CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINEL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
The Lord also said to Moses: Speak to the priests, the sons of Aaron, and you shall say to them: Do not allow a priest to be contaminated by the death of his citizens,1 El Señor dijo a Moisés: Habla en estos términos a los sacerdotes hijos de Aarón: Nadie deberá incurrir en impureza por el cadáver de alguno de los suyos,
except only by his blood-relatives and near-relatives, that is, by a father or mother, or by a son or daughter, or also a brother,2 a no ser que se trate de un paciente muy cercano: su madre, su padre, su hijo, su hija o su hermano;
or a virgin sister, who is not married to a husband.3 o por el cadáver de una hermana virgen, que estaba muy próxima a él, porque aún no se había casado.
But not even by the leader of his people shall he be contaminated.4 Pero nadie podrá incurrir en impureza ni profanarse por una mujer casada de su familia.
Neither shall they shave their head or their beard, and they shall not make incisions in their flesh.5 Los sacerdotes no se raparán la cabeza, ni se cortarán los bordes de la barba, ni se harán incisiones en el cuerpo.
They shall be holy to their God, and they shall not pollute his name. For they offer the incense of the Lord and the bread of their God, and because of this they shall be holy.6 Estarán consagrados a su Dios y no profanaran el nombre de su Dios; porque son los presentan las ofrendas que se queman para el Señor –el alimento de su Dios– y por eso deben ser santos.
They shall not take as a wife a promiscuous woman, or a prostitute, or her who has been repudiated by her husband. For they are consecrated to their God,7 Tampoco se casarán con una mujer envilecida por la prostitución, ni con una mujer divorciada de su marido, porque el sacerdote está consagrado a su Dios.
and they offer the bread of the presence. Therefore, let them be holy, for I also am holy: the Lord, who sanctifies them.8 Deberás considerarlo santo, porque él ofrece el alimento de tu Dios. Será santo para ti, porque yo, el Señor que te santifico, soy santo.
If the daughter of a priest will have been taken into prostitution, and will have violated the name of her father, she shall be consumed by fire.9 Si la hija de un sacerdote se envilece a sí misma prostituyéndose, envilece a su propio padre, y por eso será quemada.
The high priest, that is, the priest who is the greatest among his brothers, upon whose head the oil of anointing has been poured, and whose hands have been consecrated for the priesthood, and who has been vested with the holy vestments: he shall not expose his head; he shall not rend his vestments.10 El sacerdote que tiene la preeminencia entre sus hermanos, aquel sobre cuya cabeza fue derramado el óleo de la unción y que recibió la investidura para usar los ornamentos, no llevará los cabellos sueltos ni rasgará sus vestiduras;
And he shall not enter to any dead body whatsoever; likewise, not even by his father or mother shall he be contaminated.11 no entrará donde haya un cadáver ni incurrirá en impureza, aunque sea por su padre o por su madre.
Neither shall he exit from the holy places, lest he pollute the Sanctuary of the Lord. For the oil of the holy anointing of his God is upon him. I am the Lord.12 Tampoco se alejará del Santuario de Dios, para no profanarlo, porque él tiene sobre sí la consagración conferida con el óleo de la unción de su dios. Yo soy el Señor.
He shall take a virgin as his wife.13 El sacerdote deberá tomar por esposa a una virgen.
But a widow, or one who has been repudiated or defiled, or also a mistress, he shall not accept, but only a maiden from among his own people.14 No se casará con una viuda, ni con una divorciada, ni con una mujer envilecida por la prostitución. Lo hará solamente con una virgen de su propio pueblo,
He shall not mingle the stock of his family with the common people of his nation. For I am the Lord, who sanctifies him.15 para no profanar su descendencia en medio de su pueblo, porque yo soy el señor, que lo santifico.
And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:16 El Señor siguió diciendo a Moisés:
Say to Aaron: A man from your offspring, throughout their families, who has a blemish, shall not offer the bread to his God.17 Habla en estos términos a Aarón: Ninguno de tus descendientes que tenga un defecto corporal se acercará a ofrecer el alimento de su Dios, a lo largo de las generaciones.
Neither shall he approach to minister to him: if he is blind, if he is lame, if he is small, or large, or has a crooked nose,18 No podrá acercarse nadie que tenga un defecto corporal: ninguno que sea ciego, rengo, desfigurado o deforme;
if his foot or hand is broken,19 que tenga la pierna o el brazo rotos;
if he has a bulging back or bleary eyes, or if he has a white spot in his eye, or a chronic scab, or a skin disease on his body, or a hernia.20 que sea jorobado o raquítico; que tenga una mancha en los ojos; que está enfermo de sarna o de tiña, o que esté castrado.
Anyone from the offspring of Aaron, the priest, who has a blemish, shall not approach to offer sacrifices to the Lord, nor the bread to his God.21 Ningún descendiente del sacerdote Aarón que tenga un defecto presentará las ofrendas que se queman para el Señor; por tener un defecto, no se acercará a presentar el alimento de su Dios.
Nevertheless, he shall eat from the loaves which are offered in the Sanctuary.22 Podrá comer, en cambio, el alimento de su dios, tanto las cosas santísimas como olas santas.
But even so, he may not enter within the veil, nor approach to the altar. For he has a blemish, and he must not contaminate my Sanctuary. I am the Lord, who sanctifies them.23 Pero no entrará detrás del velo ni se acercará al altar; él tiene un defecto corporal y no debe profanar esos lugares que me están consagrados, porque yo soy el Señor, que los santifico.
Therefore, Moses spoke to Aaron, and to his sons, and to all of Israel, everything that had been commanded to him.24 Así habló Moisés a Aarón y a sus hijos, y a todos los israelitas.
