1 And when king Hezekiah had heard this, he tore his garments, and he covered himself with sackcloth, and he entered the house of the Lord.	1 Cuando el rey Ezequías oyó esto, rasgó sus vestiduras, se cubrió con un sayal y fue a la Casa del Señor.
2 And he sent Eliakim, the first ruler of the house, and Shebnah, the scribe, and the elders from the priests, covered with sackcloth, to the prophet Isaiah, the son of Amoz.	2 Además, envió al mayordomo de palacio Eliaquim, al secretario Sebná y a los sacerdotes más ancianos, todos cubiertos de sayales, para decir al profeta Isaías, hijo de Amós:
3 And they said to him: “Thus says Hezekiah: This day is a day of tribulation, and of rebuke, and of blasphemy. The sons are ready to be born, but the woman in labor does not have the strength.	3 «Así habla Ezequías: Hoy es un día de angustia, de castigo y de oprobio, porque los hijos están a punto de nacer, pero no hay fuerza para darlos a luz.
4 Perhaps the Lord, your God, may hear all the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of the Assyrians, his lord, sent so that he would reproach the living God, and rebuke with words, which the Lord, your God, has heard. And so, offer a prayer on behalf of the remnant that has been found.”	4 Tal vez el Señor, tu Dios, escuche las palabras del copero mayor, a quien el rey de Asiria, su señor, envió para insultar al Dios viviente, y el Señor tu Dios, lo castigue por las palabras que ha escuchado. Eleva entonces una plegaria por el resto que todavía subsiste».
5 And the servants of king Hezekiah went to Isaiah.	5 Los servidores del rey Ezequías fueron a ver a Isaías,
6 And Isaiah said to them: “So shall you say to your lord. Thus says the Lord: Do not be afraid before the face of the words that you have heard, by which the servants of the king of the Assyrians have blasphemed me.	6 y este les dijo: «Díganle a su señor: Así habla el Señor: No temas por las palabras que has oído, y con las que me ultrajaron los lacayos del rey de Asiria.
7 Behold, I will send a spirit to him, and he will hear a report, and he will return to his own land. And I will bring him down by the sword in his own land.”	7 Yo mismo pondré un espíritu en él y, apenas oiga una noticia, regresará a su país; y yo lo haré caer bajo la espada en su propio país».
8 Then Rabshakeh returned, and he found the king of the Assyrians fighting against Libnah. For he had heard that he had withdrawn from Lachish.	8 El copero mayor regresó y se encontró con el rey de Asiria, que estaba atacando a Libná.
9 And when he had heard from Tirhakah, the king of Ethiopia, saying, “Behold, he has gone out so that he may fight against you,” and when he went forth against him, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying:	9 El había oído, en efecto, que el rey se había retirado de Laquis, al recibir la noticia de que Tirjacá, rey de Cus, se había puesto en campaña para combatirlo.
10 “So shall you say to Hezekiah, the king of Judah: Let not your God, in whom you trust, lead you astray. And you should not say, ‘Jerusalem will not be delivered into the hands of the king of the Assyrians.’	10 «Hablen así a Ezequías, rey de Judá: Que no te engañe tu Dios, en quien confías, haciéndote pensar que Jerusalén no será entregada en manos del rey de Asiria.
11 For you yourself have heard what the kings of the Assyrians have done to all the lands, the manner in which they have laid waste to them. Therefore, how would you alone be able to be freed?	11 Tú has oído, seguramente, lo que hicieron los reyes de Asiria a todos los países, al consagrarlos al exterminio total. ¿Y tú te vas a librar?
12 Have the gods of the nations freed any of those whom my fathers have destroyed, such as Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the sons of Eden, who were at Telassar?	12 ¿Libraron acaso sus dioses a esas naciones que mis padres han destruido, a Gozán, Jarán, Résef y a la gente de Edén que está en Telasar?
