Hosea 12

1 Ephraim feeds on wind and follows burning heat; all day long he multiplies lies and desolation. And he has entered into a pact with the Assyrians, and he has carried oil into Egypt.	1 Éphraïm m’a entouré de mensonges, la maison d’Israël me trompe; il reste attaché au Baal et fidèle à ses divinités.
2 Therefore, the judgment of the Lord is with Judah and a visitation is upon Jacob. He will repay him according to his ways and according to his inventions.	2 Éphraïm se nourrit d’illusions, tout le jour il poursuit le vent d’est. Il multiplie mensonges et violences; il conclut une alliance avec l’Assyrie tout en flattant l’Égypte.
3 In the womb, he supplanted his brother; for in his good fortune, he had been guided by an angel.	3 Aussi Yahvé est-il en procès avec Israël; il va demander des comptes à Jacob pour sa conduite et le punir pour ses méfaits.
4 And he prevailed over an angel, for he had been strengthened. He wept and petitioned him. He found him in Bethel, and there he has spoken to us.	4 Dès le sein maternel il est passé devant son frère et, à l’âge mûr il a lutté avec Dieu.
5 And the Lord God of hosts, the Lord is his memorial.	5 Il a lutté avec l’ange et il a gagné; il l’implora et lui demanda grâce. Il le rencontra à Béthel et là Dieu lui a parlé.
6 And so, you should convert to your God. Keep mercy and judgment, and have hope in your God always.	6 (Yahvé, le Dieu Sabaot dont le nom est Yahvé.
7 Canaan, in his hand is a deceitful balance, he has chosen false accusations.	7 Et toi, reviens à ton Dieu, pratique l’amour et la justice, et espère en ton Dieu toujours.)
8 And Ephraim has said, “Nevertheless, I have become rich; I have found an idol for myself. All of my labors will not reveal to me the iniquity that I have committed.”	8 C’est un vrai Cananéen, qui tient une balance fausse et qui aime tricher.
9 And I, the Lord your God from the land of Egypt, nevertheless will cause you to dwell in tabernacles, just as during the days of the feast.	9 Éphraïm a beau dire: “Je me suis enrichi, j’ai acquis un trésor”, il ne gardera rien de tout ce qu’il a amassé, car il faisait le mal.
10 And I have spoken through the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and I have used parables through the hands of the prophets.	10 Moi, Yahvé, qui suis ton Dieu depuis le pays d’Égypte, je te ferai retourner sous la tente comme au jour du Rendez-Vous.
11 If Gilead is an idol, then they have been sacrificing cattle in Gilgal to no purpose. For even their altars are like clutter on the soil of the field.	11 Je parlerai aux prophètes, je multiplierai les visions et je dirai des paraboles par la bouche des prophètes.
12 Jacob fled into the region of Syria, and Israel served like a wife, and was served by a wife.	12 À Galaad c’est le crime, mais eux ne sont que mensonge; à Guilgal ils offrent des sacrifices à des taureaux, mais leurs autels deviendront des tas de pierres dans les champs.
13 Yet by a prophet the Lord led Israel out of Egypt, and he was served by a prophet.	13 Jacob s’était enfui aux campagnes d’Aram, Israël avait travaillé pour une femme; pour une femme il s’était fait gardien.
14 Ephraim has provoked me to wrath with his bitterness, and his blood will overcome him, and his Lord will requite him for his shamefulness.	14 Mais par un prophète Yahvé a fait monter Israël d’Égypte, il se l’est gardé grâce à un prophète.
	15 Éphraïm a gravement péché, c’est pourquoi Yahvé fera retomber sur lui le sang versé, son Seigneur lui retournera ses affronts.
