטּוּר | 3 with lengths of cedar wood laid horizontal y on the pil ars. The upper part was panel ed with cedar rightdown to the tie-beams on forty-five pillars, fifteen in each row. |
4 וּשְׁקֻפִים שְׁלֹשָׁה טוּרִים וּמֶחֱזָה אֶל־מֶחֱזָה שָׁלֹשׁ פְּעָמִים | 4 There were three rows of window-frames, with the windows corresponding to one another at threelevels. |
5 וְכָל־הַפְּתָחִים וְהַמְּזוּזֹות רְבֻעִים שָׁקֶף וּמוּל מֶחֱזָה אֶל־מֶחֱזָה שָׁלֹשׁ פְּעָמִים | 5 Al the doorways and windows were rectangular, with the windows corresponding to one another atthree levels. |
6 וְאֵת אוּלָם הָעַמּוּדִים עָשָׂה חֲמִשִּׁים אַמָּה אָרְכֹּו וּשְׁלֹשִׁים אַמָּה רָחְבֹּו וְאוּלָם עַל־פְּנֵיהֶם וְעַמֻּדִים וְעָב עַל־פְּנֵיהֶם | 6 He also made the Colonnade, fifty cubits long and thirty cubits broad, with a cornice in front. |
7 וְאוּלָם הַכִּסֵּא אֲשֶׁר יִשְׁפָּט־שָׁם אֻלָם הַמִּשְׁפָּט עָשָׂה וְסָפוּן בָּאֶרֶז מֵהַקַּרְקַע עַד־הַקַּרְקָע | 7 He also made the Hal of the Throne where he used to dispense justice, that is, the Hal of Justice; it waspanel ed in cedar from floor to beams. |
8 וּבֵיתֹו אֲשֶׁר־יֵשֶׁב שָׁם חָצֵר הָאַחֶרֶת מִבֵּית לָאוּלָם כַּמַּעֲשֶׂה הַזֶּה הָיָה וּבַיִת יַעֲשֶׂה לְבַת־פַּרְעֹה אֲשֶׁר לָקַח שְׁלֹמֹה כָּאוּלָם הַזֶּה | 8 His own living quarters, in the other court and inwards from the Hal , were of the same construction. Andthere was a house similar to this Hal for Pharaoh's daughter whom he had taken in marriage. |
9 כָּל־אֵלֶּה אֲבָנִים יְקָרֹת כְּמִדֹּת גָּזִית מְגֹרָרֹות בַּמְּגֵרָה מִבַּיִת וּמִחוּץ וּמִמַּסָּד עַד־הַטְּפָחֹות וּמִחוּץ עַד־הֶחָצֵר הַגְּדֹולָה | 9 Al these buildings were of special stones cut to measure, trimmed on the inner and outer sides with thesaw, from the foundations to the coping- |
10 וּמְיֻסָּד אֲבָנִים יְקָרֹות אֲבָנִים גְּדֹלֹות אַבְנֵי עֶשֶׂר אַמֹּות וְאַבְנֵי שְׁמֹנֶה אַמֹּות | 10 the foundations were of special stones, huge stones, of ten and eight cubits, |
11 וּמִלְמַעְלָה אֲבָנִים יְקָרֹות כְּמִדֹּות גָּזִית וָאָרֶז | 11 and, above these, special stones, cut to measure, and cedar wood- |
12 וְחָצֵר הַגְּדֹולָה סָבִיב שְׁלֹשָׁה טוּרִים גָּזִית וְטוּר כְּרֻתֹת אֲרָזִים וְלַחֲצַר בֵּית־יְהוָה הַפְּנִימִית וּלְאֻלָם הַבָּיִת׃ פ | 12 and, on the outside, the great court had three courses of dressed stone round it and one course ofcedar beams; so also had the inner court of the Temple of Yahweh and the vestibule of the Temple. |
13 וַיִּשְׁלַח הַמֶּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה וַיִּקַּח אֶת־חִירָם מִצֹּר | 13 King Solomon sent for Hiram of Tyre; |
