SMITH VAN DYKE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 وكان في السنة الرابعة ليهوياقيم بن يوشيا ملك يهوذا ان هذه الكلمة صارت الى ارميا من قبل الرب قائلة.	1 In the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from Yahweh,
2 خذ لنفسك درج سفر واكتب فيه كل الكلام الذي كلمتك به على اسرائيل وعلى يهوذا وعلى كل الشعوب من اليوم الذي كلمتك فيه من ايام يوشيا الى هذا اليوم.	2 'Take a scroll and on it write al the words I have spoken to you about Israel, Judah and al the nations,from the day I first spoke to you, in the time of Josiah, until today.
3 لعل بيت يهوذا يسمعون كل الشر الذي انا مفكر ان اصنعه بهم فيرجعوا كل واحد عن طريقه الرديء فاغفر ذنبهم وخطيتهم.	3 Perhaps when the House of Judah hears about al the disaster I intend to inflict on them, they will turn,each one of them, from their evil behaviour, so that I can forgive their sinful guilt.'
4 فدعا ارميا باروخ بن نيريا فكتب باروخ عن فم ارميا كل كلام الرب الذي كلمه به في درج السفر.	4 Jeremiah then summoned Baruch son of Neriah, who at his dictation wrote down on the scrol all thewords Yahweh had spoken to him.
5 واوصى ارميا باروخ قائلا. انا محبوس لا اقدر ان ادخل بيت الرب	5 Jeremiah then gave Baruch this order, 'As I am prevented from entering the Temple of Yahweh,
6 فادخل انت واقرأ في الدرج الذي كتبت عن فمي كل كلام الرب في آذان الشعب في بيت الرب في يوم الصوم واقرأه ايضا في آذان كل يهوذا القادمين من مدنهم.	6 you yourself must go and, from the scrol you wrote at my dictation, read all Yahweh's words to thepeople in his Temple on the day of the fast, and in this way you can read them in the hearing also of all theJudaeans who come in from their towns.
7 لعل تضرعهم يقع امام الرب فيرجعوا كل واحد عن طريقه الرديء لانه عظيم الغضب والغيظ اللذان تكلم بهما الرب على هذا الشعب.	7 Perhaps their prayers wil move Yahweh and they wil turn one and al from their evil behaviour, forgreat is the furious anger with which Yahweh has threatened this people.'
8 ففعل باروخ بن نيريا حسب كل ما اوصاه به ارميا النبي بقراءته في السفر كلام الرب في بيت الرب	8 Baruch son of Neriah duly carried out the order that the prophet Jeremiah had given him, to read alYahweh's words from the book in his Temple.
9 وكان في السنة الخامسة ليهوياقيم بن يوشيا ملك يهوذا في الشهر التاسع انهم نادوا لصوم امام الرب كل الشعب في اورشليم وكل الشعب القادمين من مدن يهوذا الى اورشليم.	9 Now, in the fifth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, in the ninth month, al the people ofJerusalem and all the people who could get to Jerusalem from the towns of Judah were summoned to a fastbefore Yahweh.
10 فقرأ باروخ في السفر كلام ارميا في بيت الرب في مخدع جمريا بن شافان الكاتب في الدار العليا في مدخل باب بيت الرب الجديد في آذان كل الشعب	10 Baruch then read Jeremiah's words from the book; this happened in the room of Gemariah son of thescribe Shaphan, in the upper court at the entry of the New Gate of the Temple of Yahweh, where all the peoplecould hear.
11 فلما سمع ميخايا بن جمريا بن شافان كل كلام الرب من السفر	11 Micaiah son of Gemariah, son of Shaphan, having heard all Yahweh's words read from the book,
12 نزل الى بيت الملك الى مخدع الكاتب واذا كل الرؤساء جلوس هناك. اليشاماع الكاتب ودلايا بن شمعيا والناثان بن عكبور وجمريا بن شافان وصدقيا بن حننيا وكل الرؤساء.	12 went down to the royal palace, to the scribe's room. Al the chief men were in session: the scribeElishama, Delaiah son of Shemaiah, Elnathan son of Achbor, Gemariah son of Shaphan, Zedekiah son ofHananiah and al the other chief men;
13 واخبرهم ميخايا بكل الكلام الذي سمعه عندما قرأ باروخ السفر في آذان الشعب.	13 and to them Micaiah reported al the words he heard as Baruch was reading the book aloud to thepeople.
14 فارسل كل الرؤساء الى باروخ يهودي بن نثنيا بن شلميا بن كوشي قائلين. الدرج الذي قرأت فيه في آذان الشعب خذه بيدك وتعال. فاخذ باروخ بن نيريا الدرج بيده واتى اليهم.	14 The chief men then by common consent sent Jehudi son of Netaniah to Baruch, with Shelemiah sonof Cushi, to say, 'Come, and bring the scrol with you which you have been reading to the people.'
15 فقالوا له اجلس واقرأه في آذاننا. فقرأ باروخ في آذانهم.	15 Bringing the scrol with him, Baruch son of Neriah appeared before them. 'Sit down,' they said, 'andread it out.' So Baruch read it to them.
