Then, in the eighteenth year of the reign of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, Abijam reigned over Judah.1 El año dieciocho del rey Jeroboam, hijo de Nebat, comenzó a reinar Abiyyam sobre Judá.
He reigned for three years in Jerusalem. The name of his mother was Maacah, the daughter of Abishalom.2 Reinó tres años en Jerusalén; el nombres de su madre era Maaká, hija de Absalón.
And he walked in all the sins of his father, which he had done before him. Neither was his heart perfect with the Lord his God, as was the heart of David, his father.3 Siguió en todo los pecados que su padre había hecho antes de él, y su corazón no fue por entero de Yahveh su Dios, como el corazón de David su padre.
But for the sake of David, the Lord his God gave to him a lamp in Jerusalem, so that he might raise up his son after him, and so that he might establish Jerusalem.4 Pero en atención a David, le dio Yahveh su Dios una lámpara en Jerusalén, suscitando a su hijo después de él y manteniendo en pie a Jerusalén,
For David had done what was right in the eyes of the Lord, and he had not declined from all of the things that he had instructed to him, during all the days of his life, except the matter of Uriah, the Hittite.5 porque David había hecho lo que era recto a los ojos de Yahveh y no se había apartado de cuanto le ordenó en todos los días de su vida, salvo en el caso de Urías el hitita.
Now there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam during the entire time of his life.6 . .
And the rest of the words of Abijam, and all that he did, were these not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Judah? And there was fighting between Abijam and Jeroboam.7 El resto de los hechos de Abiyyam, todo cuanto hizo, ¿no está escrito en el libro de los Anales de los reyes de Judá? Hubo guerra entre Abiyyam y Jeroboam.
And Abijam slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David. And Asa, his son, reigned in his place.8 Se acostó Abiyyam con sus padres y le sepultaron en la ciudad de David. Reinó en su lugar su hijo Asá.
Then, in the twentieth year of Jeroboam, the king of Israel, Asa reigned as king of Judah.9 El año veinte de Jeroboam, rey de Israel, commenzó a reinar Asá en Judá.
And he reigned for forty-one years in Jerusalem. The name of his mother was Maacah, the daughter of Abishalom.10 Reinó 41 años en Jerusalén; su abuela se llamaba Maaká, hija de Absalón.
And Asa did what was right before the sight of the Lord, just as his father David did.11 Asá hizo lo recto a los ojos de Yahveh, como David su padre.
And he took away the effeminate from the land. And he purged all the filth of the idols, which his fathers had made.12 Expulsó de la tierra a los consagrados a la prostitución, y quitó todos los ídolos que sus padres habían hecho.
Moreover, he also removed his mother, Maacah, from being the leader in the sacrifices of Priapus, and in his sacred grove which she had consecrated. And he destroyed his grotto. And he shattered the very indecent idol, and he burned it at the torrent Kidron.13 Incluso llegó a quitar a su abuela Maaká el título de Gran Dama porque había hecho un Horror para Aserá. Asá abatió este Horror y lo quemó en el torrente Cedrón.
But the high places, he did not take away. Yet truly, the heart of Asa was perfect with the Lord during all his days.14 Pero no desaparecieron los altos, aunque el corazón de Asá estuvo del todo con Yahveh toda su vida.
And he brought the things that his father had sanctified and vowed back to the house of the Lord: the silver, and the gold, and the vessels.15 Llevó a la Casa de Yahveh las ofrendas consagradas por su padre y sus propias ofrendas, plata, oro y utensilios.
Now there was war between Asa and Baasha, the king of Israel, during all their days.16 Hubo guerra entre Asá y Basá, rey de Israel, toda su vida.
And Baasha, the king of Israel, ascended against Judah. And he built up Ramah, so that no one would be able to exit or enter from the side of Asa, the king of Judah.17 Basá, rey de Israel, subió contra Judá y fortificó Ramá, para cortar las communicaciones a Asá, rey de Judá.
And so, Asa took all the silver and the gold which had remained in the treasuries of the house of the Lord, and in the treasuries of the house of the king, and he gave it into the hands of his servants. And he sent them to Benhadad, the son of Tabrimmon, the son of Hezion, the king of Syria, who was living in Damascus, saying:18 Sacó entonces Asá toda la plata y el oro que quedaban en los tesoros de la Casa de Yahveh y en los tesoros de la casa del rey, se lo dio a sus servidores y los envió a Ben Hadad, hijo de Tabrimmón, hijo de Jezyón, rey de Aram, que habitaba en Damasco, diciendo:
“There is a pact between me and you, and between my father and your father. For this reason, I have sent to you gifts of silver and of gold. And I ask you to go and break your pact with Baasha, the king of Israel, so that he may withdraw from me.”19 «Haya alianza entre nosotros como entre mi padre y tu padre. Te envío un presente de plata y oro. Anda, rompe tu alianza con Basá, rey de Israel, para que se aleje de mí».