14 בֶּן־אִשָּׁה אַלְמָנָה הוּא מִמַּטֵּה נַפְתָּלִי וְאָבִיו אִישׁ־צֹרִי חֹרֵשׁ נְחֹשֶׁת וַיִּמָּלֵא אֶת־הַחָכְמָה וְאֶת־הַתְּבוּנָה וְאֶת־הַדַּעַת לַעֲשֹׂות כָּל־מְלָאכָה בַּנְּחֹשֶׁת וַיָּבֹוא אֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה וַיַּעַשׂ אֶת־כָּל־מְלַאכְתֹּו | 14 he was the son of a widow of the tribe of Naphtali, but his father had been a Tyrian, a bronzeworker.He was a highly intel igent craftsman, skil ed in al types of bronzework. He came to King Solomon and did althis work for him. |
15 וַיָּצַר אֶת־שְׁנֵי הָעַמּוּדִים נְחֹשֶׁת שְׁמֹנֶה עֶשְׂרֵה אַמָּה קֹומַת הָעַמּוּד הָאֶחָד וְחוּט שְׁתֵּים־עֶשְׂרֵה אַמָּה יָסֹב אֶת־הָעַמּוּד הַשֵּׁנִי | 15 He cast the two bronze pillars; the height of one pil ar was eighteen cubits, and a cord twelve cubitslong gave the measurement of its girth; so also was the second pil ar. |
16 וּשְׁתֵּי כֹתָרֹת עָשָׂה לָתֵת עַל־רָאשֵׁי הָעַמּוּדִים מֻצַק נְחֹשֶׁת חָמֵשׁ אַמֹּות קֹומַת הַכֹּתֶרֶת הָאֶחָת וְחָמֵשׁ אַמֹּות קֹומַת הַכֹּתֶרֶת הַשֵּׁנִית | 16 He made two capitals of cast bronze for the tops of the pil ars; the height of one capital was five cubits,and the height of the other five cubits. |
17 שְׂבָכִים מַעֲשֵׂה שְׂבָכָה גְּדִלִים מַעֲשֵׂה שַׁרְשְׁרֹות לַכֹּתָרֹת אֲשֶׁר עַל־רֹאשׁ הָעַמּוּדִים שִׁבְעָה לַכֹּתֶרֶת הָאֶחָת וְשִׁבְעָה לַכֹּתֶרֶת הַשֵּׁנִית | 17 He made two sets of filigree to cover the moulding of the two capitals surmounting the pil ars, onefiligree for one capital and one filigree for the other. |
18 וַיַּעַשׂ אֶת־הָעַמּוּדִים וּשְׁנֵי טוּרִים סָבִיב עַל־הַשְּׂבָכָה הָאֶחָת לְכַסֹּות אֶת־הַכֹּתָרֹת אֲשֶׁר עַל־רֹאשׁ הָרִמֹּנִים וְכֵן עָשָׂה לַכֹּתֶרֶת הַשֵּׁנִית | 18 He also made pomegranates: two rows of them round each filigree,four hundred in al , |
19 וְכֹתָרֹת אֲשֶׁר עַל־רֹאשׁ הָעַמּוּדִים מַעֲשֵׂה שׁוּשַׁן בָּאוּלָם אַרְבַּע אַמֹּות | 19 The capitals surrounding the pil ars were lily-shaped. |
20 וְכֹתָרֹת עַל־שְׁנֵי הָעַמּוּדִים גַּם־מִמַּעַל מִלְּעֻמַּת הַבֶּטֶן אֲשֶׁר לְעֵבֶר [שְׂבָכָה כ] (הַשְּׂבָכָה ק) וְהָרִמֹּונִים מָאתַיִם טֻרִים סָבִיב עַל הַכֹּתֶרֶת הַשֵּׁנִית | 20 applied on the raised moulding behind the filigree; there were two hundred pomegranates round onecapital and the same round the other capital. |
21 וַיָּקֶם אֶת־הָעַמֻּדִים לְאֻלָם הַהֵיכָל וַיָּקֶם אֶת־הָעַמּוּד הַיְמָנִי וַיִּקְרָא אֶת־שְׁמֹו יָכִין וַיָּקֶם אֶת־הָעַמּוּד הַשְּׂמָאלִי וַיִּקְרָא אֶת־שְׁמֹו בֹּעַז | 21 He erected the pil ars in front of the portico of the Temple, he erected the right-hand pil ar and named itJachin; he erected the left-hand pil ar and named it Boaz. |
22 וְעַל רֹאשׁ הָעַמּוּדִים מַעֲשֵׂה שֹׁושָׁן וַתִּתֹּם מְלֶאכֶת הָעַמּוּדִים | 22 Thus, the work on the pillars was completed. |
23 וַיַּעַשׂ אֶת־הַיָּם מוּצָק עֶשֶׂר בָּאַמָּה מִשְּׂפָתֹו עַד־שְׂפָתֹו עָגֹל ׀ סָבִיב וְחָמֵשׁ בָּאַמָּה קֹומָתֹו [וּקְוֵה כ] (וְקָו ק) שְׁלֹשִׁים בָּאַמָּה יָסֹב אֹתֹו סָבִיב | 23 He made the Sea of cast metal, ten cubits from rim to rim, circular in shape and five cubits high; a cordthirty cubits long gave the measurement of its girth. |
