II Livro de Samuel 15

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Depois disso Absalão adquiriu para si um carro, cavalos e cinqüenta homens para escoltaram-no.	1 After this, Absalom procured a chariot and horses, with fifty men to run ahead of him.
2 Colocava-se desde cedo à beira do caminho, junto à grande porta, e interpelava todos os que vinham procurar o rei para um julgamento, dizendo: De que cidade és tu? O outro respondia: Teu servo é de tal tribo de Israel.	2 He would get up early and stand beside the road leading to the city gate; and whenever a man withsome lawsuit had to come before the king's tribunal, Absalom would cal out to him and ask, 'Which town are youfrom?' If he answered, 'Your servant is from one of the tribes of Israel,'
3 Vê, dizia-lhe Absalão; a tua causa é boa e justa; mas não há ninguém para te ouvir da parte do rei.	3 then Absalom would say, 'Look, your case is sound and just, but not one of the king's deputies willisten to you.'
4 E Absalão ajuntava: Oh, quem me dera ser juiz desta terra! Todo o que tivesse um litígio ou uma questão e viesse ter comigo, eu lhe faria justiça.	4 Absalom would say, 'Oh, who will appoint me judge in the land? Then anyone with a lawsuit or a pleacould come to me and I should see he had justice!'
5 E se alguém se aproximava para se prostrar diante dele, estendia a mão, detinha-o e beijava-o.	5 And whenever anyone came up to him to prostrate himself, he would stretch out his hand, draw him tohim and kiss him.
6 Assim fazia Absalão com todos os israelitas que vinham procurar o rei para qualquer julgamento. E desse modo conquistou os corações dos israelitas.	6 Absalom acted like this with every Israelite who appealed to the king's tribunal, and so Absalom wonthe Israelites' hearts.
7 Quatro anos se passaram. Absalão disse ao rei: Deixa-me ir a Hebron para cumprir ali uma promessa que fiz ao Senhor.	7 When four years had gone by, Absalom said to the king, 'Al ow me to go to Hebron and fulfil the vowwhich I have made to Yahweh;
8 Quando o teu servo estava em Gessur, fez este voto: se Senhor me reconduzir a Jerusalém, irei prestar-lhe culto em Hebron.	8 for, when I was in Geshur, in Aram, your servant made this vow, "If Yahweh brings me back toJerusalem, I shal pay my devotions to Yahweh in Hebron." '
9 Vai em paz, disse-lhe o rei. E ele foi para Hebron.	9 The king said to him, 'Go in peace.' So he set off and went to Hebron.
10 Absalão enviou emissários secretos a todas as tribos de Israel, com esta mensagem: Quando ouvirdes o som da trombeta, dizei: Absalão é rei em Hebron!	10 Absalom sent couriers throughout the tribes of Israel to say, 'When you hear the trumpet sound, you are to say, "Absalom is king at Hebron!" '
11 Ora, tinham partido de Jerusalém com Absalão duzentos homens, convidados por ele, que o seguiam com simplicidade de coração, sem nada suspeitar.	11 With Absalom went two hundred men from Jerusalem; they had been invited and had gone in alinnocence, unaware of what was going on.
12 Enquanto oferecia os sacrifícios, Absalão mandou chamar também Aquitofel, gilonita, conselheiro de Davi, à sua cidade de Gilo. E assim a conjuração se fortificava e se tornava cada vez mais numerosa em torno de Absalão.	12 Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counsellor, from Giloh his town, and had him withhim while offering the sacrifices. The conspiracy grew in strength, since Absalom's supporters grew in number.
13 Vieram então anunciar a Davi: Os israelitas aderem a Absalão!	13 A messenger came and told David, 'The men of Israel have shifted their allegiance to Absalom.'
14 Davi disse então a todos os que estavam com ele em Jerusalém: Vamos, fujamos, porque não podemos de outro modo escapar a Absalão! Apressai-vos e parti, não suceda que ele nos surpreenda de repente, e nos inflija a ruína, passando a cidade ao fio da espada.	14 David said to al his retinue then with him in Jerusalem, 'Up, let us flee, or we shal not escape fromAbsalom! Leave as quickly as you can, in case he mounts a sudden attack, overcomes us and puts the city tothe sword.'
15 Os servos do rei disseram-lhe: Faça-se como ordenar o rei, meu senhor; somos teus servos.	15 The king's retinue replied, 'Whatever my lord the king decides, we are at your service.'
16 O rei partiu a pé com toda a sua família, mas deixou dez concubinas para guardar o palácio.	16 The king set out on foot with his whole household, leaving ten concubines to look after the palace.
17 O rei saiu, pois, a pé com todos os seus servos, e se detiveram na última casa.	17 The king set out on foot with everyone fol owing, and they halted at the last house.
18 Todo o seu exército desfilava ao seu lado; os cereteus, os feleteus e todos os geteus, em número de seiscentos homens que o tinham seguido desde Get, todos marchavam diante do rei.	18 Al his officers stood at his side. All the Cherethites and all the Pelethites, with Ittai and all the sixhundred Gittites who had come in his retinue from Gath, marched past the king.
19 O rei disse a Etai, o geteu: Por que vens também tu conosco? Volta e fica com o {novo} rei, pois és um estrangeiro, e mesmo um exilado de tua terra.	19 The king said to Ittai the Gittite, 'You, why are you coming with us? Go back and stay with the king,for you are a foreigner, indeed an exile from your homeland.
