1 And it happened that, in the seventh month, Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama of royal descent, with the nobles of the king, and accompanied by ten men, went to Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, at Mizpah. And they ate bread together there, in Mizpah.	1 Il settimo mese Ismaele figliuolo di Nathania, figliuolo di Efisama,che era della stirpe reale, con de' grandi del regno, cioè, con dieci uomini andò a trovar Godolia figliuolo di Ahicam in Masphath, e mangiarono alla stessa mensa in Masphath.
2 Then Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah, rose up, and the ten men who were with him, and they struck down Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, with the sword, and they killed him whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land.	2 E si alzò Ismaele figliuolo di Nathania, e i dieci uomini, che eran con lui, e uccisero Godolia figliuolo di Ahicam, figliuolo di Saphan, e dieder morte a colui, il quale dal re di Babilonia era stato posto al governo del paese.
3 Likewise, Ishmael struck down all the Jews who were with Gedaliah at Mizpah, with the Chaldeans who were found there, and the men of war.	3 E Ismaele uccise eziandio i Giudei, che erano in Masphath con Godolia, equanti Caldei vi si trovarono, e gli uomini di valore.
4 Then, on the second day after he had killed Gedaliah, while no one yet knew of it,	4 E il giorno seguente, dopoché egli avea ucciso Godolia, non sapendosi ancora il fatto da alcuno,
5 men arrived from Shechem, and from Shiloh, and from Samaria, eighty men, with their beards shaved, and their garments rent, and unbathed. And they had gifts and frankincense in hand, so that they might make an offering in the house of the Lord.	5 Arrivarono da Sichem, e da Silo,e dalla Samaria ottanta uomini colla barba rasa, e stracciate le vesti, e squallidi in volto, e portando in mano incenso, e doni per offerirli nella casa del Signore.
6 Therefore, Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah, departing from Mizpah to meet them, went forth weeping as he was walking. And when he had met them, he said to them, “Come to Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam.”	6 Ismaele adunque figliuolo di Nathania andò incontro a questa gente da Masphath, e camminava piangendo: e incontratili, disse loro: Venite da Godolia figliuolo di Ahicam.
7 And when they had arrived at the center of the city, Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah, put them to death around the public cistern, he and the men who were with him.	7 E quando quegli furono nel mezzo della città, Ismaele figliuolo di Nathania, e quegli uomini, che erano con lui, gli uccisero nel mezzo della cisterna.
8 But ten men were found among them, who said to Ishmael: “Do not kill us! For in the field we have storehouses of grain and barley and oil and honey.” And so he ceased, and he did not put them to death with their brothers.	8 Ma dieci uomini furon tra questi, i quali dissero a Ismaele: Non ammazzarci; perocché abbiam de' tesori alla campagna in grano, orzo, olio, e miele. Ed ei si rattenne, e non gli uccise come i loro fratelli.
9 Now the cistern, into which Ishmael cast all the dead bodies of the men whom he had struck down because of Gedaliah, is the same one that king Asa made out of fear of Baasha, the king of Israel. This same cistern Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah, filled with those who were slain.	9 E la cisterna, nella quale Ismaele gettò tutti i cadaveri di quella gente ammazzata da lui a cagione di Godolia, ella è quella stessa, che fu fatta dal re Asa a cagione di Baasa re d'Israele: e questa la riempiè Ismaele figliuolo di Nathania di corpi uccisi.
10 Then Ishmael led away captive all the remnant of the people who were at Mizpah, the king’s daughters as well as all the people who remained at Mizpah, whom Nebuzaradan, the leader of the military, had committed to Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam. And Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah, seized them and went away, so that he might go over to the sons of Ammon.	10 E fece prigioni tutti gli avanzi del popolo, che erano in Masphath, le figlie del re, e tutto il popolo, che era restato in Masphath, i quali da Nabuzardan capitano della milizia erano stati raccomandati a Godolia figliuolo di Ahicam. E Ismaele figliuolo di Nathania li prese, e se n'andò verso i figliuoli di Ammon.
11 But Johanan, the son of Kareah, and all the leaders of the fighters who were with him, heard about all the evil that Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah, had done.	11 Ma Johanan figliuolo di Caree, e tutti i capi delle milizie, che eran con esso, ebbero avviso di tutto il male fatto da Ismaele figliuolo di Nathania.
12 And taking all the men, they set out to make war against Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah. And they found him at the great waters that are in Gibeon.	12 E raunata tutta la loro gente, andarono per combattere contro Ismaele figliuolo di Nathania, e lo incontrarono presso la peschiera di Gabaon.
13 And when all the people who were with Ishmael had seen Johanan, the son of Kareah, and all the leaders of the fighters who were with him, they rejoiced.	13 E quando il popolo, che era con Ismaele, ebbe veduto Johanan figliuolo di Caree, e tutti i capi delle milizie, che venivan con lui, si rallegrarono tutti.
14 And all the people whom Ishmael had seized turned back to Mizpah. And they returned and went over to Johanan, the son of Kareah.	14 E tutta la gente, che era stata fatta prigione da Ismaele, se ne tornò a Masphath, e si diede a seguitare Johanan figliuolo di Caree.
15 But Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah, fled with eight men from the face of Johanan, and they went over to the sons of Ammon.	15 Ma Ismaele figliuolo da Nathania fuggi con otto persone l'incontro di Jonanan, e se n andò tra' figliuoli di Ammon.
16 Therefore, Johanan, the son of Kareah, and all the leaders of the fighters who were with him, took from Mizpah the entire remnant of the common people, whom they had led away from Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah, after he had struck down Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam. These were strong men of battle, and women, and children, and eunuchs: those whom he had led away from Gibeon.	16 Johanan adunque figliuolo di Caree, con tutti i capi delle milizie, che eran con lui, prese a Masphath tutti gli avanzi della plebe, che egli avea ritolti ad Ismaele figliuolo di Nathania, dopo che questi ebbe ucciso Godolia figliuolo di Ahicam: e prese gli uomini buoni per la guerra, e le donne, e i fanciulli, e gli eunuchi, che avea ricondotti da Gabaon,
17 And they went away and settled as sojourners at Chimham, which is near Bethlehem, so that they might continue on and enter into Egypt,	17 E se n'andarono, e si posarono di gassaggio in Chamaam, che è vicino a Bethlehem, per andar innanzi, ed entrar nell'Egitto,
18 away from the face of the Chaldeans. For they were afraid of them, because Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah, had struck down Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon had made governor in the land of Judah.	18 Fuggendo i Caldei; imperocché avean paura di essi, per avere Ismaele figljuolo di Nathania ucciso Godolia figliuolo di Ahicam, posto dal re di Babilonia al governo della terra di Giuda.