13 Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, and of Hena, and of Avva?”	13 ¿Dónde están el rey de Jamat, el rey de Arpad, el rey de la ciudad de Sefarvaim, el de Hená y el de Ivá?
14 And so, when Hezekiah had received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and had read it, he ascended to the house of the Lord, and he spread it out before the Lord.	14 Ezequías tomó la carta de la mano de los mensajeros y la leyó. Después subió a la Casa del Señor, la desplegó delante del Señor
15 And he prayed in his sight, saying: “O Lord, God of Israel, who sits upon the cherubim, you alone are God, over all the kings of the earth. You made heaven and earth.	15 y oró, diciendo: «Señor de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel, que tienes tu trono sobre los querubines: tú solo eres el Dios de todos los reinos de la tierra, tú has hecho el cielo y la tierra.
16 Incline your ear, and listen. Open your eyes, O Lord, and see. And hear all the words of Sennacherib, who sent so that he might reproach the living God before us.	16 Inclina tu oído, Señor, y escucha; abre tus ojos, Señor, y mira. Escucha las palabras que Senaquerib ha mandado decir, para insultar al Dios viviente.
17 Truly, O Lord, the kings of the Assyrians have devastated all peoples and lands.	17 Es verdad, Señor, que los reyes de Asiria han arrasado todas las naciones y sus territorios.
18 And they have cast their gods into the fire. For they were not gods, but instead were the works of men’s hands, out of wood and stone. And so they destroyed them.	18 Ellos han arrojado sus dioses al fuego, porque no son dioses, sino obra de las manos del hombre, nada más que madera y piedra. Por eso los hicieron desaparecer.
19 Now therefore, O Lord our God, bring us salvation from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you alone are the Lord God.”	19 Pero ahora, Señor, Dios nuestro, ¡sálvanos de su mano, y que todos los reinos de la tierra reconozcan que tú solo, Señor, eres Dios!».
20 Then Isaiah, the son of Amoz, sent to Hezekiah, saying: “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: I have heard what you beseeched from me, concerning Sennacherib, the king of the Assyrians.	20 Isaías, hijo de Amós, mandó a decir a Ezequías: «Así habla el Señor, Dios de Israel: Tú me has dirigido una súplica acerca de Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, y yo la he escuchado.
21 This is the word that the Lord has spoken about him: The virgin daughter of Zion has spurned and ridiculed you. The daughter of Jerusalem has shaken her head behind your back.	21 Esta es la palabra que el Señor ha pronunciado contra él: Te desprecia, se burla de ti, la virgen hija de Sión; a tus espaldas mueve la cabeza la hija de Jerusalén.
22 Whom have you reproached, and whom have you blasphemed? Against whom have you exalted your voice, and lifted up your eyes on high? Against the Holy One of Israel!	22 ¿A quién has insultado y ultrajado? ¿Contra quién has alzado la voz y levantado bien alto tus ojos? ¡Contra el Santo de Israel!
23 By the hand of your servants, you have reproach the Lord, and you have said: ‘By the multitude of my chariots I have ascended to the heights of the mountains, to the summit of Lebanon. And I have cut down its sublime cedars, and its elect spruce trees. And I have entered even to its limits. And its forest of Carmel,	23 Por medio de tus mensajeros han insultado al Señor, y has dicho: «Con mis numerosos carros escalé la cima de las montañas, los rincones inaccesibles del Líbano. Talé sus cedros más altos, sus mejores cipreses; llegué hasta su último extremo, hasta lo más espeso de su bosque.
24 I have cut down. And I drank foreign waters, and I dried up all the enclosed waters with the steps of my feet.’	24 Excavé pozos y bebí aguas extranjeras; sequé con la planta de mis pies todos los canales de Egipto».
25 But have you not heard what I have done from the beginning? From the days of antiquity, I have formed it, and now I have brought it to be. And fortified cities of fighting men will become piles of ruins.	25 ¿No lo has oído? Hace mucho tiempo que lo he preparado: lo he planeado desde los tiempos antiguos y ahora lo llevo a cabo. Así, tú has reducido a un montón de ruinas las ciudades fortificadas.
