Proverbs 2

1 My son, if you would accept my words, and conceal my commandments within you,	1 Mon fils, si tu accueilles mes paroles, si tu conserves à part toi mes préceptes,
2 so that your ears may listen to wisdom, then bend your heart in order to know prudence.	2 rendant tes oreilles attentives à la sagesse, inclinant ton coeur vers l'intelligence,
3 For if you would call upon wisdom and bend your heart to prudence,	3 oui, si tu fais appel à l'entendement, si tu réclames l'intelligence,
4 if you will seek her like money, and dig for her as if for treasure,	4 si tu la recherches comme l'argent, si tu la creuses comme un chercheur de trésor,
5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and you will discover the knowledge of God.	5 alors tu comprendras la crainte de Yahvé, tu trouveras la connaissance de Dieu.
6 For the Lord bestows wisdom, and out of his mouth, prudence and knowledge.	6 Car c'est Yahvé qui donne la sagesse, de sa bouche sortent le savoir et l'intelligence.
7 He will preserve the salvation of the righteous, and he will protect those who walk in simplicity:	7 Il réserve aux hommes droits son conseil, il est le bouclier de ceux qui pratiquent l'honnêteté;
8 serving the paths of justice, and guarding the ways of sanctity.	8 il monte la garde aux chemins de l'équité, il veille sur la voie de ses fidèles.
9 Then you shall understand justice and judgment, and equity, and every good path.	9 Alors tu comprendras justice, équité et droiture, toutes les pistes du bonheur.
10 If wisdom is to enter into your heart, and if knowledge is to become pleasing to your soul,	10 Quand la sagesse entrera dans ton coeur, que le savoir fera les délices de ton âme,
11 then counsel must guard you, and prudence must serve you,	11 la prudence veillera sur toi, l'intelligence te gardera
12 so that you may be rescued from the evil way, and from the man who speaks perversities,	12 pour t'éloigner de la voie mauvaise, de l'homme aux propos pervers,
13 from those who leave the straight path to walk in dark ways,	13 de ceux qui délaissent les droits sentiers et vont courir par des voies ténébreuses;
14 who rejoice when they have done evil, and who exult in the most wicked things.	14 ils trouvent leur joie à faire le mal, ils se complaisent dans la perversité;
15 Their ways are perverse, and their steps are infamous.	15 leurs sentiers sont tortueux, leurs pistes sont obliques.
16 So may you be rescued from the foreign woman, and from the outsider, who softens her speech,	16 Pour te garder aussi de la femme étrangère, de l'inconnue aux paroles enjôleuses;
17 and who leaves behind the Guide of her youth,	17 elle a abandonné l'ami de sa jeunesse, elle a oublié l'alliance de son Dieu;
18 and who has forgotten the covenant of her God. For her household inclines toward death, and her paths toward Hell.	18 sa maison penche vers la mort, ses pistes conduisent vers les ombres.
19 All those who enter to her will not return again, nor will they take hold of the paths of life.	19 De ceux qui vont à elle, pas un ne revient, ils ne rejoignent plus les sentiers de la vie.
20 So may you walk in the good way, and keep to the difficult paths of the just.	20 Ainsi chemineras-tu dans la voie des gens de bien, garderas-tu le sentier des justes.
21 For those who are upright shall live upon the earth, and the simple shall continue upon it.	21 Car les hommes droits habiteront le pays, les gens honnêtes y demeureront,
22 Yet truly, the impious shall perish from the earth, and those who act unjustly shall be taken away from it.	22 mais les méchants seront retranchés du pays, les traîtres en seront arrachés.