24 וּפְקָעִים מִתַּחַת לִשְׂפָתֹו ׀ סָבִיב סֹבְבִים אֹתֹו עֶשֶׂר בָּאַמָּה מַקִּפִים אֶת־הַיָּם סָבִיב שְׁנֵי טוּרִים הַפְּקָעִים יְצֻקִים בִּיצֻקָתֹו | 24 Under its rim and completely encircling it were gourds surrounding the Sea; over a length of thirtycubits the gourds were in two rows, of one and the same casting with the rest. |
25 עֹמֵד עַל־שְׁנֵי עָשָׂר בָּקָר שְׁלֹשָׁה פֹנִים ׀ צָפֹונָה וּשְׁלֹשָׁה פֹנִים ׀ יָמָּה וּשְׁלֹשָׁה ׀ פֹּנִים נֶגְבָּה וּשְׁלֹשָׁה פֹּנִים מִזְרָחָה וְהַיָּם עֲלֵיהֶם מִלְמָעְלָה וְכָל־אֲחֹרֵיהֶם בָּיְתָה | 25 It rested on twelve oxen, three facing north, three facing west, three facing south, three facing east; onthese, their hindquarters al turned inwards, stood the Sea. |
26 וְעָבְיֹו טֶפַח וּשְׂפָתֹו כְּמַעֲשֵׂה שְׂפַת־כֹּוס פֶּרַח שֹׁושָׁן אַלְפַּיִם בַּת יָכִיל׃ פ | 26 It was a hand's breadth in thickness, and its rim was shaped like the rim of a cup, lily-shaped. It couldhold two thousand measures. |
27 וַיַּעַשׂ אֶת־הַמְּכֹנֹות עֶשֶׂר נְחֹשֶׁת אַרְבַּע בָּאַמָּה אֹרֶךְ הַמְּכֹונָה הָאֶחָת וְאַרְבַּע בָּאַמָּה רָחְבָּהּ וְשָׁלֹשׁ בָּאַמָּה קֹומָתָהּ | 27 He made the ten bronze stands; each stand was four cubits long, four cubits wide, and three high. |
28 וְזֶה מַעֲשֵׂה הַמְּכֹונָה מִסְגְּרֹת לָהֶם וּמִסְגְּרֹת בֵּין הַשְׁלַבִּים | 28 They were designed as fol ows; they had an undercarriage and crosspieces to the undercarriage. |
29 וְעַל־הַמִּסְגְּרֹות אֲשֶׁר ׀ בֵּין הַשְׁלַבִּים אֲרָיֹות ׀ בָּקָר וּכְרוּבִים וְעַל־הַשְׁלַבִּים כֵּן מִמָּעַל וּמִתַּחַת לַאֲרָיֹות וְלַבָּקָר לֹיֹות מַעֲשֵׂה מֹורָד | 29 On the crosspieces of the undercarriage were lions and bul s and winged creatures, and on top of theundercarriage was a support; under the lions and oxen there were scrolls in the style of. . . |
30 וְאַרְבָּעָה אֹופַנֵּי נְחֹשֶׁת לַמְּכֹונָה הָאַחַת וְסַרְנֵי נְחֹשֶׁת וְאַרְבָּעָה פַעֲמֹתָיו כְּתֵפֹת לָהֶם מִתַּחַת לַכִּיֹּר הַכְּתֵפֹת יְצֻקֹות מֵעֵבֶר אִישׁ לֹיֹות | 30 Each stand had four bronze wheels with bronze axles; its four feet had shoulderings under the basin,and the shoulderings were cast. . . |
31 וּפִיהוּ מִבֵּית לַכֹּתֶרֶת וָמַעְלָה בָּאַמָּה וּפִיהָ עָגֹל מַעֲשֵׂה־כֵן אַמָּה וַחֲצִי הָאַמָּה וְגַם־עַל־פִּיהָ מִקְלָעֹות וּמִסְגְּרֹתֵיהֶם מְרֻבָּעֹות לֹא עֲגֻלֹּות | 31 Its mouth measured one and a half cubits from where the shoulderings met to the top; its mouth wasround like a stand for a vessel, and on the mouth there were engravings too; the crosspieces, however, wererectangular and not round. |
32 וְאַרְבַּעַת הָאֹופַנִּים לְמִתַּחַת לַמִּסְגְּרֹות וִידֹות הָאֹופַנִּים בַּמְּכֹונָה וְקֹומַת הָאֹופַן הָאֶחָד אַמָּה וַחֲצִי הָאַמָּה | 32 The four wheels were under the crosspieces. The axles of the wheels were inside the stands; theheight of the wheels was one and a half cubits. |
