1 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called as an Apostle, separated for the Gospel of God,	1 Lettre de Paul, serviteur du Christ Jésus, apôtre appelé et désigné pour la Bonne Nouvelle de Dieu.
2 which he had promised beforehand, through his Prophets, in the Holy Scriptures,	2 Il l’avait annoncée par ses prophètes dans les saintes Écritures,
3 about his Son, who was made for him from the offspring of David according to the flesh,	3 il s’agissait de son Fils, lequel est issu de la descendance de David, selon la chair,
4 the Son of God, who was predestined in virtue according to the Spirit of sanctification from the resurrection of the dead, our Lord Jesus Christ,	4 mais l’Esprit de sainteté l’a introduit avec puissance comme le Fils de Dieu par sa résurrection d’entre les morts. C’est de lui, Jésus Christ, notre Seigneur,
5 through whom we have received grace and Apostleship, for the sake of his name, for the obedience of faith among all the Gentiles,	5 que nous avons reçu cette grâce et cette mission: amener toutes les nations païennes à suivre la foi pour la gloire de son Nom.
6 from whom you also have been called by Jesus Christ:	6 Vous en êtes vous aussi, élus du Christ Jésus
7 To all who are at Rome, the beloved of God, called as saints. Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.	7 qui êtes à Rome, vous que Dieu aime, qu’il a appelés et qu’il a consacrés. Que viennent sur vous, de Dieu notre Père et du Seigneur Jésus Christ, la grâce et la paix!
8 Certainly, I give thanks to my God, through Jesus Christ, first for all of you, because your faith is being announced throughout the entire world.	8 D’abord je rends grâces à mon Dieu par le Christ Jésus pour vous tous, car dans le monde entier on parle de votre foi.
9 For God is my witness, whom I serve in my spirit by the Gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I have kept a remembrance of you	9 Je pense constamment à vous dans mes prières, et de cela Dieu est témoin, Lui auquel je rends un culte spirituel quand je travaille pour l’Évangile de son Fils.
10 always in my prayers, pleading that in some way, at some time, I may have a prosperous journey, within the will of God, to come to you.	10 Car toujours je prie Dieu, s’il le veut, que tout s’arrange pour que je puisse aller chez vous.
11 For I long to see you, so that I may impart to you a certain spiritual grace to strengthen you,	11 J’ai un grand désir de vous voir et de vous transmettre quelque don spirituel qui vous affermisse,
12 specifically, to be consoled together with you through that which is mutual: your faith and mine.	12 et nous trouverons du réconfort dans notre foi commune, la mienne et la vôtre.
13 But I want you to know, brothers, that I have often intended to come to you, (though I have been hindered even to the present time) so that I might obtain some fruit among you also, just as also among the other Gentiles.	13 Il faut que vous le sachiez, j’ai eu bien des fois l’intention d’aller chez vous, mais jusqu’à maintenant j’en ai été empêché, alors que je voulais faire mûrir quelques fruits chez vous comme je l’ai fait dans d’autres pays.
14 To the Greeks and to the uncivilized, to the wise and to the foolish, I am in debt.	14 C’est que je me dois à tous, à ceux du monde grec comme à ceux qui ne le parlent pas, aux gens cultivés comme à ceux qui n’ont pas étudié.
15 So within me there is a prompting to evangelize to you also who are at Rome.	15 Et pour ma part, je désire aller aussi chez vous à Rome pour donner l’Évangile.
16 For I am not ashamed of the Gospel. For it is the power of God unto salvation for all believers, the Jew first, and the Greek.	16 Vous le voyez, je n’ai pas honte de l’Évangile. C’est une force de Dieu, et c’est le salut pour tous ceux qui croient, les Juifs d’abord, et de même les Grecs.
17 For the justice of God is revealed within it, by faith unto faith, just as it was written: “For the just one lives by faith.”	17 L’Évangile révèle comment Dieu nous fait “justes”, à partir de la foi, et pour une vie de foi, comme il est dit dans l’Écriture: Il vivra, celui dont la justice vient de la foi.
