1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:	1 Il Signore parlò a Mosè, dicendo:
2 “Speak to the sons of Israel, and receive from each of them a rod by their kinships, from all the leaders of the tribes, twelve rods, and write the name of each one on his rod.	2 « Parla ai figli d'Israele, e prendi da loro una verga per ciascuna tribù, dodici verghe da tutti i principi delle tribù; scriverai il nome di ciascun di essi sopra la sua verga;
3 But the name of Aaron shall be for the tribe of Levi, and one rod separately shall contain all their families.	3 ma per la tribù di Levi vi sarà il nome di Aronne: ciascuna verga conterrà separatamente tutte le famiglie.
4 And you shall place these in the tabernacle of the covenant before the testimony, where I will speak to you.	4 Le metterai nel Tabernacolo dell'alleanza, davanti alla testimonianza, dove ti parlerò.
5 Whomever of these I will choose, his rod will germinate, and so shall I restrain the complaints of the sons of Israel before me, by which they murmur against you.”	5 La verga dell'eletto fiorirà: cosi farò cessare le querele colle quali i figli d'Israele mormorano contro di voi ».
6 And Moses spoke to the sons of Israel. And all the leaders gave him rods, one for each tribe. And there were twelve rods, aside from the rod of Aaron.	6 Mosè ne parlò ai figli d'Israele, e tutti i principi gli diedero le verghe, una per tribù, e furon dodici senza quella d'Aronne.
7 And when Moses had placed these before the Lord, in the tabernacle of the testimony,	7 Mosè le pose davanti al Signore nel Tabernacolo della testimonianza,
8 returning on the following day, he found that the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi, had germinated, and that the swelling buds had opened into flowers, which, spreading their petals, were formed into those of an almond tree.	8 e, tornatovi il giorno dopo, trovò che la verga d'Aronne, per la tribù di Levi, aveva germogliato e messe le gemme da cui ne erano usciti i fiori che, apertesi le foglie, si convertirono in mandorle.
9 Therefore, Moses brought out all the rods, from the sight of the Lord, to all the sons of Israel. And they saw, and each one received their rods.	9 Allora Mosè, tolte tutte le verghe dal cospetto del Signore, le portò a tutti i figli d'Israele, i quali, vedutele, ripresero ciascuno la sua.
10 And the Lord said to Moses: “Carry back the rod of Aaron into the tabernacle of the testimony, so that it may be kept there as a sign of the rebellion of the sons of Israel, and so that their complaints may be quieted before me, lest they die.”	10 E il Signore disse a Mosè: « Riporta la verga di Aronne nel Tabernacolo della testimonianza, perchè vi sia custodita come segno ai ribelli figli d'Israele, che cessino di mormorare contro di me e non muoiano ».
11 And Moses did just as the Lord had instructed.	11 Mosè fece quanto il Signore aveva ordinato.
12 Then the sons of Israel said to Moses: “Behold, we have been consumed; we have been ruined.	12 Ma i figli d'Israele dissero a Mosè: « Ecco siamo distrutti, siamo tutti sterminati!
13 Whoever approaches to the tabernacle of the Lord dies. Will we all be wiped away, even to total annihilation?”	13 Chiunque s'accosta al Tabernacolo del Signore muore; dovremo noi esser tutti distrutti fino allo sterminio? »