33 וּמַעֲשֵׂה הָאֹופַנִּים כְּמַעֲשֵׂה אֹופַן הַמֶּרְכָּבָה יְדֹותָם וְגַבֵּיהֶם וְחִשֻּׁקֵיהֶם וְחִשֻּׁרֵיהֶם הַכֹּל מוּצָק | 33 The wheels were designed like chariot wheels: their axles, felloes, spokes and naves had al been cast. |
34 וְאַרְבַּע כְּתֵפֹות אֶל אַרְבַּע פִּנֹּות הַמְּכֹנָה הָאֶחָת מִן־הַמְּכֹנָה כְּתֵפֶיהָ | 34 There were four shoulderings at the four corners of each stand: the stand and the shoulderings were alof a piece. |
35 וּבְרֹאשׁ הַמְּכֹונָה חֲצִי הָאַמָּה קֹומָה עָגֹל ׀ סָבִיב וְעַל רֹאשׁ הַמְּכֹנָה יְדֹתֶיהָ וּמִסְגְּרֹתֶיהָ מִמֶּנָּה | 35 At the top of the stand there was a support, circular in shape and half a cubit high; and on top of thestand there were lugs. The crosspieces were of a piece with the stand. |
36 וַיְפַתַּח עַל־הַלֻּחֹת יְדֹתֶיהָ וְעַל [וַמִסְגְּרֹתֶיהָ כ] (מִסְגְּרֹתֶיהָ ק) כְּרוּבִים אֲרָיֹות וְתִמֹרֹת כְּמַעַר־אִישׁ וְלֹיֹות סָבִיב | 36 On the bands he engraved winged creatures and lions and palm leaves. . . and scrol s right round. |
37 כָּזֹאת עָשָׂה אֵת עֶשֶׂר הַמְּכֹנֹות מוּצָק אֶחָד מִדָּה אַחַת קֶצֶב אֶחָד לְכֻלָּהְנָה׃ ס | 37 He made the ten stands like this: the same casting and the same measurements for all. |
38 וַיַּעַשׂ עֲשָׂרָה כִיֹּרֹות נְחֹשֶׁת אַרְבָּעִים בַּת יָכִיל ׀ הַכִּיֹּור הָאֶחָד אַרְבַּע בָּאַמָּה הַכִּיֹּור הָאֶחָד כִּיֹּור אֶחָד עַל־הַמְּכֹונָה הָאַחַת לְעֶשֶׂר הַמְּכֹנֹות | 38 He made ten bronze basins; each basin held forty measures and each basin measured four cubits, onebasin to each of the ten stands. |
39 וַיִּתֵּן אֶת־הַמְּכֹנֹות חָמֵשׁ עַל־כֶּתֶף הַבַּיִת מִיָּמִין וְחָמֵשׁ עַל־כֶּתֶף הַבַּיִת מִשְּׂמֹאלֹו וְאֶת־הַיָּם נָתַן מִכֶּתֶף הַבַּיִת הַיְמָנִית קֵדְמָה מִמּוּל נֶגֶב׃ ס | 39 He arranged the stands, five on the right-hand side of the Temple, five on the left-hand side of theTemple; the Sea he placed on the right-hand side of the Temple, to the south east. |
40 וַיַּעַשׂ חִירֹום אֶת־הַכִּיֹּרֹות וְאֶת־הַיָּעִים וְאֶת־הַמִּזְרָקֹות וַיְכַל חִירָם לַעֲשֹׂות אֶת־כָּל־הַמְּלָאכָה אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה לַמֶּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה בֵּית יְהוָה | 40 Hiram made the ash containers, the scoops and the sprinkling bowls. He finished all the work that hedid for King Solomon on the Temple of Yahweh: |
41 עַמֻּדִים שְׁנַיִם וְגֻלֹּת הַכֹּתָרֹת אֲשֶׁר־עַל־רֹאשׁ הָעַמֻּדִים שְׁתָּיִם וְהַשְּׂבָכֹות שְׁתַּיִם לְכַסֹּות אֶת־שְׁתֵּי גֻּלֹּת הַכֹּתָרֹת אֲשֶׁר עַל־רֹאשׁ הָעַמּוּדִים | 41 Two pil ars; the two mouldings of the capitals surrounding the pil ars; the two sets of filigree to coverthe two mouldings of the capitals surmounting the pil ars; |