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven over every impiety and injustice among those men who fend off the truth of God with injustice.	18 Voici que du Ciel se manifeste la réprobation de Dieu, face à l’insolence et l’injustice de ceux qui étouffent la vérité par le mal.
19 For what is known about God is manifest in them. For God has manifested it to them.	19 Tout ce qu’on peut connaître de Dieu, ils l’ont sous les yeux: Dieu le leur a montré.
20 For unseen things about him have been made conspicuous, since the creation of the world, being understood by the things that were made; likewise his everlasting virtue and divinity, so much so that they have no excuse.	20 Ce qu’il est et qu’on ne peut voir, est devenu visible grâce à la création de l’univers, et l’on connaît à travers ses œuvres son éternité, sa puissance et sa divinité. De sorte qu’ils n’ont pas d’excuse.
21 For although they had known God, they did not glorify God, nor give thanks. Instead, they became weakened in their thoughts, and their foolish heart was obscured.	21 Alors qu’ils connaissaient Dieu, ils ne lui ont rendu ni l’honneur, ni l’action de grâces dus à Dieu. Au contraire ils se sont perdus dans leurs discussions, et leur conscience aveugle est devenue ténèbres.
22 For, while proclaiming themselves to be wise, they became foolish.	22 Ce sont des fous qui passent pour sages;
23 And they exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for the likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of flying things, and of four-legged beasts, and of serpents.	23 ils ont même remplacé le Dieu de la Gloire, le Dieu qui ne passera pas, par des images de tout ce qui passe, des images d’hommes, d’oiseaux, de bêtes ou de serpents.
24 For this reason, God handed them over to the desires of their own heart for impurity, so that they afflicted their own bodies with indignities among themselves.	24 C’est pourquoi Dieu les a livrés à leurs passions secrètes: ils ont couru à l’impureté et ont déshonoré leur propre corps.
25 And they exchanged the truth of God for a lie. And they worshipped and served the creature, rather than the Creator, who is blessed for all eternity. Amen.	25 Oui, ils ont préféré le mensonge à la vérité de Dieu, ils ont préféré servir et adorer la créature plutôt que le Créateur, lui qui est béni pour tous les siècles: Amen!
26 Because of this, God handed them over to shameful passions. For example, their females have exchanged the natural use of the body for a use which is against nature.	26 Et c’est pourquoi Dieu les a livrés à des passions honteuses. Leurs femmes maintenant remplacent les relations normales par la perversion sexuelle.
27 And similarly, the males also, abandoning the natural use of females, have burned in their desires for one another: males doing with males what is disgraceful, and receiving within themselves the recompense that necessarily results from their error.	27 De même les hommes ne veulent pas de la relation normale avec la femme: ils brûlent de passion les uns pour les autres. Ils font entre hommes des choses honteuses, et ainsi ils reçoivent dans leur propre personne le châtiment dû à leur égarement.
28 And since they did not prove to have God by knowledge, God handed them over to a morally depraved way of thinking, so that they might do those things which are not fitting:	28 Puisqu’ils n’ont pas jugé important de connaître Dieu, Dieu à son tour les a abandonnés aux erreurs de leur propre jugement, de sorte qu’ils font tout ce qu’il ne faut pas.
29 having been completely filled with all iniquity, malice, fornication, avarice, wickedness; full of envy, murder, contention, deceit, malice, gossiping;	29 Chez eux on ne trouve qu’injustice, perversité, avarice, méchanceté; ils sont pleins d’envie, de meurtres, de querelles, de tromperie, de mauvaise volonté, de médisances
30 slanderous, hateful toward God, abusive, arrogant, self-exalting, devisers of evil, disobedient to parents,	30 et de calomnies. Ils défient Dieu, ils sont orgueilleux, insolents, vantards, habiles pour faire le mal, insoumis à leurs parents,
31 foolish, disorderly; without affection, without fidelity, without mercy.	31 sans conscience, déloyaux, sans amour ni miséricorde.
32 And these, though they had known the justice of God, did not understand that those who act in such a manner are deserving of death, and not only those who do these things, but also those who consent to what is done.	32 Ils connaissent les lois de Dieu et savent qu’en faisant tout cela on mérite la mort. Mais ils le font et ils approuvent ceux qui le font.