20 Chegaste ontem, e hoje vou fazer que andes errante conosco, não sabendo eu mesmo aonde vou? Volta. Toma os teus contigo, e que o Senhor seja misericordioso e fiel para contigo.	20 You arrived only yesterday; should I take you wandering with us today, when I do not know myselfwhere I am going? Go back, take your fellow countrymen with you, and may Yahweh show you mercy andfaithful love!'
21 Mas Etai respondeu ao rei: Pela vida do Senhor, e pela vida do rei, meu senhor! Onde estiver o meu senhor e rei, ali estará também o teu servo, tanto para a morte como para a vida.	21 Ittai replied to the king, 'As Yahweh lives, and as my lord the king lives, wherever my lord the kingmay be, for death or life, your servant wil be there too.'
22 Está bem, disse Davi, passa. E Etai, o geteu, desfilou com todos os seus homens e com toda a sua comitiva.	22 David then said to Ittai, 'Go ahead, march past!' And Ittai of Gath marched past with al his men andwith all his children too.
23 E estando o rei junto do Cedron, enquanto desfilava o povo diante dele, tomando o caminho da oliveira do deserto, toda a terra chorava em alta voz.	23 The entire population was weeping aloud as the king stood in the bed of the Kidron and everyonemarched past him, making for the desert.
24 Veio também Sadoc com todos os seus levitas, trazendo a arca da aliança de Deus. Depuseram-na, enquanto Abiatar subia, e até que tivesse passado todo o povo que tinha saído da cidade.	24 Zadok was there too, and al the Levites with him, carrying the ark of God. They set the ark of Goddown beside Abiathar until everyone had finished marching out of the town.
25 Disse então o rei a Sadoc: Reconduz a arca de Deus à cidade. Se eu achar graça aos olhos do Senhor, ele me reconduzirá e me fará revê-la, bem como o lugar de sua habitação.	25 The king then said to Zadok, 'Take the ark of God back into the city. Should I win Yahweh's favour,he wil bring me back and al ow me to see it and its tent once more.
26 Mas se disser que não quer mais saber de mim, eis-me aqui; faça de mim o que lhe aprouver.	26 But should he say, "You displease me," here I am: let him treat me as he sees fit.'
27 O rei disse ainda a Sadoc: Vede: tu e Abiatar, voltai em paz para a cidade com Aquimaas, teu filho, e Jônatas, filho de Abiatar.	27 The king said to Zadok the priest, 'Look, you and Abiathar go back quietly into the city, with your twosons, your own son Ahimaaz and Jonathan son of Abiathar.
28 Eu vou arrastar-me pelas campinas do deserto, esperando que me mandeis notícias.	28 You see, I shall wait in the passes of the desert plain until word comes from you bringing me news.'
29 Sadoc e Abiatar reconduziram, pois, a arca de Deus para Jerusalém e lá ficaram.	29 So Zadok and Abiathar took the ark of God back to Jerusalem and stayed there.
30 Davi subiu chorando o monte das Oliveiras, cabeça coberta e descalço. Todo o povo que o acompanhava subia também chorando, com a cabeça coberta.	30 David then made his way up the Mount of Olives, weeping as he went, his head covered and his feetbare. And al the people with him had their heads covered and made their way up, weeping as they went.
31 Foi anunciado a Davi que Aquitofel estava também entre os conjurados de Absalão. Davi disse: Fazei que se frustrem, ó Senhor, meu Deus, os desígnios de Aquitofel!	31 David was then informed that Ahithophel was among the conspirators with Absalom. David said, 'Ibeg you, Yahweh, turn Ahithophel's advice to fol y.'
32 Ora, chegando Davi ao cume do monte, no lugar onde se adorava Deus, veio-lhe ao encontro Cusai, o araquita, com a túnica em farrapos e a cabeça coberta de pó.	32 As David reached the summit, where God is worshipped, he saw Hushai the Archite, his friend,coming to meet him with his tunic torn and with earth on his head.
33 Davi disse-lhe: Se vieres comigo, ser-me-ás pesado;	33 David said, 'If you go along with me, you wil be a burden to me.
34 mas se voltares à cidade e disseres a Absalão: eu quero ser, ó rei, teu servo, como fui outrora servo de teu pai; doravante servir-te-ei a ti - então desconcertarás a meu favor o desígnio de Aquitofel.	34 But if you go back to the city and say to Absalom, "I am at your service, my lord king; once I was inyour father's service, but now I shal serve you," you wil be able to thwart Ahithophel's advice for me.
35 Terás lá contigo os sacerdotes Sadoc e Abiatar, a quem comunicarás tudo o que souberes no palácio real.	35 Surely the priests Zadok and Abiathar wil be with you? Anything you hear from the palace you mustreport to the priests Zadok and Abiathar.
36 Com eles estão os seus dois filhos, Aquimaas, filho de Sadoc, e Jônatas, filho de Abiatar; por eles me transmitireis tudo o que ouvirdes.	36 You see, their two sons are there with them, Zadok's son Ahimaaz, and Abiathar's son Jonathan;through these, you will send me word of everything you hear.'
37 E Cusai, amigo de Davi, voltou para a cidade, no momento em que Absalão fazia a sua entrada em Jerusalém.	37 Hushai, David's friend, entered the city just as Absalom was reaching Jerusalem.
