1 Now it happened that, after Saul died, David returned from the slaughter of Amalek, and he remained for two days at Ziklag.	1 Als David nach dem Tod Sauls von seinem Sieg über die Amalekiter zurückgekehrt war und sich zwei Tage lang in Ziklag aufgehalten hatte,
2 Then, on the third day, a man appeared, arriving from the camp of Saul, with his garments torn and dust sprinkled on his head. And when he came to David, he fell on his face, and he reverenced.	2 kam am dritten Tag ein Mann aus dem Lager Sauls, mit zerrissenen Kleidern und Staub auf dem Haupt. Als er bei David angelangt war, warf er sich (vor ihm) auf den Boden nieder und huldigte ihm.
3 And David said to him, “Where have you come from?” And he said to him, “I have fled from the camp of Israel.”	3 David fragte ihn: Woher kommst du? Er antwortete ihm: Ich habe mich aus dem Lager Israels gerettet.
4 And David said to him: “What is the word that has happened? Reveal it to me.” And he said: “The people have fled from the battle, and many of the people have fallen and died. Moreover, Saul and his son Jonathan have passed away.”	4 David sagte zu ihm: Wie stehen die Dinge? Berichte mir! Er erwiderte: Das Volk ist aus dem Kampf geflohen, viele von den Männern sind gefallen und umgekommen; auch Saul und sein Sohn Jonatan sind tot.
5 And David said to the youth who was reporting to him, “How do you know that Saul and his son Jonathan have died?”	5 David fragte den jungen Mann, der ihm die Nachricht brachte: Woher weißt du, dass Saul und sein Sohn Jonatan tot sind?
6 And the youth, who was reporting it to him, said: “I arrived by chance on mount Gilboa. And Saul was lying upon his spear. Then the chariots and horsemen drew near to him.	6 Der junge Mann, der ihm die Nachricht brachte, sagte: Ich kam zufällig auf das Gebirge von Gilboa; da sah ich, wie sich Saul auf seinen Speer stützte und Kriegswagen und Reiter auf ihn eindrangen.
7 And turning behind his back and seeing me, he called to me. And when I had responded, “I am here,”	7 Er wandte sich um, und als er mich sah, rief er mich. Ich antwortete: Hier bin ich.
8 he said to me, “Who are you?” And I said to him, “I am an Amalekite.”	8 Er fragte mich: Wer bist du? Ich gab ihm zur Antwort: Ich bin ein Amalekiter.
9 And he said to me: “Stand over me, and kill me. For anguish has taken hold of me, and still my whole life is in me.”	9 Da sagte er zu mir: Komm her zu mir und töte mich! Denn mich hat ein Schwächeanfall erfasst, aber noch ist alles Leben in mir.
10 And standing over him, I killed him. For I knew that he was not able to live after the fall. And I took the diadem that was on his head, and the bracelet from his arm, and I have brought them here to you, my lord.”	10 Ich ging also zu ihm hin und tötete ihn; denn ich wusste, dass er seine Niederlage nicht überleben würde. Dann nahm ich den Stirnreif, den er auf dem Kopf trug, und die Spange, die er am Arm hatte, und bringe sie nun hierher zu meinem Herrn.
11 Then David, taking hold of his garments, tore them, with all the men who were with him.	11 Da fasste David sein Gewand und zerriss es und ebenso (machten es) alle Männer, die bei ihm waren.
12 And they mourned, and wept, and fasted until evening, over Saul and over his son Jonathan, and over the people of the Lord and over the house of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword.	12 Sie klagten, weinten und fasteten bis zum Abend wegen Saul, seines Sohnes Jonatan, des Volkes des Herrn und des Hauses Israel, die unter dem Schwert gefallen waren.
13 And David said to the youth who had reported it to him, “Where are you from?” And he responded, “I am the son of a man who is a new arrival from the Amalekites.”	13 Und David fragte den jungen Mann, der ihm die Nachricht gebracht hatte: Woher bist du? Er antwortete: Ich bin der Sohn eines Einwanderers aus Amalek.
