Sirach 39

1 A wise man will seek the wisdom of all the ancients, and he will be occupied in the prophets.	1 Il saggio indagherà la sapienza di tutti gli antichi, e farà studio nei profeti.
2 He will preserve the words of renowned men, and he will enter with them into the subtleties of parables.	2 Raccoglierà le spiegazioni degli uomini illustri, e insieme penetrerà le sottigliezze delle parabole,
3 He will search for the hidden meanings of proverbs, and he will become familiar with the mysteries of parables.	3 Estrarrà la sostanza degli oscuri proverbi, e si occuperà nello studio degli enimmi allegorici.
4 He will minister in the midst of great men, and he will appear in the sight of the foremost leader.	4 Egli assisterà in mezzo ai magnati, e starà dinanzi a quei, che presiedono.
5 He will pass through the land of foreign nations. For he will test good and evil among men.	5 Egli passerà nei paesi di stranie genti per riconoscere quel, che v'è di bene, e di male tragli uomini.
6 At first light, he will offer his heart with watchfulness to the Lord who made him, and he will pray in the sight of the Most High.	6 Egli di buon mattino svegliandosi, il cuor suo rivolgerà al Signore, che lo creò, e nel cospetto dell'Altissimo farà sua orazione.
7 He will open his mouth in prayer, and he will make supplication for his offenses.	7 Aprirà la sua bocca ad orare, e ehiederà misericordia pe' suoi peccati;
8 For if the great Lord is willing, he will fill him with the Spirit of understanding.	8 Perocché se il gran padrone vorrà, lo riempierà di spirito d'intelligenza:
9 And he will send forth the eloquence of his wisdom like rain showers, and in his prayer, he will confess to the Lord.	9 Ed egli spanderà come pioggia gli insegnamenti di sua sapienza, e al Signor darà lode nella orazione:
10 And he will direct his counsel and his discipline, and he will meditate on his mysteries.	10 E metterà in pratica i consigli, e i documenti di lui, e mediterà gli occulti giudizi di lui.
11 He will make the discipline of his doctrine clear, and he will glory in the law of the covenant of the Lord.	11 Egli esporrà pubblicamente la dottrina, che ha apparata, e nella legge del testamento porrà sua gloria.
12 Many persons will together praise his wisdom, and it will never be abolished, for all ages.	12 La sapienza di lui sarà celebrata da molti, e non sarà dimenticata in eterno.
13 The memory of him will not fade away, and his name will be sought from generation to generation.	13 Non perirà la memoria di lui, e il suo nome sarà ripetuto d'una in altra generazione.
14 The peoples will declare his wisdom, and the Church will announce his praise.	14 La sua sapienza sarà predicata dalle nazioni, e le lodi di lui saran celebrate nella Chiesa.
15 While he remains, he leaves behind a name greater than a thousand, and when he will rest, it will be to his benefit.	15 Finché egli viverà, avrà maggior fama, che mille altri, e se anderà al suo riposo, ciò sarà utile a lui.
16 I will meditate further, so that I may explain. For I have been filled with a passion.	16 Io seguiterò ad esporre i miei pensieri, perocché io son ripieno come di sagro furore.
17 In a voice, he says: Listen to me, divine fruits. You shall bear fruit, like roses planted beside streams of waters.	17 Una voce dice: Ascoltate me, progenie di Dio, e germogliate come un rosaio piantato lungo la corrente dell'acque.
18 You shall have a sweet fragrance, like the cedars of Lebanon.	18 Spandete soave odore come l'albero dell'incenso.
19 Blossom with flowers, like the lily, and diffuse a fragrance, and sprout leaves in grace, and give praise with canticles, and bless the Lord in his works.	19 Buttate fiori simili al giglio, spirate odori, gettate amene frondi, e date cantici di laude, e benedite il Signore nelle opere sue.
20 Give magnificence to his name, and confess to him with the voice of your lips and with the canticles of your mouth and with stringed instruments. And in so praising him, you will confess:	20 Magnificate il suo nome, e date lode a lui colle parole di vostra bocca, e co' cantici delle vostre labbra, e al suon delle cetere, e così direte in lodandolo:
21 All the works of the Lord are very good.	21 Tutte le opere del Signore sono buone grandemente.
22 At his word, the waters stood still, as if piled together. And at the words of his mouth, the waters were contained, as if in basins of water.	22 Alla parola di lui l'acqua si stette come in una massa, e come in un serbatoio di acque a una parola della sua bocca.
