2 Chronicles 25

1 Amaziah was twenty-five years old when he had begun to reign. And he reigned for twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. The name of his mother was Jehoaddan, from Jerusalem.	1 Amasías tenía veinticinco años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó veintinueve años en Jerusalén. Su madre se llamaba Iehoadán, y era de Jerusalén.
2 And he accomplished good in the sight of the Lord. Yet truly, not with a perfect heart.	2 El hizo lo que es recto a los ojos del Señor, aunque no de todo corazón.
3 And when he saw himself to be strengthened in his rule, he cut the throats of the servants who had killed his father, the king.	3 Cuando su poder real quedó plenamente afianzado, mató a los servidores que habían dado muerte al rey, su padre.
4 But he did not put to death their sons, just as it was written in the book of the law of Moses, where the Lord instructed, saying: “The fathers shall not be slain because of the sons, nor the sons because of their fathers. Instead, each one shall die for his own sin.”	4 Pero no hizo morir a los hijos de ellos, cumpliendo lo que está en la Ley, en el libro de Moisés, donde el Señor prescribió lo siguiente: «Los padres no morirán por las culpas de los hijos, ni los hijos por las de los padres, sino que cada uno morirá por su propio pecado».
5 And then Amaziah gathered together Judah, and he organized them by families, and tribunes, and centurions, throughout all of Judah and Benjamin. And he numbered them from twenty years old and upward. And he found three hundred thousand young men, who could go forth to battle, and who could hold spear and shield.	5 Amasías reunió a la gente de Judá y puso al frente de todo Judá y de Benjamín, agrupados por familias, jefes de mil y de cien hombres. Registró a los que tenían más de veinte años, y comprobó que había trescientos mil guerreros aptos para salir en campaña, armados de lanza y escudo.
6 Also, he hired for pay from Israel one hundred thousand experienced men, for one hundred talents of silver.	6 Luego reclutó cien mil mercenarios de Israel, por cien talentos de plata.
7 Then a man of God came to him, and he said: “O king, let not the army of Israel go forth with you. For the Lord is not with Israel, nor with all the sons of Ephraim.	7 Pero un hombre de Dios se presentó ante él y le dijo: «Que no vaya contigo, rey, un ejército de Israel, porque el Señor no está con Israel, con esos efraimitas.
8 But if you think that a war stands by the strength of the army, God will cause you to be overwhelmed by the enemies. For indeed, it belongs to God to assist, and to put to flight.”	8 Si ellos te acompañan, por más que luches valerosamente, Dios te hará caer ante el enemigo. Porque es Dios el que tiene poder para socorrer y derribar».
9 And Amaziah said to the man of God, “Then what will become of the one hundred talents, which I gave to the soldiers of Israel?” And the man of God responded to him, “The Lord has that from which he is able to give much more than this to you.”	9 Pero Amasías dijo al hombre de Dios: «¿Y qué pasa con los cien talentos de plata que entregué a la tropa de Israel?». El hombre de Dios respondió: «El Señor puede darte mucho más».
10 And so, Amaziah separated the army, which had come to him from Ephraim, so that they would return to their place. But having become very angry against Judah, they returned to their own region.	10 Entonces Amasías licenció a la tropa que había venido de Efraím, para que se fueran a su tierra. Ellos se indignaron contra Judá y volvieron enfurecidos a su tierra.
11 Then Amaziah confidently led forth his people. And he went away to the Valley of the Salt Pits, and he struck down ten thousand of the sons of Seir.	11 Amasías se sintió fuerte ya avanzó al frente de sus tropas hasta el valle de la Sal, donde mató a diez mil hombres de Seír.
12 And the sons of Judah captured another ten thousand of the men. And they led them to the precipice of a certain rock. And they threw them from the summit, and they were all broken apart.	12 Los hombres de Judá capturaron vivo a otros diez mil y los llevaron hasta la cumbre de La Roca. Desde allí los despeñaron, y todos murieron destrozados.
13 But the army that Amaziah had sent away, so that they would not go with him into battle, spread out among the cities of Judah, from Samaria as far as Beth-horon. And having killed three thousand, they took away much plunder.	13 Mientras tanto, las tropas que Amasías había despedido para que no fueran con él a la guerra, invadieron las ciudades de Judá, desde Samaría hasta Bet Jorón, y mataron a tres mil personas, recogiendo además un gran botín.
14 Truly, after the slaughter of the Edomites, and when the gods of the sons of Seir were brought, Amaziah chose them as gods for himself. And he was adoring them, and burning incense to them.	14 Después que Amasías volvió de derrotar a los edomitas, introdujo a los dioses de los habitantes de Seír y los tomó como propios, se postró delante de ellos y les quemó incienso.
