In the ninth year of Zedekiah, the king of Judah, in the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, came to Jerusalem, with his entire army, and they besieged it.1 En el año nueve de Sedecías, rey de Judá, el décimo mes, vino Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, con todo su ejército contra Jerusalén, y la sitiaron.
Then, in the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, on the fifth of the month, the city was opened.2 En el año once de Sedecías, el cuarto mes, el nueve del mes, se abrió una brecha en la ciudad,
And all the rulers of the king of Babylon entered and were seated at the middle gate: Nergal-Sharezer, the priest of Nebo, Sarsechim, the chief eunuch, Nergal-Sharezer, the chief magi, and all the other rulers of the king of Babylon.3 y entraron todos los jefes del rey de Babilonia y se instalaron en la Puerta Central: Nergal Sareser, Samgar Nebo, Sar Sekim, jefe superior, Nergal Sareser, alto funcionario y todos los demás jefes del rey de Babilonia.
And when Zedekiah, the king of Judah, with all the men of war, had seen them, they fled. And they departed from the city at night, by way of the king’s garden, and through the gate which was between the two walls. And they departed along the way of the desert.4 Al verles Sedecías, rey de Judá, y todos los guerreros, huyeron de la ciudad salieron de noche camino del parque del rey por la puerta que está entre los dos muros, y se fueron por el camino de la Arabá.
But the army of the Chaldeans pursued them. And they overtook Zedekiah in the plain of the desert of Jericho. And having captured him, they led him to Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, at Riblah, which is in the land of Hamath. And he declared a judgment against him5 Las tropas caldeas les persiguieron y dando alcance a Sedecías en los llanos de Jericó, le prendieron y le subieron a Riblá, en tierra de Jamat, adonde Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, que lo sometió a juicio.
And the king of Babylon killed the sons of Zedekiah, at Riblah, before his eyes. And the king of Babylon killed all the nobles of Judah.6 Y el rey de Babilonia degolló a los hijos de Sedecías en Riblá a la vista de éste; luego el rey de Babilonia degolló a toda la aristocracia de Judá,
Also, he plucked out the eyes of Zedekiah. And he bound him with fetters, to be led away to Babylon.7 y habiendo cegado los ojos a Sedecías le ató con doble cadena de bronce para llevárselo a Babilonia.
Also, the Chaldeans burned the house of the king and the house of the people with fire, and they overturned the wall of Jerusalem.8 Los caldeos incendiaron la casa del rey y las casas del pueblo y demolieron los muros de Jerusalén;
And Nebuzaradan, the leader of the military, carried away captive to Babylon the remnant of the people who had remained in the city, and the fugitives who had fled to him, and all the rest of the people who had remained.9 cuanto al resto del pueblo que quedaba en la ciudad, a los desertores que se habían pasado a él y a los artesanos restantes los deportó Nebuzaradán, jefe de la guardia, a Babilonia.
And Nebuzaradan, the leader of the military, released some of the poor people, those who had almost nothing, into the land of Judah. And he gave them vineyards and cisterns in that day.10 En cuanto a la peble baja, los que no tienen nada, hízoles quedar Nebuzaradán, jefe de la guardia, en tierra de Judá, y en aquella ocasión les dio viñas y parcelas.
Now Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, had instructed Nebuzaradan, the leader of the military, about Jeremiah, saying:11 Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, había dado instrucciones a Nebuzaradán, jefe de la guardia, respecto a Jeremías en este sentido:
“Take him, and set your eyes on him, and you shall do no harm to him at all. But as he is willing, so shall you do with him.”12 «Préndele y tenle a la vista; y no le hagas daño alguno, antes harás con él lo que él mismo te diga».
Therefore, Nebuzaradan, the leader of the military, sent, and Nebushazban, the chief eunuch, and Nergal-Sharezer, the chief magi, and all the nobles of the king of Babylon sent,13 Entonces (Nebuzaradán, jefe de la guardia) Nebusazbán, jefe superior, Nergal Sareser, oficial superior, y todos los grandes del rey de Babilonia
and they took Jeremiah from the vestibule of the prison, and they delivered him to Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, so that he could enter a house and live among the people.14 enviaron en busca de Jeremías, y lo confiaron a Godolías, hijo de Ajicam, hijo de Safán, para que le hiciese salir a casa, y permaneció entre la gente.
But the word of the Lord had come to Jeremiah, when he had been confined to the vestibule of the prison, saying: “Go, and speak to Ebedmelech, the Ethiopian, saying:15 Estando Jeremías detenido en el patio de la guardia, le había sido dirigida la palabra de Yahveh en estos términos:
Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring my words over this city for evil, and not for good; and they shall be in your sight in that day.16 Vete y dices a Ebed Mélek el kusita: Así dice Yahveh Sebaot, el Dios de Israel: Mira que yo hago llegar mis palabras a esta ciudad para su daño, que no para su bien, y tú serás testigo en aquel día,
And I will free you in that day, says the Lord. And you will not be delivered into the hands of the men whom you dread.17 pero yo te salvaré a ti aquel día - oráculo de Yahveh - y no serás puesto en manos de aquellos cuya presencia evitas temeroso,
But when delivering, I will free you. And you will not fall by the sword. Instead, your life will be saved for you, because you had faith in me, says the Lord.”18 antes bien te libraré, y no caerás a espada. Saldrás ganando la propia vida, porque confiaste en mí - oráculo de Yahveh.