14 And David said to him, “Why were you not afraid to put forth your hand, so that you would kill the Christ of the Lord?”	14 David fragte ihn: Wie kommt es, dass du dich nicht davor gefürchtet hast, deine Hand auszustrecken, um den Gesalbten des Herrn umzubringen?
15 And calling one of his servants, David said, “Draw near and rush against him” And he struck him, and he died.	15 Darauf rief David einen von seinen jungen Männern zu sich und sagte: Komm her, stoß ihn nieder! Und er schlug ihn tot.
16 And David said to him: “Your blood is upon your own head. For your own mouth has spoken against you, saying: ‘I have killed the Christ of the Lord.’ ”	16 David aber sagte zu ihm: Dein Blut über dein Haupt; denn dein Mund hat dich verurteilt, als du sagtest: Ich habe den Gesalbten des Herrn getötet.
17 Then David mourned a lamentation over Saul and over his son Jonathan, in this way.	17 Und David sang die folgende Totenklage auf Saul und seinen Sohn Jonatan;
18 (And he instructed that they should teach the sons of Judah the bow, just as it is written in the Book of the Just.) And he said: “Consider, O Israel, on behalf of those who are dead, wounded upon your heights:	18 er sagte, man solle es die Söhne Judas als Bogenlied lehren; es steht im «Buch des Aufrechten»:
19 The illustrious of Israel have been killed upon your mountains. How could the valiant have fallen?	19 Israel, dein Stolz liegt erschlagen auf deinen Höhen. Ach, die Helden sind gefallen!
20 Do not choose to announce it in Gath, and do not announce it in the crossroads of Ashkelon. Otherwise, the daughters of the Philistines may rejoice; otherwise, the daughters of the uncircumcised may exult.	20 Meldet es nicht in Gat, verkündet es nicht auf Aschkelons Straßen, damit die Töchter der Philister sich nicht freuen, damit die Töchter der Unbeschnittenen nicht jauchzen.
21 O mountains of Gilboa, let neither dew, nor rain fall over you, and may these not be the fields of the first-fruits. For in that place, the shield of the valiant was cast away, the shield of Saul, as if he had not been anointed with oil.	21 Ihr Berge in Gilboa, kein Tau und kein Regen falle auf euch, ihr trügerischen Gefilde. Denn dort wurde der Schild der Helden befleckt, der Schild des Saul, als wäre er nicht mit Öl gesalbt.
22 From the blood of the slain, from the fat of the strong, the arrow of Jonathan never turned back, and the sword of Saul did not return empty.	22 Ohne das Blut von Erschlagenen, ohne das Mark der Helden kam der Bogen Jonatans nie zurück; auch das Schwert Sauls kehrte niemals erfolglos zurück.
23 Saul and Jonathan, worthy to be loved, and stately in their life: even in death they were not divided. They were swifter than eagles, stronger than lions.	23 Saul und Jonatan, die Geliebten und Teuren, im Leben und Tod sind sie nicht getrennt. Sie waren schneller als Adler, waren stärker als Löwen.
24 O daughters of Israel, weep over Saul, who clothed you with scarlet finery, who offered ornaments of gold for your adornment.	24 Ihr Töchter Israels, um Saul müsst ihr weinen; er hat euch in köstlichen Purpur gekleidet, hat goldenen Schmuck auf eure Gewänder geheftet.
25 How could the valiant have fallen in battle? How could Jonathan have been slain on the heights?	25 Ach, die Helden sind gefallen mitten im Kampf. Jonatan liegt erschlagen auf deinen Höhen.
26 I grieve over you, my brother Jonathan: exceedingly stately, and worthy to be loved above the love of women. As a mother loves her only son, so also did I love you.	26 Weh ist mir um dich, mein Bruder Jonatan. Du warst mir sehr lieb. Wunderbarer war deine Liebe für mich als die Liebe der Frauen.
27 How could the robust have fallen, and the weapons of war have perished?”	27 Ach, die Helden sind gefallen, die Waffen des Kampfes verloren.
