Joshua 20

1 And the Lord spoke to Joshua, saying: “Speak to the sons of Israel, and say to them:	1 E favellò Iddio a Iosuè, e sì gli disse: parla a' figliuoli d' Israel, e di' loro:
2 Separate the cities of refuge, about which I spoke to you by the hand of Moses,	2 ispartite le cittadi di coloro che fuggirono (per alcuna offesa), delle quali favellai a voi per mano di Moisè,
3 so that anyone who will have struck down a life unintentionally may flee to them. And so, he may be able to escape from the wrath of a close relative, who is an avenger of blood.	3 acciò che vi possa fuggire qualunque uccidesse alcuno uomo disavvedutamente, acciò che possa iscampare (e fuggire) l' ira del prossimo suo, il quale è vendicatore del suo sangue.
4 And when he will have fled to one of these cities, he shall stand before the gate of the city, and he shall speak to the ancients of that city, the things that prove him innocent. And so shall they receive him, and give him a place in which to live.	4 E quando fuggirà ad una di queste cittadi, istarà dinanzi alle porte della città, e sì favellerà agli antichi di quella cittade quelle cose che provino (e mostrino) perchè egli sia innocente (e senza colpa); e così lo riceveranno, e sì gli daranno luogo da abitare.
5 And if the avenger of blood will have pursued him, they shall not deliver him into his hands. For he struck down his neighbor unknowingly, one who was not proven to have been his enemy two or three days before.	5 E avendo perseguitato quegli il quale vuole fare la vendetta, non lo metteranno nelle sue mani; imperò che disavvedutamente uccise il prossimo suo, nè non si trovava che fosse suo nemico (mortale) due o tre dì innanzi.
6 And he shall live in that city, until he stands before judgment in order to render the facts of his case, and until the death of the high priest, whoever it will be in that time. Then the one who killed a man may return, and he may enter his own city and house, from which he had fled.”	6 E abiterà in quella città insino a tanto che istarà al giudicio, iscusando il fatto suo, e che muoia il sommo sacerdote, il quale sarà in quello tempo (tanto istarà di fuori): allora tornerà quegli il quale era stato omicidiale, e ritornerà nella cittade e nella casa sua, della quale era fuggito.
7 And they decreed Kedesh in Galilee, at mount Naphtali, and Shechem, at mount Ephraim, and Kiriath-Arba, which is Hebron, at mount Judah.	7 E determinarono che l' una città fosse in Galilea la città di Cedes del monte di Neftali, l'altra la città di Sichem nel monte di Efraim, e l'altra città fosse Cariatarbe nel monte di Giuda.
8 And beyond the Jordan, opposite the eastern side of Jericho, they appointed Bezer, which is situated on the plain of the wilderness of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan of the tribe of Manasseh.	8 E di là dal (fiume) Giordano, verso la parte dell' oriente di Gerico, ordinarono la città di Bosor, la quale è edificata nel deserto della schiatta di Ruben, e Ramot in Galaad della schiatta di Gad, e Gaulon in Basan della schiatta di Manasse.
9 These cities were established for all the sons of Israel, and for the new arrivals who were living among them, so that whoever had struck down a life unintentionally might flee to these, and not die at the hand of a close relative who desires to vindicate the blood that was shed, until he should stand before the people, in order to present his case.	9 Queste sono le cittadi (date e) ordinate a tutti i figliuoli d' Israel, e ai forestieri che abitano tra loro, acciò che fuggisse quivi qualunque uccidesse persona alcuna disavvedutamente, e non muoia nelle mani del prossimo suo il quale desidera di vendicare il sangue isparto (del suo fratello), innanzi che istesse dinanzi al popolo difendendo la sua ragione.