42 וְאֶת־הָרִמֹּנִים אַרְבַּע מֵאֹות לִשְׁתֵּי הַשְּׂבָכֹות שְׁנֵי־טוּרִים רִמֹּנִים לַשְּׂבָכָה הָאֶחָת לְכַסֹּות אֶת־שְׁתֵּי גֻּלֹּת הַכֹּתָרֹת אֲשֶׁר עַל־פְּנֵי הָעַמּוּדִים | 42 the four hundred pomegranates for the two sets of filigree -- two rows of pomegranates for each set offiligree; |
43 וְאֶת־הַמְּכֹנֹות עָשֶׂר וְאֶת־הַכִּיֹּרֹת עֲשָׂרָה עַל־הַמְּכֹנֹות | 43 the ten stands and the ten basins on the stands; |
44 וְאֶת־הַיָּם הָאֶחָד וְאֶת־הַבָּקָר שְׁנֵים־עָשָׂר תַּחַת הַיָּם | 44 the one Sea and the twelve oxen beneath the Sea; |
45 וְאֶת־הַסִּירֹות וְאֶת־הַיָּעִים וְאֶת־הַמִּזְרָקֹות וְאֵת כָּל־הַכֵּלִים [הָאֹהֶל כ] (הָאֵלֶּה ק) אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה חִירָם לַמֶּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה בֵּית יְהוָה נְחֹשֶׁת מְמֹרָט | 45 the ash containers, the scoops, and sprinkling bowls. All these objects made by Hiram for KingSolomon for the Temple of Yahweh were of burnished bronze. |
46 בְּכִכַּר הַיַּרְדֵּן יְצָקָם הַמֶּלֶךְ בְּמַעֲבֵה הָאֲדָמָה בֵּין סֻכֹּות וּבֵין צָרְתָן | 46 He made them by the process of sand casting, in the plain of the Jordan between Succoth andZarethan. |
47 וַיַּנַּח שְׁלֹמֹה אֶת־כָּל־הַכֵּלִים מֵרֹב מְאֹד מְאֹד לֹא נֶחְקַר מִשְׁקַל הַנְּחֹשֶׁת | 47 There were so many of them, that the weight of the bronze was never calculated. |
48 וַיַּעַשׂ שְׁלֹמֹה אֵת כָּל־הַכֵּלִים אֲשֶׁר בֵּית יְהוָה אֵת מִזְבַּח הַזָּהָב וְאֶת־הַשֻּׁלְחָן אֲשֶׁר עָלָיו לֶחֶם הַפָּנִים זָהָב | 48 Solomon made all the objects designed for the Temple of Yahweh: the golden altar and the gold tablefor the loaves of permanent offering; |
49 וְאֶת־הַמְּנֹרֹות חָמֵשׁ מִיָּמִין וְחָמֵשׁ מִשְּׂמֹאול לִפְנֵי הַדְּבִיר זָהָב סָגוּר וְהַפֶּרַח וְהַנֵּרֹת וְהַמֶּלְקַחַיִם זָהָב | 49 the lamp-stands, five on the right and five on the left in front of the Debir, of pure gold; the floral work,the lamps, the tongs, of gold; |
50 וְהַסִּפֹּות וְהַמְזַמְּרֹות וְהַמִּזְרָקֹות וְהַכַּפֹּות וְהַמַּחְתֹּות זָהָב סָגוּר וְהַפֹּתֹות לְדַלְתֹות הַבַּיִת הַפְּנִימִי לְקֹדֶשׁ הַקֳּדָשִׁים לְדַלְתֵי הַבַּיִת לַהֵיכָל זָהָב׃ פ | 50 the basins, the snuffers, the sprinkling bowls, the incense ladles and the pans, of real gold; the doorpanels -- for the inner shrine -- that is, the Holy of Holies -- and for the Hekal, of gold. |
51 וַתִּשְׁלַם כָּל־הַמְּלָאכָה אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה הַמֶּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה בֵּית יְהוָה וַיָּבֵא שְׁלֹמֹה אֶת־קָדְשֵׁי ׀ דָּוִד אָבִיו אֶת־הַכֶּסֶף וְאֶת־הַזָּהָב וְאֶת־הַכֵּלִים נָתַן בְּאֹצְרֹות בֵּית יְהוָה׃ פ | 51 Thus al the work done by King Solomon for the Temple of Yahweh was completed, and Solomonbrought in the gifts which his father David had consecrated; and he had the silver, the gold and the utensils putinto the treasuries of the Temple of Yahweh. |