16 فكان لما سمعوا كل الكلام انهم خافوا ناظرين بعضهم الى بعض وقالوا لباروخ إخبارا نخبر الملك بكل هذا الكلام.	16 Having heard al the words they turned to one another in alarm and said to Baruch, 'We must certainlyinform the king of this.'
17 ثم سألوا باروخ قائلين اخبرنا كيف كتبت كل هذا الكلام عن فمه.	17 They then questioned Baruch, 'Tel us', they said, 'how you came to write al these words.'
18 فقال لهم باروخ بفمه كان يقرأ لي كل هذا الكلام وانا كنت اكتب في السفر بالحبر.	18 'Jeremiah dictated them al to me,' Baruch replied, 'and I wrote them down in ink in this book.'
19 فقال الرؤساء لباروخ اذهب واختبئ انت وارميا ولا يعلم انسان اين انتما	19 The chief men said to Baruch, 'You and Jeremiah had better go into hiding; and do not tel anyonewhere you are.'
20 ثم دخلوا الى الملك الى الدار واودعوا الدرج في مخدع اليشاماع الكاتب واخبروا في اذني الملك بكل الكلام.	20 Whereupon they went off to the king in the palace court, depositing the scrol in the room of the scribeElishama. They then informed the king of the whole affair.
21 فارسل الملك يهودي لياخذ الدرج فاخذه من مخدع اليشاماع الكاتب وقرأه يهودي في اذني الملك وفي آذان كل الرؤساء الواقفين لدى الملك.	21 The king sent Jehudi for the scrol , and he brought it from the room of the scribe Elishama and read itto the king and all the chief men standing round the king.
22 وكان الملك جالسا في بيت الشتاء في الشهر التاسع. والكانون قدامه متقد.	22 The king was sitting in his winter apartments -- it was the ninth month -- with a fire burning in a brazierin front of him.
23 وكان لما قرأ يهودي ثلاثة شطور او اربعة انه شقه بمبراة الكاتب والقاه الى النار التي في الكانون حتى فني كل الدرج في النار التي في الكانون.	23 Each time Jehudi had read three or four columns, the king cut them off with a scribe's knife and threwthem into the fire in the brazier until the whole of the scrol had been burnt in the brazier fire.
24 ولم يخف الملك ولا كل عبيده السامعين كل هذا الكلام ولا شققوا ثيابهم.	24 But in spite of hearing al these words, neither the king nor any of his courtiers took alarm or tore theirclothes;
25 ولكن الناثان ودلايا وجمريا ترجوا الملك ان لا يحرق الدرج فلم يسمع لهم.	25 and although Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had urged the king not to burn the scrol he wouldnot listen to them,
26 بل أمر الملك يرحمئيل ابن الملك وسرايا بن عزرئيل وشلميا بن عبدئيل ان يقبضوا على باروخ الكاتب وارميا النبي ولكن الرب خبأهما	26 but ordered the king's son Jerahmeel and Seraiah son of Azriel and Shelemiah son of Abdeel toarrest the scribe Baruch and the prophet Jeremiah. But Yahweh had hidden them.
27 ثم صارت كلمة الرب الى ارميا بعد احراق الملك الدرج والكلام الذي كتبه باروخ عن فم ارميا قائلة	27 Then the word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah, after the king had burnt the scrol containing the wordsBaruch had written at Jeremiah's dictation,
28 عد فخذ لنفسك درجا آخر واكتب فيه كل الكلام الاول الذي كان في الدرج الاول الذي احرقه يهوياقيم ملك يهوذا.	28 'Take another scroll and write down all the words that were written on the first scrol burnt byJehoiakim king of Judah.
29 وقل ليهوياقيم ملك يهوذا. هكذا قال الرب. انت قد احرقت ذلك الدرج قائلا لماذا كتبت فيه قائلا مجيئا يجيء ملك بابل ويهلك هذه الارض ويلاشي منها الانسان والحيوان.	29 And as regards Jehoiakim king of Judah, you are to say, "Yahweh says this: You have burnt thatscrol , saying: Why have you written down: The king of Babylon will certainly come and lay this country wasteand leave it without human or animal?
30 لذلك هكذا قال الرب عن يهوياقيم ملك يهوذا. لا يكون له جالس على كرسي داود وتكون جثته مطروحة للحر نهارا وللبرد ليلا.	30 So, this is what Yahweh says about Jehoiakim king of Judah: He wil have no one to occupy thethrone of David, and his corpse wil be tossed out to the heat of the day and the frost of the night.
31 واعاقبه ونسله وعبيده على اثمهم واجلب عليهم وعلى سكان اورشليم وعلى رجال يهوذا كل الشر الذي كلمتهم عنه ولم يسمعوا	31 I shal punish him, his offspring and his courtiers for their guilt; on them, on the citizens of Jerusalemand on the people of Judah I shal bring the total disaster which I had decreed for them but to which they havepaid no attention."
32 فاخذ ارميا درجا آخر ودفعه لباروخ بن نيريا الكاتب فكتب فيه عن فم ارميا كل كلام السفر الذي احرقه يهوياقيم ملك يهوذا بالنار وزيد عليه ايضا كلام كثير مثله	32 Jeremiah then took another scrol and gave it to the scribe Baruch son of Neriah, who in it atJeremiah's dictation wrote all the words of the book that Jehoiakim king of Judah had burnt, with many similarwords in addition.
