Hebrews 5

For every high priest, having been taken from among men, is appointed on behalf of men toward the things which pertain to God, so that he may offer gifts and sacrifices on behalf of sins;1 Porque todo Sumo Sacerdote es tomado de entre los hombres y está puesto en favor de los hombres en lo que se refiere a Dios para ofrecer dones y sacrificios por los pecados;
he is able to commiserate with those who are ignorant and who wander astray, because he himself is also encompassed by infirmity.2 y puede sentir compasión hacia los ignorantes y extraviados, por estar también él envuelto en flaqueza.
And because of this, he also must make such offerings for sins even for himself, in the same manner as for the people.3 Y a causa de esa misma flaqueza debe ofrecer por los pecados propios igual que por los del pueblo.
Neither does anyone take up this honor himself, but rather he who is called by God, just as Aaron was.4 Y nadie se arroga tal dignidad, sino el llamado por Dios, lo mismo que Aarón.
Thus, even Christ did not glorify himself, so as to become High Priest, but instead, it was God who said to him: “You are my Son. Today I have begotten you.”5 De igual modo, tampoco Cristo se apropió la gloria del Sumo Sacerdocio, sino que la tuvo de quien le dijo: Hijo mío eres tú; yo te he engendrado hoy.
And similarly, he says in another place: “You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek.”6 Como también dice en otro lugar: Tú eres sacerdote para siempre, a semejanza de Melquisedec.
It is Christ who, in the days of his flesh, with a strong cry and tears, offered prayers and supplications to the One who was able to save him from death, and who was heard because of his reverence.7 El cual, habiendo ofrecido en los días de su vida mortal ruegos y súplicas con poderoso clamor y lágrimas al que podía salvarle de la muerte, fue escuchado por su actitud reverente,
And although, certainly, he is the Son of God, he learned obedience by the things that he suffered.8 y aun siendo Hijo, con lo que padeció experimentó la obediencia;
And having reached his consummation, he was made, for all who are obedient to him, the cause of eternal salvation,9 y llegado a la perfección, se convirtió en causa de salvación eterna para todos los que le obedecen,
having been called by God to be the High Priest, according to the order of Melchizedek.10 proclamado por Dios Sumo Sacerdote a semejanza de Melquisedec.
Our message about him is great, and difficult to explain when speaking, because you have been made feeble when listening.11 Sobre este particular tenemos muchas cosas que decir, aunque difíciles de explicar, porque os habéis hecho tardos de entendimiento.
For even though it is the time when you ought to be teachers, you are still lacking, so that you must be taught the things that are the basic elements of the Word of God, and so you have been made like those who are in need of milk, and not of solid food.12 Pues debiendo ser ya maestros en razón del tiempo, volvéis a tener necesidad de ser instruidos en los primeros rudimentos de los oráculos divinos, y os habéis hecho tales que tenéis necesidad de leche en lugar de manjar sólido.
For anyone who is still feeding on milk is still unskillful in the Word of Justice; for he is like an infant.13 Pues todo el que se nutre de leche desconoce la doctrina de la justicia, porque es niño.
But solid food is for those who are mature, for those who, by practice, have sharpened their mind, so as to discern good from evil.14 En cambio, el manjar sólido es de adultos; de aquellos que, por costumbre, tienen las facultades ejercitadas en el discernimiento del bien y del mal.
