To David, when he changed his appearance in the sight of Abimelech, and so he dismissed him, and he went away.1 Rejoice, you just, in the LORD; praise from the upright is fitting.
I will bless the Lord at all times. His praise will be ever in my mouth.2 Give thanks to the LORD on the harp; on the ten-stringed lyre offer praise.
In the Lord, my soul will be praised. May the meek listen and rejoice.3 Sing to God a new song; skillfully play with joyful chant.
Magnify the Lord with me, and let us extol his name in itself.4 For the LORD'S word is true; all his works are trustworthy.
I sought the Lord, and he heeded me, and he carried me away from all my tribulations.5 The LORD loves justice and right and fills the earth with goodness.
Approach him and be enlightened, and your faces will not be confounded.6 By the LORD'S word the heavens were made; by the breath of his mouth all their host.
This poor one cried out, and the Lord heeded him, and he saved him from all his tribulations.7 The waters of the sea were gathered as in a bowl; in cellars the deep was confined.
The Angel of the Lord will encamp around those who fear him, and he will rescue them.8 Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all who dwell in the world show reverence.
Taste and see that the Lord is sweet. Blessed is the man who hopes in him.9 For he spoke, and it came to be, commanded, and it stood in place.
Fear the Lord, all you his saints. For there is no destitution for those who fear him.10 The LORD foils the plan of nations, frustrates the designs of peoples.
The rich have been needy and hungry, but those who seek the Lord will not be deprived of any good thing.11 But the plan of the LORD stands forever, wise designs through all generations.
Come forward, sons. Listen to me. I will teach you the fear of the Lord.12 Happy the nation whose God is the LORD, the people chosen as his very own.
Which is the man who wills life, who chooses to see good days?13 From heaven the LORD looks down and observes the whole human race,
Prohibit your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit.14 Surveying from the royal throne all who dwell on earth.
Turn away from evil, and do good. Inquire about peace, and pursue it.15 The one who fashioned the hearts of them all knows all their works.
The eyes of the Lord are on the just, and his ears are with their prayers.16 A king is not saved by a mighty army, nor a warrior delivered by great strength.
But the countenance of the Lord is upon those who do evil, to perish the remembrance of them from the earth.17 Useless is the horse for safety; its great strength, no sure escape.
The just cried out, and the Lord heard them, and he freed them from all their tribulations.18 But the LORD'S eyes are upon the reverent, upon those who hope for his gracious help,
The Lord is near to those who are troubled in heart, and he will save the humble in spirit.19 Delivering them from death, keeping them alive in times of famine.
Many are the afflictions of the just, but from them all the Lord will free them.20 Our soul waits for the LORD, who is our help and shield.
The Lord preserves all of their bones, not one of them shall be broken.21 For in God our hearts rejoice; in your holy name we trust.
The death of a sinner is very harmful, and those who hate the just will fare badly.22 May your kindness, LORD, be upon us; we have put our hope in you.
The Lord will redeem the souls of his servants, and none of those who hope in him will fare badly.