Benhadad, acquiescing to king Asa, sent the leaders of his army against the cities of Israel. And they struck Ijon, and Dan, and Abel, the house of Maacah, and all of Chinneroth, that is, all the land of Naphtali.20 Ben Hadad escuchó al rey Asá y envió a los jefes de su ejército contra las ciudades de Israel, conquistando Iyyón, Dan y Abel Bet Maaká, todo el Kinerot y todo el país de Neftalí.
And when Baasha had heard this, he ceased from fortifying Ramah, and he returned to Tirzah.21 Cuando Basá lo supo suspendió las fortificaciones de Ramá y se volvió a Tirsá.
Then king Asa sent an announcement to all of Judah, saying, “Let no one be excused.” And they took away the stones from Ramah, and its timber, with which Baasha had fortified it. And from these things, king Asa built up Geba of Benjamin and Mizpah.22 El rey Asá convocó a todo Judá sin excepción. Se llevaron la piedra y la madera con que Basá fortificaba Ramá, y el rey Asá fortificó con ellas Gueba de Benjamín y Mispá.
Now all the rest of the words of Asa, and his entire strength, and all that he did, and the cities that he built, were these not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Judah?
And he slept with his fathers, and he was buried with them in the city of David, his father. And Jehoshaphat, his son, reigned in his place.24 Asá se acostó con sus padres y fue sepultado con sus padres en la ciudad de su padre David. Reinó después de él su hijo Josafat.
Yet truly, Nadab, the son of Jeroboam, reigned over Israel, in the second year of Asa, the king of Judah. And he reigned over Israel for two years.25 Nadab, hijo de Jeroboam, comenzó a reinar en Israel el año segundo de Asá, rey de Judá, y reinó dos años sobre Israel.
And he did what is evil in the sight of the Lord. And he walked in the ways of his father and in his sins, by which he caused Israel to sin.26 Hizo el mal a los ojos de Yahveh, y anduvo por el camino de su padre y en el pecado con que hizo pecar a Israel.
Then Baasha, the son of Ahijah, from the house of Issachar, set an ambush against him, and he struck him down at Gibbethon, which is a city of the Philistines. For indeed, Nadab and all of Israel were laying siege to Gibbethon.27 Basá, hijo de Ajías, de la casa de Isacar, conspiró contra él y le mató en Guibbetón de los filisteos, cuando Nadab y todo Israel estaban asediando a Guibbetón.
And so Baasha killed him in the third year of Asa, the king of Judah, and he reigned in his place.28 Basá le hizo morir el año tercero de Asá, rey de Judá, y reinó en su lugar.
And when he had reigned, he struck down the entire house of Jeroboam. He did not leave behind even one soul from his offspring, until he had wiped him away, in accord with the word of the Lord, which he had spoken by the hand of Ahijah, the Shilonite,29 Cuando se hizo rey, mató a toda la casa de Jeroboam, no dejó a nadie de los de Jeroboam con vida, hasta exterminarlos según la palabra que Yahveh había dicho por boca de su siervo el profeta Ajías de Silo,
because of the sin of Jeroboam, which he had committed, and by which he had caused Israel to sin, and because of the offense by which he had provoked the Lord, the God of Israel.30 por los pecados que Jeroboam cometió e hizo cometer a Israel y con los que provocó la irritación de Yahveh, Dios de Israel.
But the rest of the words of Nadab, and all that he did, were these not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?31 El resto de los hechos de Nadab y todo cuanto hizo, ¿no está escrito en el libro de los Anales de los reyes de Israel?
And there was war between Asa and Baasha, the king of Israel, during all their days.32 . .
In the third year of Asa, the king of Judah, Baasha, the son of Ahijah, reigned over all of Israel, at Tirzah, for twenty-four years.33 El año tercero de Asá, rey de Judá, comenzó a reinar Basá, hijo de Ajías, sobre todo Israel en Tirsá; reinó veinticuatro años.
And he did evil in the sight of the Lord. And he walked in the ways of Jeroboam, and in his sins, by which he caused Israel to sin.34 Hizo el mal a los ojos de Yahveh y fue por el camino de Jeroboam y por el pecado con que hizo pecar a Israel.
