1 For this reason, it is necessary for us to observe more thoroughly the things that we have heard, lest we let them slip away.	1 Voilà pourquoi il faut prendre au sérieux le message que nous avons écouté, et ne pas aller à la dérive.
2 For if a word that was spoken through the Angels has been made firm, and every transgression and disobedience has received the recompense of a just retribution,	2 Voyez comment la Loi donnée par les anges était inflexible: toute désobéissance, toute violation de la Loi recevait son juste châtiment.
3 in what way might we escape, if we neglect such a great salvation? For though initially it had begun to be described by the Lord, it was confirmed among us by those who heard him,	3 Mais alors, pour un tel message de salut, comment pourrons-nous échapper si nous l’avons méprisé? C’est le Seigneur qui l’a prêché le premier, puis il nous a été confirmé par ceux qui l’avaient entendu de lui.
4 with God testifying to it by signs and wonders, and by various miracles, and by the pouring out of the Holy Spirit, in accord with his own will.	4 Dieu lui-même a accrédité leur témoignage par des signes, des prodiges et toutes sortes de miracles, sans compter les charismes de l’Esprit Saint qu’il distribue comme il veut.
5 For God did not subject the future world, about which we are speaking, to the Angels.	5 Le monde nouveau dont nous voulons parler n’est pas sous le contrôle des anges.
6 But someone, in a certain place, has testified, saying: “What is man, that you are mindful of him, or the Son of man, that you visit him?	6 Quelqu’un a déclaré: Qu’est-ce que l’homme pour que tu te souviennes de lui? Comme tu te préoccupes pour le fils de l’homme!
7 You have reduced him to a little less than the Angels. You have crowned him with glory and honor, and you have set him over the works of your hands.	7 Tu l’as rabaissé pour un moment au-dessous des anges, puis tu l’as couronné de gloire et d’honneur:
8 You have subjected all things under his feet.” For in as much as he has subjected all things to him, he has left nothing not subject to him. But in the present time, we do not yet perceive that all things have been made subject to him.	8 tu as tout mis sous ses pieds. Vous voyez, tout lui est soumis, rien n’est laissé hors de son contrôle. De fait nous ne voyons pas encore que tout lui soit soumis,
9 Yet we understand that Jesus, who was reduced to a little less than the Angels, was crowned with glory and honor because of his Passion and death, in order that, by the grace of God, he might taste death for all.	9 mais le texte dit bien: Tu l’as rabaissé pour un moment au-dessous des anges. Il s’agit de Jésus, et nous voyons que pour le prix de sa mort douloureuse il a été couronné de gloire et d’honneur. C’est une grâce de Dieu qu’il ait fait pour tous l’expérience de la mort.
10 For it was fitting for him, because of whom and through whom all things exist, who had led many children into glory, to complete the authorship of their salvation through his Passion.	10 Oui, Celui de qui tout vient et qui agit en tout, voulait faire entrer dans la Gloire de nombreux fils. Et il a jugé bon de rendre parfait par le moyen de la souffrance celui qui se chargeait de leur salut à tous.
11 For he who sanctifies, and those who are sanctified, are all from One. For this reason, he is not ashamed to call them brothers, saying:	11 Celui qui sanctifie ne fait plus qu’un avec ceux qui deviennent saints, et c’est pourquoi il n’a pas honte de les appeler ses frères.
12 “I will announce your name to my brothers. In the midst of the Church, I will praise you.”	12 Il dit: J’annoncerai ton nom à mes frères, je te chanterai devant toute l’assemblée.
13 And again: “I will be faithful in him.” And again: “Behold, I and my children, whom God has given to me.”	13 Et encore: Je mettrai en lui ma confiance. Et encore: Me voici, moi et les enfants que Dieu m’a donnés.
14 Therefore, because children have a common flesh and blood, he himself also, in like manner, has shared in the same, so that through death, he might destroy him who held the dominion of death, that is, the devil,	14 Et puisque ces enfants sont de chair et de sang, il a voulu partager avec eux, et donc mourir, afin de détruire celui qui était le maître de la mort, c’est à dire le diable.
15 and so that he might free those who, through the fear of death, had been condemned to servitude throughout their entire life.	15 C’est ainsi qu’il a délivré ceux qui, par crainte de la mort, restaient esclaves dans toute la réalité de leur vie.
16 For at no time did he take hold of the Angels, but instead he took hold of the offspring of Abraham.	16 Ce ne sont pas les anges qu’il prend en charge: il prend en charge la race d’Abraham.
17 Therefore, it is fitting for him to be made similar to his brothers in all things, so that he might become a merciful and faithful High Priest before God, in order that he might bring forgiveness to the offenses of the people.	17 Il lui fallait donc ressembler en tout à ses frères et devenir ce grand prêtre plein de compassion, mais aussi fidèle au service de Dieu, qui obtiendra le pardon pour les fautes du peuple.
18 For in as much as he himself has suffered and has been tempted, he also is able to assist those who are tempted.	18 Il a été éprouvé par la souffrance, il peut donc secourir ceux qui sont éprouvés.