15 For this reason, the Lord became angry against Amaziah, and he sent a prophet to him, who would say to him, “Why have you adored gods who did not free their own people from your hand?”	15 Entonces la ira del Señor se encendió contra Amasías y el envió un profeta para decirle: «¿Por qué has buscado a los dioses de esa gente, que no han podido salvar a su pueblo de tus manos?».
16 And after he spoke these things, he responded to him: “Are you the counselor of the king? Be quiet! Otherwise I will put you to death.” And departing, the prophet said, “I know that God has decided to kill you, because you have done this evil, and also because you have not agreed to my counsel.”	16 Mientras el profeta le estaba hablando, Amasías le replicó: «¿Quién te ha nombrado consejero del rey? ¡No insistas! ¿O quieres que te maten?». El profeta desistió, no sin antes decir: «Yo sé que Dios ha decidido destruirte, por haber hecho esto y no haber escuchado mi consejo».
17 And so Amaziah, the king of Judah, undertaking a very wicked counsel, sent to Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, the king of Israel, saying: “Come, let us see one another.”	17 Después de hacerse aconsejar, Amasías, rey de Judá, envió mensajeros a Joás, hijo de Joacaz, hijo de Jehú, rey de Israel, para decirle: «¡Ven a enfrentarte conmigo cara a cara!».
18 But he sent back messengers, saying: “The thistle which is in Lebanon sent to the cedar of Lebanon, saying: ‘Give your daughter to my son as wife.’ And behold, the beasts that were in the forest of Lebanon passed through, and they trampled the thistle.	18 Pero Joás, rey de Israel, mandó a decir a Amasías, rey de Judá: «El cardo del Líbano mandó a decir al cedro del Líbano: Dale tu hija por esposa a mi hijo. Pero un animal salvaje del Líbano pasó y pisoteó el cardo.
19 You said, ‘I struck down Edom.’ And for this reason, your heart is lifted up with pride. Settle in your own house. Why do you provoke evil against yourself, so that you may fall, and then Judah with you?”	19 Tú dices: «He derrotado a Edom», y por eso tu corazón se ha engreído y se gloría. ¡Quédate ahora en tu casa! ¿Para qué comprometerte en una guerra desastrosas y sucumbir, tú y Judá contigo?».
20 Amaziah was not willing to listen to him, because it was the will of the Lord that he be delivered into the hands of the enemies, because of the gods of Edom.	20 Amasías no hizo caso, porque Dios así lo había dispuesto, para entregarlo en manos de Joás por haber venerado a los dioses de Edom.
21 And so Joash, the king of Israel, ascended, and they presented themselves within the sight of one another. Now Amaziah, the king of Judah, was in Beth-shemesh of Judah.	21 Entonces subió Joás, rey de Israel, y se enfrentaron él y Amasías, rey de Judá, en Bet Semes de Judá.
22 And Judah fell before Israel. And each one fled to his own tent.	22 Judá cayó derrotado ante Israel, y cada uno huyó a su carpa.
23 Then Joash, the king of Israel, captured Amaziah, the king of Judah, the son of Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, at Beth-shemesh, and he led him to Jerusalem. And he destroyed its walls, from the gate of Ephraim as far as the gate of the corner, four hundred cubits.	23 Joás, rey de Israel, tomó prisionero en Bet Semes a Amasías, hijo de Joás, hijo de Ocozías, rey de Judá. Lo llevó a Jerusalén y abrió una brecha de doscientos metros en el muro de Jerusalén, desde la puerta de Efraím hasta la puerta del Angulo.
24 Also, he brought back to Samaria all the gold and silver, and all the vessels, which he had found in the house of God, and with Obededom in the treasuries of the king’s house, as well as sons for hostages.	24 Se apoderó de todo el oro y la plata y de todos los objetos que se hallaban en la Casa de Dios, al cuidado de Obededom; se llevó los tesoros de la casa del rey y algunos rehenes, y se volvió a Samaría.
25 Then Amaziah, the son of Joash, the king of Judah, lived for fifteen years after the death of Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, the king of Israel.	25 Amasías, hijo de Joás, rey de Judá, vivió quince años después de la muerte de Joás, hijo de Joacaz, rey de Israel.
26 Now the rest of the words of Amaziah, the first and the last, have been written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.	26 El resto de los hechos de Amasías, desde el comienzo hasta el fin, ¿no está escrito en el Libro de los reyes de Judá y de Israel?
27 And after he withdrew from the Lord, they set up an ambush against him in Jerusalem. But since he had fled into Lachish, they sent and killed him in that place.	27 A partir del momento en que Amasías dejó de seguir al Señor, se urdió una conspiración contra él en Jerusalén. El huyó a Laquis, pero lo hicieron perseguir hasta Laquis y allí le dieron muerte.
28 And having carried him back upon horses, they buried him with his fathers in the City of David.	28 Después lo trasladaron sobre unos caballos, y fue sepultado con sus padres en la Ciudad de David.