23 For it is made pleasing by his precept, and there is no decrease in his salvation.	23 Perocché tutto divien favorevole quand'ei comanda, e la salute, ch'ei da è perfetta.
24 The works of all flesh are in his sight, and there is nothing hidden from his eyes.	24 A lui sono presenti le azioni di tutti gli uomini, e nissuna cosa è celata agli occhi di lui.
25 His gaze is from eternity to eternity, and nothing is a wonder in his sight.	25 Egli vede da un secolo all'altro, e nissuna cosa è mirabile dinanzi a lui.
26 Let it not be said: “What is this?” or, “What is that?” For all things will be sought in their time.	26 Non occorre dire: Che è questo? ovvero, che è quello? perocché ogni cosa a suo tempo verrà a proposito.
27 His blessing has overflowed like a river.	27 La benedizione di lui è come un fiume, che inonda:
28 In the same way that a flood inundates the dry land, so also will his wrath inherit the peoples that have not sought him.	28 Come il diluvio inzuppò l'arida terra, cosi l'ira di lui prenderà possesso delle genti, le quali non lo hanno cercato.
29 In the same way that he turned the waters into dry land, and made the earth dry, and just as his ways have been directed for their journey, so also will sinners stumble before his wrath.	29 Siccome egli le acque converse in siccità, e il fondo rimase asciutto, e la via fatta da lui fu comoda al loro viaggio, cosi i peccatori per effetto dell'ira di lui vi trovarono inciampo.
30 From the beginning, good things were created for those who are good, and similarly, good and evil things are for those who are wicked.	30 I beni furon fatti pe' buoni fin da principio, e parimente pe' malvagi i beni, e i mali.
31 The principal things necessary for the life of men are: water, fire, and iron, salt, milk, and flour for bread, and honey, and the grape cluster, and oil, and clothing.	31 La somma di quel, che è necessario alla vita dell'uomo, ell'è l'acqua, il fuoco, e il ferro, e il sale, il latte, la farina di frumento, e il miele, e il grap polo dell'uva, e l'olio, e il vestimento.
32 All these things will be used for good by those who are holy, but they will be turned to evil use by the impious and by sinners.	32 Tutte queste cose sono un bene pe' santi; ma per gli empj, e pe' peccatori si convertono in male.
33 There are spirits that have been created for vengeance, and they strengthen their torments by their fury.	33 Vi son degli spiriti creati ministri di vendetta, i quali nel loro furore fan soffrire continuamente i loro flagelli:
34 In the time of the consummation, they will pour forth their strength. And they will appease the fury of the One who made them.	34 Nel tempo della perdizione metteran tutto fuora il loro potere, e placheranno il furore di lui, che gli ha creati.
35 Fire, hail, famine, and death: all these were created for vengeance.	35 Il fuoco, la grandine, la fame, la morte, tutte queste cose furon fatte per gastigo:
36 The teeth of wild beasts, and scorpions, and serpents, and the spear: all these take vengeance upon the impious, unto utter destruction.	36 Come i denti delle fiere, gli scorpioni, e i serpenti, e la spada vendicatrice, che stermina gli empj.
37 At his command, they will feast. And they will be prepared upon the earth until they are needed. And in their time, they will not ignore his word.	37 Al comando di lui esulteranno, e staran sulla terra preparate al bisogno, e venuto il tempo non trasgrediranno la sua parola.
38 For this reason, from the beginning, I was strengthened, and I have meditated, and I have considered, and I have put these things in writing.	38 Per questo fin da principio io restai persuaso, ed ebbi questo sentimento, e questo fisso pensiero, che io lascio scritto.
39 All the works of the Lord are good, and he will provide for each work in its own hour.	39 Tutte le opere del Signore son buone, e ciascuna opera fornirà egli nell'ora sua.
40 Let it not be said: “This is worse than that.” For all things will be tested in their time.	40 Non occorre dire: Questa cosa è peggiore di quella; perocché tutte le cose saranno approvate a suo tempo.
41 And now, with the whole heart and mouth, give praise to him, and bless the name of the Lord.	41 Or voi con tutto il cuore, e a piena bocca lodate insiememente, e benedite il nome del Signore.
