1 A Canticle in steps: of Solomon. Unless the Lord has built the house, those who build it have labored in vain. Unless the Lord has guarded the city, he who guards it watches in vain.	1 Cantico de' gradi di Salomone.Se il Signore non arà edificata la casa, inIvano si affaticarono coloro che la edificano. Se il Signore non arà guardata la città, invano vigilano coloro che la guardano.
2 It is in vain that you rise before daylight, that you rise up after you have sat down, you who chew the bread of sorrow. Whereas, to his beloved, he will give sleep.	2 A voi è vano levarvi inanzi la luce; levatevi dopo che arete seduto, voi che mangiate il pane del dolore. Quando avrà dato alli suoi diletti il sonno;
3 Behold, the inheritance of the Lord is sons, the reward is the fruit of the womb.	3 ecco la eredità del Signore, il frutto del ventre e li figliuoli della mercede.
4 Like arrows in the hand of the powerful, so are the sons of those who have been cast out.	4 Come sono le sagitte nella mano del potente, così sono figliuoli de' profeti apostoli.
5 Blessed is the man who has filled his desire from these things. He will not be confounded when he speaks to his enemies at the gate.	5 Beato l'uomo che di queste cose ha empiuto il suo desiderio; non si confunderà quando parlarà sulla porta alli nemici suoi.