26 And whoever may settle in these, they have trembled, with a weak hand, and they have been confounded. They have become like the hay of the field, and like weeds sprouting on the rooftops, which dry up before they reached maturity.	26 Sus habitantes, con las manos caídas, están aterrorizados, avergonzados: son como el pasto de los campos y la gramilla verde, como la hierba de los techos, o el grano agostado antes de madurar.
27 Your habitation, and your exit, and your entrance, and your way, I knew beforehand, along with your fury against me.	27 Pero yo sé cuándo te sientas, cuándo sales y cuándo entras, y cuándo tiemblas de rabia contra mí.
28 You have been maddened against me, and your arrogance has ascended to my ears. And so, I will place a ring in your nose, and a bit between your lips. And I will lead you back along the way by which you came.	28 Porque has temblado de rabia contra mí, y tu insolencia ha subido a mis oídos, pondré mi garfio en tus narices y mi bozal en tus labios, y te haré volver por el camino por donde habías venido.
29 But as for you, Hezekiah, this shall be a sign: Eat this year whatever you will find, and in the second year, whatever may spring up of itself. But in the third year, sow and reap; plant vineyards, and eat from their fruit.	29 Y esto te servirá de señal: Este año se comerá del grano caído, y el año próximo, de lo que brote espontáneamente; pero al tercer año, siembren y cosechen, planten viñas y coman de sus frutos.
30 And whatever will have been left behind, from the house of Judah, shall send a root downward, and shall bear fruit upward.	30 Los sobrevivientes de la casa de Judá, los que todavía queden, echarán de nuevo raíces por debajo, y producirán frutos por arriba.
31 Indeed, a remnant shall go forth from Jerusalem, and what may be saved shall go forth from mount Zion. The zeal of the Lord of hosts shall accomplish this.	31 Porque de Jerusalén saldrá un resto, y del monte Sión, algunos sobrevivientes. El celo del Señor de los ejércitos hará todo eso.
32 For this reason, thus says the Lord about the king of the Assyrians: He shall not enter into this city, nor shoot an arrow into it, nor overtake it with the shield, nor encircle it with fortifications.	32 Por eso, así habla el Señor acerca del rey de Asiria: El no entrará en esta ciudad, ni se lanzará una flecha; no la enfrentará con el escudo, ni se levantará contra ella un terraplén.
33 By the way that he came, so shall he return. And he shall not enter this city, says the Lord.	33 Se volverá por el mismo camino, sin entrar en esta ciudad –oráculo del Señor –
34 And I will protect this city, and I will save it for my own sake, and for the sake of my servant David.”	34 Yo protegeré a esta ciudad para salvarla, por mi honor y el de David, mi servidor».
35 And so it happened that, in the same night, an Angel of the Lord went and struck down, in the camp of the Assyrians, one hundred and eighty-five thousand. And when he had risen up, at first light, he saw all the bodies of the dead. And withdrawing, he went away.	35 Aquella misma noche, el Angel del Señor salió e hirió en el campamento de los asirios a ciento ochenta y cinco mil hombres. Y cuando los demás se levantaron por la mañana, vieron que todos eran cadáveres, que estaban muertos.
36 And Sennacherib, the king of the Assyrians, returned and dwelled in Nineveh.	36 Entonces Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, levantó el campamento, emprendió el regreso y se quedó en Nínive.
37 And while he was worshipping in the temple of his god, Nisroch, his sons, Adram-melech and Sharezer, struck him with the sword. And they fled into the land of the Armenians. And Esarhaddon, his son, reigned in his place.	37 Un día, mientras estaba postrado en el templo de Nisroc, su dios, Adramélec y Sarecer, sus hijos, lo mataron con la espada, y se pusieron a salvo en el país de Aratat. Asarhadón, su hijo, reinó en lugar de él.
