Primeira Epístola a Timóteo 6

1 Todos os que vivem sob o jugo da servidão considerem seus senhores dignos de toda honra, para que não sejam caluniados o nome de Deus e sua doutrina.	1 Whoever are servants under the yoke, let them consider their masters to be worthy of every honor, lest the name and doctrine of the Lord be blasphemed.
2 E os que têm patrões que abraçaram a fé, nem por isto os menosprezem, sob pretexto de serem irmãos. Ao contrário, deverão servi-los ainda melhor, pelo fato de que eles são fiéis amados de Deus e participantes de seus benefícios. Tal deve ser o tema de teus ensinamentos e de tuas exortações.	2 But those who have believing masters, let them not despise them because they are brothers, but rather serve them all the more because they are believing and beloved, participants of the same service. Teach and exhort these things.
3 Quem ensina de outra forma e discorda das salutares palavras de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, bem como da doutrina conforme à piedade,	3 If anyone teaches otherwise, and does not consent to the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to that doctrine which is in accord with piety,
4 é um obcecado pelo orgulho, um ignorante, doentio por questões ociosas e contendas de palavras. Daí se originam a inveja, a discórdia, os insultos, as suspeitas injustas,	4 then he is arrogant, knowing nothing, yet languishing amid the questions and quarrels of words. From these arise envy, contention, blasphemy, evil suspicions:
5 os vãos conflitos entre homens de coração corrompido e privados da verdade, que só vêem na piedade uma fonte de lucro.	5 the conflicts of men who have been corrupted in mind and deprived of truth, who consider profit to be piety.
6 Sem dúvida, grande fonte de lucro é a piedade, porém quando acompanhada de espírito de desprendimento.	6 But piety with sufficiency is great gain.
7 Porque nada trouxemos ao mundo, como tampouco nada poderemos levar.	7 For we brought nothing into this world, and there is no doubt that we can take nothing away.
8 Tendo alimento e vestuário, contentemo-nos com isto.	8 But, having nourishment and some kind of covering, we should be content with these.
9 Aqueles que ambicionam tornar-se ricos caem nas armadilhas do demônio e em muitos desejos insensatos e nocivos, que precipitam os homens no abismo da ruína e da perdição.	9 For those who want to become rich fall into temptation and into the snare of the devil and into many useless and harmful desires, which submerge men in destruction and in perdition.
10 Porque a raiz de todos os males é o amor ao dinheiro. Acossados pela cobiça, alguns se desviaram da fé e se enredaram em muitas aflições.	10 For desire is the root of all evils. Some persons, hungering in this way, have strayed from the faith and have entangled themselves in many sorrows.
11 Mas tu, ó homem de Deus, foge desses vícios e procura com todo empenho a piedade, a fé, a caridade, a paciência, a mansidão.	11 But you, O man of God, flee from these things, and truly pursue justice, piety, faith, charity, patience, meekness.
12 Combate o bom combate da fé. Conquista a vida eterna, para a qual foste chamado e fizeste aquela nobre profissão de fé perante muitas testemunhas.	12 Fight the good fight of faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you have been called, and make a good profession of faith in the sight of many witnesses.
13 Em presença de Deus, que dá a vida a todas as coisas, e de Cristo Jesus, que ante Pôncio Pilatos abertamente testemunhou a verdade,	13 I charge you, in the sight of God, who enlivens all things, and in the sight of Christ Jesus, who gave the testimony of a good profession under Pontius Pilate,
14 recomendo-te que guardes o mandamento sem mácula, irrepreensível, até a aparição de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo,	14 to observe the commandment, immaculately, irreproachably, unto the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.
15 a qual a seu tempo será realizada pelo bem-aventurado e único Soberano, Rei dos reis e Senhor dos senhores,	15 For at the proper time, he shall reveal the blessed and only Power, the King of kings and the Lord of lords,
16 o único que possui a imortalidade e habita em luz inacessível, a quem nenhum homem viu, nem pode ver. A ele, honra e poder eterno! Amém.	16 who alone holds immortality, and who inhabits the inaccessible light, whom no man has seen, nor even is able to see, to whom is honor and everlasting dominion. Amen.
17 Exorta os ricos deste mundo a que não sejam orgulhosos nem ponham sua esperança nas riquezas volúveis, mas em Deus, que nos dá abundantemente todas as coisas para delas fruirmos.	17 Instruct the wealthy of this age not to have a superior attitude, nor to hope in the uncertainty of riches, but in the living God, who offers us everything in abundance to enjoy,
18 Que pratiquem o bem, se enriqueçam de boas obras, sejam generosos, comunicativos,	18 and to do good, to become rich in good works, to donate readily, to share,
19 ajuntem um tesouro sólido e excelente para seu futuro, a fim de conquistarem a verdadeira vida.	19 to gather for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may obtain true life.
20 Ó Timóteo, guarda o bem que te foi confiado! Evita as conversas frívolas e mundanas, assim como as contradições de pretensa ciência.	20 O Timothy, guard what has been deposited with you, avoiding the voice of profane novelties and of opposing ideas, which are falsely called knowledge.
21 Alguns, por segui-las, se transviaram da fé. A graça esteja convosco.	21 Certain persons, promising these things, have perished from the faith. May grace be with you. Amen.
