Lamentations 4

1 ALEPH. O how the gold has become dulled, the finest color has been altered, the stones of the sanctuary have been scattered at the head of every street.	1 Come mai s'è annerito l'oro, s'è offuscato l'oro più puro, disperse le pietre sacre all'imbocco di tutte le strade?
2 BETH. The famous sons of Zion, and those clothed with the foremost gold: how they have become like earthen vessels, the work of the hands of a potter.	2 I figli di Sion, i preziosi, i valutati a prezzo d'oro fino, come mai sono stimati vasi d'argilla, lavoro di mani di vasaio?
3 GHIMEL. Yet even savages expose their breast and give milk to their young. But the daughter of my people is cruel, like the ostrich in the desert.	3 Pure gli sciacalli porgono la mammella e allattano i loro piccoli; la figlia del mio popolo s'è fatta crudele come gli struzzi nel deserto!
4 DALETH. The tongue of the infant adheres to his palate out of thirst. The little ones have asked for bread, and there was no one to break it for them.	4 S'è incollata la lingua del lattante al suo palato per la sete; i bambini domandavano pane e non v'era chi lo spezzasse loro.
5 HE. Those who were fed indulgently have passed away in the roads. Those who were nourished with saffron have welcomed filth.	5 Quelli che mangiavano cibi deliziosi languivano per le strade; quelli ch'erano allevati sulla porpora abbracciavano letame!
6 VAU. And the iniquity of the daughter of my people has been made greater than the sin of Sodom, which was overthrown in a moment, and yet hands did not take captives in her.	6 Oh, fu grande la colpa della figlia del mio popolo, più del peccato di Sodoma, che fu sconvolta in un momento senza che mani le si avventassero contro!
7 ZAIN. Her Nazirites were whiter than snow, shinier than milk, more ruddy than ancient ivory, more beautiful than sapphire.	7 I suoi giovani erano più puri della neve, erano più candidi del latte, più rossa dei coralli la loro carne, la loro figura era zaffiro.
8 HETH. Their face has been blacked more than coals, and they are not recognized in the streets. Their skin has adhered to their bones; it dried out and became like wood.	8 S'è oscurato più della notte il loro aspetto, non si riconoscono più nelle strade; s'è aggrinzita la loro pelle sulle loro ossa, è diventata secca come legno.
9 TETH. It was better for those slain by the sword, than for those put to death by famine. For these waste away, being consumed by the sterility of the land.	9 Più fortunati sono gli uccisi di spada che i martiri per la fame, che svenivano, estenuati, per mancanza di frutti del campo.
10 JOD. The hands of pitiable women have boiled their sons. They became their food in the grief of the daughter of my people.	10 Mani di donne pur tenerissime hanno cotto i loro nati, fàttisi cibo per loro nella rovina della figlia del mio popolo.
11 CAPH. The Lord has completed his fury; he has poured out the wrath of his indignation. And he has kindled a fire in Zion, and it has devoured its foundations.	11 Ha sfogato il Signore il suo furore, versato l'ardore della sua ira; ha acceso un fuoco contro Sion, che ha divorato le sue fondamenta.
12 LAMED. The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world, did not believe that the adversary and the enemy would enter through the gates of Jerusalem.	12 Non credevano i re della terra e tutti gli abitanti del mondo che sarebbero entrati avversario e nemico per le porte di Gerusalemme.
13 MEM. It is because of the sins of her prophets, and the iniquities of her priests, who have shed the blood of the just in her midst.	13 E' stato per i peccati dei suoi profeti e per le iniquità dei suoi sacerdoti, che avevano versato in mezzo ad essa il sangue dei giusti.
14 NUN. They have wandered in the streets like the blind; they have been defiled with blood. And when they were not able, they held their garments.	14 Barcollavano come ciechi per le strade sporchi di sangue; no, non si poteva neppure toccare le loro vesti.
15 SAMECH. “Go back, you polluted ones!” they cried out to them. “Go back, go away, do not touch!” Of course, they argued, and being removed, they said among the Gentiles, “He will no longer dwell among them.”	15 "Scostatevi! Immondi!" si gridava loro: "Scostatevi, scostatevi! Non toccate!". Fuggivano e andavano errando fra le genti, senza tenere fissa dimora.
16 PHE. The face of the Lord has divided them. He will no longer respect them. They were not ashamed before the faces of the priests, nor did they take pity on the elderly.	16 Il volto del Signore li ha dispersi, non continuerà più a guardarli! Non si è avuto riguardo per i sacerdoti, non si è avuto pietà degli anziani.
17 AIN. While we were still standing, our eyes failed, expecting help for us in vain, when we looked attentively toward a nation that was not able to save.	17 Si consumavano i nostri occhi nell'attesa di un vano soccorso. Dalle nostre vedette scrutavamo una gente che non può salvare.
18 SADE. Our footsteps have slipped on the paths of our own streets. Our end draws near. Our days have been completed, for our end has arrived.	18 Osservavano i nostri passi, perché non ci recassimo sulle nostre piazze; prossima è la nostra fine, compiuti i nostri giorni, sì, è giunta la nostra fine.
19 COPH. Our persecutors have been swifter than the eagles of the sky. They have been pursuing us above the mountains; they have lain in wait for us in the desert.	19 Più veloci sono stati i nostri persecutori che le aquile del cielo; ci hanno inseguito sui monti e teso inganni nel deserto.
20 RES. The spirit of our mouth, Christ the Lord, has been captured by our sins; to him, we said, “In your shadow, we will live among the Gentiles.”	20 Il soffio delle nostre narici, l'Unto del Signore, è stato catturato nelle loro fosse, lui del quale dicevamo: "Alla sua ombra noi vivremo fra le genti".
21 SIN. Be glad and rejoice, O daughter of Edom, who dwells in the Land of Uz. The cup will also pass to you; you will be inebriated as well as naked.	21 Rallégrati ed esulta, figlia di Edom, tu che siedi nella terra di Uz! Anche a te passerà il calice: ti ubriacherai e ti denuderai!
22 THAU. Your iniquity has been completed, O daughter of Zion. He will no longer send you away to captivity. He has visited your iniquity, O daughter of Edom; he has uncovered your sins.	22 E' stata espiata la tua colpa, figlia di Sion: non continuerà più a mandarti in esilio; ha visitato la tua iniquità, o figlia di Edom: ha svelato i tuoi peccati!
