CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINEL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
Woe to you who plunder! Will you yourselves not also be plundered? And woe to you who despise! Will you yourselves not also be despised? When you will have completed your plundering, you will be plundered. When, out of fatigue, you will have ceased acting with contempt, you will be treated with contempt.1 ¡Ay de ti, devastador que no has sido devastado, traidor, a quien no han traicionado! Cuando termines de devastar, serás devastado, cuando acabes de traicionar, te traicionarán a ti.
O Lord, take pity on us. For we have waited for you. Be our arm in the morning and our salvation in the time of tribulation.2 Señor, ten piedad de nosotros, nosotros esperamos en ti. Sé nuestro brazo cada mañana y nuestra salvación en el tiempo de la angustia.
From the voice of the Angel, the people fled. And from your exultation, the nations were scattered.3 Al estruendo de tu voz, huyen los pueblos; cuando te alzas, se dispersan las naciones.
And your spoils will be gathered together, just as the locusts are collected when the ditches have become filled with them.4 Como arrasa la oruga, se recoge el botín; se abalanzan sobre él, como una bandada de langostas.
The Lord has been magnified, because he has lived on high. He has filled Zion with judgment and justice.5 El Señor es sublime porque habita en las alturas: él llena a Sión con el derecho y la justicia,
And there will be faith in your times: the riches of salvation, wisdom and knowledge. For the fear of the Lord is his treasure.6 él será la seguridad de tus días. La sabiduría y la ciencia son la riqueza salvadora; el temor del Señor, ese es su tesoro.
Behold, outside, those who see will cry out. The Angels of peace will weep bitterly.7 La gente de Ariel grita por las calles, los mensajeros de paz lloran amargamente.
The roads have become desolate. Travelers have ceased along the paths. The covenant has been nullified. He has tossed aside cities. He has disregarded men.8 Los senderos están desolados, nadie transita por los caminos. Se ha roto la alianza, se rechaza a los testigos, no se tiene en cuenta a nadie.
The earth has mourned and languished. Lebanon has been confounded and desecrated. And Sharon has become like a desert. And Bashan and Carmel have been struck together.9 La tierra está de duelo y desfallece, el Líbano pierde el color y se marchita, el Sarón se ha convertido en una estepa, el Basán y el Carmelo se deshojan.
“Now, I will rise up!” says the Lord. “Now I will be exalted! Now I will lift myself up!”10 «Ahora me levantaré, dice el Señor, ahora me erguiré. ahora me alzaré.
You will conceive heat. You will give birth to stubble. Your own spirit will devour you like fire.11 Ustedes han concebido hecho y darán a luz paja; mi soplo es un fuego que los va a devorar.
And the people will be like the ashes from a fire. They will be consumed by fire like a bundle of thorns.12 Los pueblos serán calcinados, como espinas cortadas, arderán en el fuego.
“You who are far away, listen to what I have done! And you who are near, acknowledge my strength!”13 Los que están lejos, escuchen lo que hice; los que están cerca, reconozcan mi poder».
The sinners in Zion are terrified; trembling has taken hold of the hypocrites. Who among you is able to live with a devouring fire? Who among you will live with an everlasting flame?14 Están aterrados en Sión los pecadores, un temblor invade a los impíos: «¿Quién de nosotros habitará en una hoguera eterna?».
The one who walks in justice and speaks the truth, who casts out avarice with oppression and shakes all bribes from his hands, who blocks his ears so that he may not listen to blood, and closes his eyes so that he may not see evil.15 El que obra con justicia y que habla con rectitud, el que rehúsa una ganancia extorsionada, el que sacude sus manos para no retener el soborno, el que tapa sus oídos a las propuestas sanguinarias, el que cierra los ojos para no ver la maldad:
Such a one will live on high; the fortification of rocks will be his lofty place. Bread has been given to him; his waters are reliable.16 ese hombre habitará en las alturas, rocas fortificadas serán su baluarte, se le dará su pan y tendrá el agua asegurada.
His eyes will see the king in his elegance; they will discern the land from far away.17 Tus ojos verán a un rey en su hermosura, contemplarán un país que se extiende a lo lejos.
Your heart will meditate on fear. Where are the learned? Where are those who ponder the words of the law? Where are the teachers of little ones?18 Tú evocarás lo que te horrorizaba: «¿Dónde está el que contaba, donde el que pesaba, dónde el que numeraba las torres?».
You will not look upon a shameless people, a people of exalted words. For you are not able to understand the dissertation of a tongue in which there is no wisdom.19 Ya no verás más a aquel pueblo brutal, aquel pueblo de lengua impenetrable, que tartamudea en un idioma incomprensible.
Look with favor upon Zion, the city of our solemnity. Your eyes will behold Jerusalem: an opulent habitation, a tabernacle that can never be taken away. Its stakes will not be taken away forever, nor will any of its cords be broken.20 Mira a Sión, la ciudad de nuestras fiestas, que tus ojos vean a Jerusalén, morada tranquila, carpa que no será desplazada, cuyas estacas no serán arrancadas y cuyas cuerdas no se romperán.
For only in that place has our Lord been magnified. It is a place of rivers, very broad and open. No ship with oars will cross through it, nor will the great Greek ship pass through it.21 Porque allí el Señor se muestra magnífico con nosotros, como un lugar de ríos, de canales anchurosos, por donde no circula ningún barco a remos ni atraviesa ningún navío poderoso.
For the Lord is our judge. The Lord is our lawgiver. The Lord is our king. He himself will save us.22 Porque el Señor es nuestro Juez, el Señor es nuestro Legislador, el Señor es nuestro Rey: él nos salvará.
Your ropes have become loose, and they will not prevail. Your mast will be such that you will not be able to unfurl a flag. Then the spoils of much plunder will be divided. The lame will seize the spoils.23 ¡Se aflojan tus cordajes, ya no sostienen el mástil, ni se despliega el pabellón!
He who is nearby will not say: “I am too weak.” The people who live in it will have their iniquity taken away from them.24 Ningún habitante dirá: «Me siento mal», y al pueblo que habita allí le será perdonada su culpa.
